History
Established in 1950.
On November 6, 1950, student volunteers signed KUHF on the air, broadcasting at 9,600 watts from the Ezekiel Cullen Building at the University of Houston. 60 years later, KUHF remains on campus, broadcasting at 100,000 watts from the LeRoy and Lucille Melcher Center for Public Broadcasting. It’s been an exciting and an historic adventure. KUHF has become a fully professional broadcast operation that includes three unique digital program streams and our programming now reaches around the globe through the internet. One thing that hasn’t changed during our first 60 years is our core mission. KUHF exists to serve its community and represent the license holder, the University of Houston. The story of KUHF is an important one that is defined by change and adapting to new possibilities, commitment to broadcast excellence and hard work done by dedicated people. As we celebrate this historic milepost, we anticipate the future which is rich with opportunity.

As Station Manager, Debra Fraser oversees the combined cultural programming and news departments, as well as the station’s public information and online initiatives. She has been with KUHF for 18 years.
Debra joined KUHF in 1988 as a reporter and and went on to serve as News Director for 12 years, helping the news department grow into «Houston’s intelligent news choice.» She is a true believer in the station’s mission to serve the community and is committed to expanding and enhancing local programming.
She is a graduate of the University of Texas at Austin where she received her B.S. in Radio, Television and Film.
