History

Established in 1981.

Gallery Furniture was founded first at its original location at 6006 I-45 North between Tidwell and Parker. The expansion store at 2411 Post Oak Boulevard was originally slated for the fourth quarter of 2008, but due to Hurricane Ike got pushed to the first quarter of 2009.

The new Gallery Furniture Post Oak Location had its grand opening debut the weekend of March 13, 2009 and debuted the majority of its store — approximately 15,000 square feet — which was designed by world renowned interior designer Bill Stubbs of Houston (an Architectural Digest Top 100 Interior Designers) as well as by Gallery Furniture’s own interior designer Michael Burns. Together, they have created a truly aspirational home for lines such as Kreiss, Drexel Heritage, solid mango wood from Home Trends & Design, custom home theater leather from United Leather USA of Dallas, and other upsclae collections.

The store is slated to expand another 7,500 square feet with new vignettes soon.

Meet the Business Owner

Jim M.

Business Owner

Jim «Mattress Mack» McIngvale has always believed in God, country, family and hard work. A tireless powerhouse, Mack is usually found standing at the front desk of the original Gallery Furniture store on North Freeway, greeting every customer and overseeing the sales activities of the store, seven days a week. He never stops moving, and his energy is infectious to all who come in contact with this Houston icon.

With only $ 5,000 and a dream to build the world’s biggest furniture store, Mack opened Gallery Furniture under tents on the side of the freeway over 30 years ago. He has never stopped charging forward and upward. TODAY, his dream is a multi-million dollar enterprise employing over 400 American workers.
