Had breakfast here a few times, it was solid but not spectacular. I had heard a lot about it from older Heights residents, but wasn’t overly impressed. Good coffee and they hyped the baked goods/pancakes as they were plentiful. Had the huevos rancheros once and should have known I could do much better(they were really anglofied). Drove by today and windows had brown paper on them so its remodeling or closing I guess.

I thought the food was OK. I am not in a hurry to come back though. So many other options around Houston to try. It wasn’t anything spectacular. They seem to have a solid group of regulars. I did like the Croissants pretty well though. I am a bread head unfortunately for my thighs, LOL

I was really confused by my Java Java experience. They had good reviews on Unilocal, but people are talking about they are closing, so we find it. It was right in front of our faces but the building is so non-descript and inside is lacking any charactor… no décor of any type. I figured if it was as crowded as it were then that mean’t the food was incredible because they sure weren’t there for the atmosphere. It turned out to be underwhelming. The service was slow and the waiters seemed confused about which tables were their’s. The eggs came out luke warm and there was no presentation. If this was once a mighty place to eat, it is no more.

Good food! I thought it was a little pricey for what we received. But I’m looking forward to going back and exploring the menu a little bit. The pancakes were a huge hit, and the eggs Benedict are great, although I think the avocado eggs Benedict might be better from what I’ve heard. Ambiance is lacking a bit, but this is an eclectic hole in the wall where you can get a true feel of the heights! I’ll be back.

Though this Heights mainstay will soon close down, they appear to have done a good job feeding the locals. It is winding down its time, but they are still pumping out decent food for who they are as a restaurant. The menu isn’t as cheap as you would think, as the décor is fair, the landscape is a bit rundown, and the quality of ingredients isn’t the best. Perhaps they haven’t taken care of it since acknowledging that they were going to close up shop. The huevos rancheros boasted 2 corn tortillas, bland black beans, and a layering of cheese and what tasted similar to Pace salsa. Nothing to hurry over for, though I will say that the over-easy eggs were well executed. Their avocado benedict ups the quality one notch, with a whole half avocado(though, I would have preferred them to pre-slice it…) and a fairly good sauce. At the least, give this joint a shot before they close their doors for good; it might bring you back to the Heights that once was… pre-gentrification.

Ordered the huevos rancheros, chicken salad stuffed avocado, and a kids pancake. Everything was really good. No complaints at all. My daughters pancake was fluffy but not too fluffy. I normally prefer huevos rancheros with refried beans, but they use black beans and it was actually really good. My chicken salad wasn’t the best I’ve ever had, but I loved how they shredded the chicken. I would definitely order it again. Cameron was our server and he was very polite and attentive. I even appreciated how he treated other tables. Great food, great service. We will be back!

The staff was friendly but no one was around to greet us. So we just assumed we pick a table and menus and seat ourselves. Someone came in from a patio(i think) and provided us with silverware. The decore is pretty minimal. It’s a little dreary looking but my friends d and I saw the menu and were excited to try the French toast and the combo. The food came out fast. A little too fast quite honestly. It’s like the already had most of it prepped and it was just heated. The waffle reminded me of my school cafeteria days. The potatoes my friend ordered as a side reminded her of fiesta potatoes from taco bell(frozen and fried). The French toast she ordered looked slightly burnt. And after ordering we ended the up with a close to $ 30 bill. For the quality, we expected the prices to be lower. But, everything was an add on for the French toast.

«A-Okay» I sit down and open my silverware before I order a drink. My fork is dirty so I ask for a clean fork when I order my drink. I order the French Toast croissant. At the end of my order, I added«Oh, I would also like a plain croissant, to go.» I also ask for a clean fork, again. My entire meal shows up To Go. Hmmm… ok. I consider eating it there, because I’m really hungry… then I look down at my dirty fork. I decide that I’ll take it home so I can have a clean fork. I pay at the counter and the guy working there was nice. I like that they use cardboard to go containers instead of Styrofoam. Once I got home, I found that I really like the croissant french toast. This was an odd experience. I’ll give them another try some other time.

Java Java was medium at best. The service was no good… the server took very long intervals between table visits, leaving us without drinks or whatever it was we needed at that moment. I ordered the chorizo egg breakfast tacos and was very excited because I love the taste of chorizo. After I received the taco and took the first bite, I almost sent it back thinking they got it wrong… you could barely taste any chorizo as it was overwhelmed by egg. The dish very bland… I didn’t want to finish it. BOTTOMLINE: Not one of the areas better places for breakfast.

