Sure, I’d had Honey Baked Hams for years. Back in the Boom Days, my boss, who came from a Dallas family not unlike the Ewings, would gift all their customers a giant Honey Baked Ham for Christmas. I’ve even served this at my own holiday table. Just warm and serve. Years later, I hear HBH sells just the hambone. What sorcery is this, you might ask? Being a lover of most any bean soup, I had to check it out. I telephoned(I’m showing my age here) HBH and asked them about ham bones. Yes! They carry ham bones, with varying degrees of meat left on them. I said I’d be in that afternoon, I didn’t want to get there and have the store run out of them. I needn’t have bothered my head about that. There is a small freezer towards the front of the store half full of them. They are $ 2.99/lb. You can get a shank bone or a butt. This was all news to me that there were two kinds of ham bones. The clerk was very helpful in his explanations. The shank is thinner, and the meat on it is longer in width;, the butt is wider, the meat is rounder. Where do these bones come from you might wonder? HBH sells ham sandwiches for lunch and dinner, and they cater lunches too. The bones are what’s left over. Pity to toss a perfectly good bone! Everything you wanted to know about ham bones but were afraid to ask. I picked my hambone with plenty of meat on it, and last night I’ve already soaked my navy beans. I’m way ahead of the game, I have my celery and onion chopped too, and it’s only 7 a.m. Do yourself a favor if you like country cooking at home, and get a ham bone at Honey Baked Hams. It makes the best soup! Now, where’s that cornbread recipe???

Excelent spiral cut ham. This year — 2015 — an eight pound bone in half ham will cost you $ 65.50 — we used a $ 7.00 off coupon online. Minimal line — Tuesday before Thanksgiving at 5 pm — about a 20 customer line and was in and out in ten minutes! Service was quick and friendly — as always.

My sandwich was sooooooooo good and I don’t even like ham that much! The store was clean, not crowded, and the staff was very nice. I ordered the Tavern Club on Croissant. It was fresh, and piled with thick cuts of ham and turkey and a couple of strips of bacon. It was delicious! I will definitely return soon!

I was debating whether to go with Logan Farm or The Honey-baked Ham Company for Thanksgiving and the latter won out. We have had a ham from here before and have never been disappointed and this was no different. Reserving one for this particular holiday was easy peasy — I called this particular location and the person who answered the call went over the different sizes and pricing and reserving one was really easy. She told me when I come in to pick up my turkey to tell them my reservation number. The day before turkey day I stood in line to pick up my ham, and the line moved quickly and systematically. There were five clerks ringing people up and the checkout process only took a few minutes. Come Thanksgiving Day I laid everything out and after everyone started packing on their plates I forgot to take out the ham! No worries — I placed it in the oven for about 15 minutes(not the presribed, instructed time) and although the sugar had not melted, each slice was perfectly scrumptious! The leftovers are what I enjoy most about Thanksgiving and six ham sandwiches later, my belly is happy!
