Hyatt Regency Houston

I am attending large state run conference here today. Lots of commuters. No self parking in the hotel parking lot. Took an extra 30 minutes to find parking. Lots of empty contract only spaces in hotel garage. Others coming need to be aware of this potential problem. Did not stay in room.

Amazing service. Amazing bar. Amazing staff. Clean rooms with great views. The steak restaurant is fantastic. The food at the bar is fantastic.
We had an amazing unforgettable time here.
Compare to the 1 star review I gave the new Galleria Hyatt.
I will be back here.

Good first: Great service, very friendly staff, great location and cool elevators.
Where they could have done better: surfaces in the room were so dusty I could write my name on them. There was old food and a used glass in the refrigerator (moldy), it was not cleaned after the previous guest’s stay. Carpet was extensively stained and worn down. Drilling in the room above us at 8am. Will write to the company. This is not what I expected from this brand.

I stayed here recently, and it has been renovated since my last stay… a renovation that was much needed. Very clean, relatively quiet. The Shula’s on site provides reliable if overpriced grub. The Einstein’s on site works for a cheap breakfast. The bar can get to be pretty crowded in the evenings, but that’s ok, you can always find room. The self parking at $ 20 a night is a little steep, but beats the valet charge. The glass elevators are something straight out of a 1970’s James Bond movie.

Spent two nights here as I was in town to watch the Jets lose to the Texans.

The fitness center has about a dozen machines.
A Shula’s Steakhouse and an Einstein Bagel shop are on the premises.
No complaints.

Honestly hotel rooms and generally everything is great the only problem they have is there valet service it cost $ 34 and you have to wait 10 minutes to get your car. My room cost me $ 80 and my valet service cost me $ 34.

I’ve stayed here a few times because some weekends I know I’m going to party it hard and I will not be able to drive home. So what’s my solution? Go to Priceline and try get the Hyatt Regency trough «name your own price. For the rates that I’ve paid for this hotel, I really can’t ask for anything better.
I normally park on the street if I’m staying here on a Saturday. Street parking is free after 6 pm and I don’t have to worry about waking up early the following morning to feed the meter. If you’re staying here any other day though, good luck with that. You’ll have to wake up early enough if you don’t want to get a ticket. Or, you can just valet or park in the nearby parking garage for $ 20/​night (not associated with the hotel and no in/​out privilege).
The Hyatt Regency has an Einstein Bagel Bros that’s located inside the hotel and is open ²⁴⁄₇. So if you’re back at the hotel after a night out and looking for something to eat. You can always make your way there. Or, if you’re too lazy, they’ll take it up to your room for an extra charge.
I’ve stayed in different rooms at the hotel. Some rooms come with a bathtub, some rooms come in walk-​in shower only. I guess it just depends whether or not I’d get a free upgrade when I check in. I’ve never asked, but sometimes, they just give you that free upgrade. They’re cool like that.
The room is your typical hotel room. You get your typical coffee maker, two free bottles of water, in-​room refrigerator, coffee maker, TV, all the usual stuff. WiFi is also included for free when some of the other hotels charge for it, or they would charge a «resort» fee for it. Not here. Just log in using your room number and the name on the reservation and you’re online.
The Check-​in process is always quick for me, When there’s line in the regular check-​in, they will have somebody from the «gold» check-​in line to help out. The wait is never long even when there’s a long line.
I have to say, my stays here have been so much better and so much cheaper compared to my stays at Hotel Icon Downtown. And street parking is so much easier to find around here.
Definitely will be back. Probably a lot more.

A great stay. I want to give a special call out to James who fixed our air conditioning (wasn’t turning on quite right), then moved us to another room — but only after he had gone and checked it out. He then took the extra initiative to have the keys and everything transferred to the new room while we went to dinner so that we would’ve have to wait at the desk.
They also had a free shuttle to the Astros game.
We would definitely stay again!

We had an awesome stay! Our 18 wedding anniversary and hadn’t planned on staying over night anywhere. We found ourselves driving to Houston and I booked a room at the Hyatt! The rooms were so nice and clean and the staff was so helpful. Especially Fernando who had worked there for 42 years! We will be back!

Such a perfect location in downtown Houston with easy access to everything, including the tunnels. Oddly, the front of the hotel is not where the drive-​up entrance is; you take your car to valet park on a different street than the front of the hotel, which is a driveway for cabs (or something). Confusing.
Speaking of parking, valet parking was $ 32 a night (!). I found out later there was a $ 20 lot across the street unaffiliated with the hotel, but I doubt it had in-​and-​out privileges. Plan your budget accordingly.
With that out of the way, the hotel is on point. It does have a 30-​story atrium in the middle, making it a hollow tower. It’s beautiful, complete with glass elevators. The rooms have modern upgrades, including USB ports and adequate, easy-​to-​find outlets and good lighting.
Here’s where #firstworldproblems comes in: I am a Hyatt platinum member, and I was invited to use the new Hyatt app. Unlike other apps, I wasn’t allowed to choose my room, only to check in early. I got a regular room (when I probably could have gotten an upgrade), but the app allowed me to use a kiosk to get a key and skip the counter. Any changes (like getting a second key) require going to the counter, which defeats the purpose.
It’s a great hotel with super friendly staff. If cost isn’t an issue, this is a great choice.