Wow! Great food & service. I grew up in the Heights & this was my first time here. Thank you Unilocal I really loved their breakfast & service. Sorry food went so fast I forgot to take pictures. We had the pancakes & waffles with grits & biscuits. I will be sure to return many more times. Gotta love the Heights! & restrooms are very clean

Holy mother of croissants! This place has the best ones! And then they go and make french toast with them… I swear, you don’t even need the syrup, they are so perfect. We went there for late breakfast with my husband. He had the breakfast tacos and I had the orgasmic french toast with fruit plus a cappuccino. It was the perfect start to the weekend, in a place that has no fancy aspirations, just delicious food. Service was also very nice. Places like this make me happy to live in the Heights!

Food: Awesome. Must have a croissant. I had the avocado benedict with a side of bacon. It was amazing. I don’t normally like hollandaise sauce, but their’s is whipped and really good. Service: Could’ve been better. It wasn’t packed so I guess they were short staffed, or just not attentive servers.

This place is perfect when you’re not in the mood for cooking or better yet, not in the mood for waiting for a table at one of the wildly popular brunch destinations in the neighborhood. If your looking for mimosas and fancy salads, this is not the place. It is somewhere between a diner, a café, a bakery, a Denny’s, and your grandma’s kitchen. Even though the place puts coffee in its name, the coffee is nothing special. They should more appropriately name the place«croissant croissant», because that is the menu item that sets it apart from anywhere else in the neighborhood. The croissant is a deliciously massive and dense slice of goodness. Overall the food is good; about what you should expect when you walk inside and get a feel for the place. The prices are really really good too. Perfect place to go when you can’t figure out what to do for breakfast and you don’t want to think too hard about it.

The place is cozy and the staff is really friendly, we had the stuffed avocado and the California burger and they were both pretty good. Loved the cheese in the stuffed avocado plate, it was the perfect palate cleanser along with the fruit. The avocado was juicy, fresh and creamy. We’ll be coming back to try other items on the menu.

How have I missed this place? The food was good — the service was a little weak. It is a good place for to take care of that feeling that you get from a few too many vodka red bulls the night before. While I was too impressed with the service, I would definitely give it another shot — maybe it was a one-off kinda day. It was super busy.

What a great breakfast spot! The food reminds me of a diner. Nothing fancy, just hearty breakfast food. I got their big breakfast, which consists of three eggs, hash browns, your choice of sausage or bacon, and a croissant. The standout of the meal was the croissant. It was buttery, fluffy, and perfect. I would definitely recommend getting one. The service was friendly, and they kept the coffee coming. I will definitely be back.

Since moving to the area, we’ve started trying different breakfast places each weekend. This past Sunday it was Java Java. Busy little spot, not fancy at all, but that’s definitely ok! We arrived a bit early for a Sunday(10am) so we were able to be seated almost immediately. I ordered an iced decaf to start. Don’t think I’ll do that again though. It was a pretty watered down cup of coffee for $ 3.50 =\ I figured that I should try the coffee though, you know… it’s called«Java Java» right? To eat, I got the breakfast combo with scrambled eggs and bacon. Eggs were perfect and this is seriously the first time I’ve gone to a restaurant and they’ve been able to PROPERLY make my bacon«extra crispy». Usually, places will just cook it longer on the regular high heat and end up burning parts of it. But Java was able to make it perfect. Delicious. David ordered an eggs benedict. I thought it was almost, too much lemon in the hollandaise though. I think this will be a regular spot for us, not for coffee though… ehh that’s a shame.

First time for a late breakfast(noon) was on a rainy Tuesday. Very quiet and not busy. It appears to be that sorta ‘regulars’ spot, during the week at least. I saw a few older people dining solo with a news paper… Super cute! The breakfast was delicious. I ordered the big breakfast, including eggs, sausage, potatoes and a HUGE croissant. My mom ordered the quiche with a side of fruit(included soup and salad bar). They had a variety of quiche fillings such as mushroom n bacon, spinach, ham, asparagus, etc. Very, very casual dining experience. Nothing fancy, just plain good breakfast and lunch and friendly service. I’ll be back.

Yes, the croissants are good. But really, they aren’t THEBESTEVER. They remind of the big ol’ croissants you can get at a Vietnamese-French bakery, or Lee’s Sandwiches. The croissants were the saving grace of this place. My eggs florentine were like robin’s egg florentine. The eggs were sooo small and overcooked. I was expecting a larger portion for $ 11.50. The mocha was horrible. Don’t do it. It was also luke warm. I don’t plan on returning!
