Jaime’s Custom Upholstery & Rates

Had 2 pieces, Natuzi leather couch and chair both with recliners, Bought in 1997 at Star and they were not cheap. The leather still looked good but the seats an backs were wore out, needed new springs and re-​stuffed. Jaime Sr came out and looked at them and quoted me a decent price and also transported them from my house. The couch was real heavy. His comment was it has good bones and is worth redoing. Took about 7 to 10 days per piece and we still have them in the living room and they are about as good as new. He did a great job redoing the springs and seat back support. Far as I am concerned he did great and considering he took care of pick up and delivery I was happy with the cost.

I needed a piece of Sheep leather sectioned together for a custom built console for my Truck. The rear panel was to be sewn in line with the top, so the metal beads lined up on the template that I provided. Jaime Jr made a drawing on the receipt as we discussed price. So to get a good idea of what this entailed, it was three pieces of very thin material (leather) that were 12 inches long by 2 inches wide for the center and two 12 inch by 6.250 inch wide, The console is 14 inches wide. Jaime tells me he can do it for $ 65.00. You read that right $ 65.00! Were talking about 24 inches of thread. it takes 2 minutes to sew three pieces together.
The leather has to be glued to the metal backing after it is sewn, and stretched to line up with the top! I marked red lines on the metal where the pieces align, and Jaime went out to the truck at my request to show him exactly how it should line up. So now he offers to glue it on and says he will only charge $ 120.00 to do it all. I declined the offer, and pointed out he would have to have the truck there to line the metal up first, then glue the leather on. So I said, how much to just sew the three pieces together? Before he answered I pointed out that my first job in high school was at a trim shop. So he lowered the price to $ 40.00 dollars, which was still high. I reluctantly agreed so I could finish my project
So we go back in, and he says that will be $ 40.00 cash only… so now I’m thinking he is going to sew this after hours and pocket the cash. Again I go over the alignment, and where each piece goes, and he reassured me he would get it right. The Leather is from a repurposed Double D Ranch Jacket, so there is no room for error. (I can’t get another one) Jaime say’s he may even have it ready the next day!
After many excuses about the leather sewing machine broke and the repairman has to fix it… almost two weeks go by! I called several times to both numbers, and no answer for days. No return call for days. Finally Jaime calls to say it is finished.
I get there and Jaime Sr brings the piece out. and I look at the seams, and they are straight and well sewn. I pay the young lady at the desk, and own my way! Jaime Jr would not even look my way (which I found odd).
When I get home I realize the panels have been sewn together on the wrong sides (the wide sides were to be sewn to the center piece). How can anyone screw this up! I provided a template, and he provide his own notes and drawings. Naturally I called to speak with them, and the daughter tells me they are busy (what do you want?) I tell her I was just there, and the piece is backwards! Well they are busy, and can’t stop to talk to you!
Wow…great concern for your new customer! I told her they ruined my project, and thanks for cheating me out of $ 40.00!
Unfortunately Jaime trimmed the edges off the wrong side, so now it is impossible to take it apart and sew it right.
Looks as if the transplants from Los Angeles don’t know what Texas is all about. THANKS Jaime’s for ruining my project… Double THANKS for not caring!