I love Hyatt Regency Houston. I come here every year to attend My company’s annual employee party. I never thought I would have a chance to lodge here.
My partner and I went to downtown to attend Houston LGBT Pride celebrations in June. Since I knew my old self couldn’t drive at night after being exhausted from waking at the parade, staying in downtown was for my safety.
I made my reservation online with my AARP membership to receive 10% discount. Yeah! Did you know other reservation sites aren’t cheaper than
I later found out I could make reservation on the Unilocal page. Nice!
The check-​in process was smooth at the hotel counter. I was a little upset when I couldn’t check-​in online from home, but dealing with human has been my preference. The staff was really hospitable and the line moved quickly. While waiting in line, a server offered champagne to us. I glanced over, there was a table with a bowl of apples and fruit punch jars. How inviting!
Other reviewers were right. The walls were thin. I could hear next door’s conversations as well as the noisy crowd at the bar. The canyon-​shaped interior allowed revelers’ echos long after the bar was closed. Since I am a heavy sleeper, that didn’t bother me. I paid $ 18 for a city/​pool view upgrade. What I got was a sliver of city streets and a panoramic of giant wall from another building. Woo… that was not well-​spent.
I could see the room was furnished for business travelers. It was spacious and bright. I just didn’t care about that complicated interactive TV. I noticed there were lots of modern technologies: USB jacks to charge your phones and tablets, Ethernet ports for wired internet connection and electrical outlets on the desk as well as at nightstand. Very innovative and convenient.
We also enjoyed a couple of complimentary Starbucks coffee bags and tea bags (little tricky to make tea with that unconventional coffeemaker). After 11 pm, all nearby and onsite restaurants were closed. I saw a high-​end hot dog stand right outside of Einstein Bros Bagels. I was told it was because of a concert at Minute Maid Park. Boy, that $ 5 hot dog didn’t fill me up. We had to get out to Midtown for some real food.
I hate dealing with parking situations. Once front desk told me the parking was included in my hotel stay, I decided to leave the hotel. However, the parking attendant collected $ 20 from me because I parked at wrong garage. If I knew, I would have stayed. But I couldn’t back up in the garage. Grrr! Upon return to the hotel, the valet attendant was very accommodating. He only charged me half day. That made sense when it was less than 10 hours to my check-​out time.
Overall, it was a very nice stay. I just had a minor concern about the muggy smell in the room. I think I’ll bring an air purifier next time.

We stayed here a couple of nights while in Houston. Great hotel, although I’m not sure if I would spend $ 300 to stay here. We were able to get a $ 66 rate on Hotwire. The hotel is in a great location. Just a short cab ride to the soccer stadium and Minute Made Park. The staff was very friendly and helpful. Very. We didn’t eat at the hotel, so I can’t give an opinion on the restaurants or bar, but the rooms were clean and the bed was pretty comfortable. It’s a little confusing getting to the skywalk to the garage. Missed it a few times and noticed lots of guests doing the same thing with their luggage. Some directional signs are really needed on the second and third floor directing people to the parking garage. That was really my only «complaint».
I would definitely stay here again if its a Hotwire deal.

Stayed over Memorial Day weekend for Comicpalooza.
The fair rate made us more… relaxed when it came to extra expenses at the hotel. This is a corporate hotel, so there is not much for kids. and there is very limited dining downtown on a weekend. The Room was clean and functional.
The staff did not seem to have many practical/​useful recommendations for a family traveling with children. We got in at dinner time and wanted to grab a quick bite, but of course they recommended a «night spot.» What wanted was something quick, simple and warm. not an elaborate event that would require a lot of extra hassle. They just did not seem to have any other recommendation.
The Concierge desk also had no information about the special event shuttle, again something I would expect a downtown hotel to have on their radar.
In the end, we spent more time on the internet doing research, getting the car out of parking and driving to another part of town for meals. It was less aggravating.
Want a warm bed and a location with easy access to downtown? Great spot.
Support for family visitors? Meh, do your own research first.
Valet parking? It was a good deal for us.

What a nice hotel to stay at if your in the downtown Houston area! The staff is very welcoming! I was greeted with kindness and awesome service. The rooms are super clean and the beds sleep likee heaven! Room service is wonderful. Ordered 2 Bacon Cheeseburgers and these hamburgers where perfectly cooked. And the hamburger bun was super soft and kind of sweet tasting! Room service closese a little early, like 11 i think, so I was very happy that the guy took my order at 10:50 and still made it right and didnt rush! Check out was great and simple!

