History

Established in 1989.

Irma Gonzalez Galvan was born in Brownsville, TX on December 4, 1941. She was the oldest of four children. At the age of five, her mother brought the family to Houston, TX. Irma started working at a very young age to help her mother and three siblings.

Irma worked at the Purse Wholesale Furniture Company for over 20 years when tragedy struck her family. In 1982 her husband Louis was murdered, by now Irma had four children. She struggled as a single mother with no insurance and no backup plan and the economic down spin the city was going through, she decided to operate her very own business and started a small sandwich shop in downtown Houston.

Although there were many times that Irma almost gave up she had to keep going. She soon changed the restaurant to Mexican food and that’s how Irma’s Mexican Restaurant was born. She brought her personal furniture from home to the restaurant and soon was able to hire her children to work with her.