Upon a perfectly planned birthday, we booked Yellow Cab online to escort us to our reservations.
Upon the cab pulling up; Charlie pushed my party out of the way to give to people who slipped him a nice tip.
The hotel was oblivious, with bother more than a sorry.
CUTTING UP THE HYATT PASSPORT; finished with the subpar service at a premium price

In numerous Hyatts I’ve stayed with over the years, they are, in my opinion, notorious for grand lobbies and nightlife — fun bars and usually sound inhouse restaraunts.
Same thing here but the room was nice — no older carpeting or outdated furnishings. Great coffee bar in room and upgraded modern bathroom. (Hot water could have been a tad hotter — I took several showers early and late — just sayin)
The bed was okay but not a JW Marriott quality. Not even close to a Westin bed — when Westin was at their peak, when top quality beds were king. The Hyatt bed wasn’t awful but it could have been much better; firmer and cozier. Bottom line, it just felt like an older bed and definitely was. Beautiful duvet comforter and plush accessories.
Shula’s steak house was a great dining experience our first night. Too tired to go out, it was perfect to walk out and over to it. Einstein’s on location offers all night service to your room — loved that! Fresh, hot and yummy beagles to grab on the go in the AM was awesome too. 24 hour room service is tops; Einstein’s was at least an option for a carb loading midnight or two AM snack. Great option vs. most room services that close by 11pm.
Great, helpful staff from check in to valet was exceptional. 37.00 a day to valet was well worth it — it can get very crowded on weekdays with conventions at the hotel and the nightlife in Houston hotels can include a lot of non hotel patrons.
I would stay here again but for more than three stars, the Hyatt will have to open up the rooms in square footage and compete, adding top of the line quality in advanced superior bedding.

Like I’ve said before, whether it’s a restaurant or hotel (or someplace else!), you can tell a whole lot about the quality of an establishment by how well the back of the house works. And the back of the house really had it together here: even with heavy lunch-​hour traffic, no dock and angry yuppies trying to drive in through the exit, the maintenance crew calmly directed me in and blocked the lane while I brought down their kitchen equipment (goodness, I’m sure hitting a lot of restaurants!)…
Me and the wife go on little mini-​vacations every month or so: sometimes San Antonio, sometimes New Orleans… maybe we should be tourists in our hometown and stay here! I’ll certainly recommend it to my better half…

Great Elevators
Have stayed here on a few occasions. I don’t normally like to stay at large mega corporate hotels, but when the price is right via Priceline, you get what you get.
*Its a Hyatt Regency. It’s big, it’s bland, it’s a modern American, soulless approach to quality hotels. Character does not abound.
Pro’s:
Plenty of elevator capacity, never more than a minute ot two wait.
Large rooms.
Comfortable bedding.
24 hour Einstein Bros (not that I love Einsteins, but if a case of insomniatic hunger strikes, you’re covered).
Downtown location.

Cost I guess. After seeing other reviews and looking at Travelocity, I might be frustrated paying what others paid. But as I mentioned, I rolled the dice with Priceline and got a killer rate.
Food– Shula’s Steakhouse. They could have selected better as the main restaurant.
Over all, for a large corporate type place it’s perfectly fine.

I came in around 9:30 pm on Jan 27^th, and was told at front desk that there were no rooms left. I was offered what was described as the same room that I initially booked (which was a king room), but with a full size bed, for half the original price paid and with breakfast comped. This sounded fine until I saw the room. It was not just a smaller bed, it was a Murphy bed, in what could not possibly be a room meant for guests. Enough said. I will certainly be avoiding future stays at the Hyatt.

After a rough 4-​night stay, this hotel was very underwhelming. I was looking forward to staying downtown in what I thought would be a somewhat luxurious hotel but ended up dealing with problem after problem for the entirety of the stay. For what you get, this hotel is extremely overpriced. In addition to nightly rates of $ 300+ you will also pay $ 15/​night to self park without In/​Out privileges OR valet at $ 32/​night. Basic Wi-​Fi is another $ 10/​night. Also, no free breakfast.
Upon arrival we checked in quickly and without issue. The staff was courteous and helpful which added an extra star to my overall rating. However, when we entered our room, it was immediately apparent that our air conditioning was not functioning correctly. After attempting to adjust it for some time, we had to have engineering come up and fix it. The engineer got it running correctly but it stopped working two more times over the next three days. This was very inconvenient.
We were delighted to see plenty of coffee and tea options in our room but after making a cup and realizing that our tea smelled like vinegar and cleaning solution we decided to pour out the drink and refrain from utilizing the in-​room coffee maker. Yuck! The room also had a small refrigerator that we used to store a few drinks and a couple of food items. Unfortunately, the fridge was too cold and froze all of food and drink. It does not have an adjustable thermostat so we weren’t able to use it either. Bummer.
Our room was on the 8^th floor but there was still quite a bit of noise from the lobby/​bar area below. There were signs asking patrons to reduce noise levels after 10pm but it didn’t seem to do much and the rule was never enforced. The bed was comfortable but three of our pillowcases had marks or stains on them. The bed also has a decorative cover to hide the boxspring but it was torn and beat up which was kind of an eyesore. The couch had visible stains and a previous guests clothing item was sticking out from underneath it. Gross.
I may not be the target clientele for this hotel, but I know I could’ve had a much nicer room with more complimentary amenities at your typical run-​of-​the-​mill Holiday Inn or Best Western. I realize that prices are high because of the downtown location and I understand that, but please at least give me a comfortable, clean, functioning room for the price!
