JW Marriott Houston Downtown

Hip and chic. JWs area typically nice anyway but this one was really unique. Exposed steel beams of the original building. Nicely decorated. Smells awesome. And one if the best beds I’ve slept on in a while. Great rate for what you get.

We’re die hard Marriott fans. This hotel has like 2 cons and a lot more pros.
Cons: creepy area. Although it’s considered downtown There is nothing to do within walking distance. At least not in the winter time.
We didn’t get extra shampoos. Had to use the same little bottle for 2 nights shared between me and my husband. I didn’t bother to ask for extra.
Pros:
1. Little delicious chocolates by the bed. Only one though. We are 2 people!
2. Beautiful room. Small but lovely.
3. The shampoos smell divine (Aromatherapy)
4. The hotel is super trendy and modern.
5. Gym. No pool though. You do have access to a pool that is shared with some other place which we didn’t go to.
6. Free shuttle within 5 mile radius! Best thing ever. Especially since there is NOTHING in the creepy area in the winter it was too cold to walk long distances. The «shuttle» was a Porsche cayenne no joke!
I highly recommend this hotel. Although if I’m back in Houston I probably wouldn’t stay in this area (I prefer location to luxury at this point in my life).

Called in the morning of our check in date and spoke with Gertrude to see if we could get an early check in since several of our party were going to the Houston Texans game. They were able to accommodate us and we were happy with this news. Gertrude however sounded terse, and unfriendly.
Getting to the Hotel, only 1 person outside for the Valet, one guy ran out and offered to help bring our bags to the desk, no one was around to help with bags to the room. This was a bit unusual to me. This is rated as a «5 star» Hotel someone should be there to do those things.
Check in was quick and done so with a smile and a great customer service and attitude. I am not sure what was going on, but the check in was done at a long table with a lap top. Maybe it is a more minimalist approach but it seemed awkward. One man walked up and asked if he could use one of the «check in» lap tops, for personal business.
We get to the room and it is a nice spacious 2 bed queen, it was clean and well laid out. Upon check in they told us to check the iPad in the room for hotel services. The iPad did not get an internet signal almost the entire time. When we first came to the room we were able to see have internet access for a minute and it was logged in under someone else’s name. After that it was just not receiving a signal at all. Called down to let them know and said they would send someone from IT up. 2 hours later no IT, in the meantime we had to ask for a regular room service menu and took over 1 hour to get a paper copy of the room service menu.
I wanted to view spa services and book a pedicure but I was unable too because of the iPad not working and no contingency plan to have a book to review services. Someone from «IT» never showed up the entire visit.
When pressing the room service button the call was each time diverted to another number that said they were experiencing a high volume of calls so each time a call out was done it was a wait. This was also odd.
Same day as check in Room service was delivered quickly and correctly only about 20 minutes after ordering. Very tasty grilled cheese and tomato soup as well as an order of guacamole, at a cost of about $ 40.00.
Room service breakfast was also done in a timely manner however the female that took the order incorrectly said that coffee was included in the order, we also asked for room service for 3 people, and asked for water with the order.
When the guy brought our order he said no coffee comes with the order, but was happy to go and check. They said the girl was new and didn’t know coffee was not included. The breakfast also was over 40.00 for 2 plate’s just eggs, potatoes and chicken sausage and toast, and a $ 6.00 glass of orange juice also not included.
The location of this hotel is excellent for downtown fun and going to restaurants within walking distance. The hotel itself was very pretty, nice and clean.
I called the Hotel the next day about something that was left behind and low and behold who answers the phone again. Olé Gertrude, once again spoke in a manner that was as if she has had no customer service training what so ever just down right unfriendly. I also during this phone call session I was doing I spoke with Roy and with Intifar (sp?) in loss prevention who were very nice and had good customer service.
This Hotel was NOT a 5 star hotel with the lack of service, and slow or no follow through. If you tell someone in a room you will send someone up to check the IPad, then do so, also have a plan I am sure we were not the only ones with no working IPad.

This is truly a five star hotel. From the moment you arrive and step out of your car, the staff is helpful — opening doors and assisting with luggage. Check in is easy and painless and we were on our way up to our room within about 5 minutes of arriving, and it was a busy Friday evening.
Rooms are spacious and extremely clean and very modern and up to date. There is an iPad in each room which you can use to surf the net, find things to do nearby, or order room service. The bathrooms were also very spacious and the shower was phenomenal (I’m a big shower snob). Also, the beds were on point — super comfortable.
Staff is very friendly and helpful of course and will do anything they can to make your stay comfortable. There is turndown service each night where they will close the blinds in your room, turn back your bed, put slippers beside your bed, and leave you a ritzy chocolate truffle.
Only draw back is there’s not much to do downtown. There is a JW Marriott near the Galleria so I would recommend staying there if you’re looking to relax and have things to do. However, if you need to stay downtown for any reason, I would totally recommend this hotel.

This review is for the NYE Party which was the WORST NYE party I have ever been to. The place was packed and the crowd was not what you would expect from a JW Marriott. Entrance was cheap but drinks were pricey at $ 12 for liquor (not top shelf) and $ 6 for beers — I will say the pours in the VIP section were generous. The purchasing of drinks was annoying since you had to purchase tickets that were for either liquor or beer (i.e. basically determining you and your friends drink selection for the night) and line for tickets outside of VIP was quite long. IF for some odd reason you decide to go next year, the VIP section is worth it because it is the only area you can actually walk around until 12am when it also got packed. The casino area was pretty crowded and ended at 12am…
So after leaving the underwhelming party… to our surprise it got worse… the parking garage for the party. In 30 minutes we moved down half a floor and we started on the 11^th floor. We decided to cut our losses and just park and cab. turns out they had a single line for people to exit but each person had to swipe their parking card, pay, and then exit. This was at 12:40am, I can only imagine how much worse it will be by 2am.
DO NOT go to the NYE party unless you like to have sweaty drunk people run into you and spending longer in the parking garage then the actual party.

I was really impressed by this Marriott. Check in was a breeze, staff were professional and morale is high.
The rooms were very, very nice, clean and well-​appointed with lots of outlets and very new-​looking bathrooms with upgraded fixtures.
Allow me to say that I also had some of the BEST room-​service food I’ve ever had. Everything was fresh and HOT! Delicious, too! Haven’t had a meal like that from any room service in many many moons. Outstanding!
Comfortable beds, QUIET room = well-​constructed building. You will not be disappointed if you stay here!

This is the best hotel I stayed at in Houston so far. Everything about this hotel is just awesome. The hotel seems brand new and modern. The rooms are well designed, spacious, and clean. For me the gym is almost as important as the room and this place did not disappoint. Modern machines for all body parts, high quality treadmills, good amount of free weight Dumbbells, ab room, free headphone, fruits, berry infused water (need I say more?). The hotel staff were well trained and on top of their game.
Only negatives here were that my shower did not have hot water. The staff quickly switched me to another room but I had the same issue. Also, the breakfast could be improved. The eggs tasted odd and they could have a bigger variety. Regardless, I would not hesitate to return here every time I’m

Very upset. I’m staying there tonight and I ordered in room dining. They told me it was going to take about 40 minutes which I considered a little long but ok. So I waited for an hour and my order did not arrive. I called and they told me they had been trying to call my room and nobody answered and that they did not knock because there was a DND sign in my door, which wasn’t true. So I called again and they told me they had my room number wrong and that if I still wanted the pizza it was going to be another 40 minutes. So upsetting! I looked for pizza someplace else but I didn’t want to go out of my room…

Stayed here a few days for some meetings
Service– good, not great
Room– great, clean, cool, new
Gym — really great gym!
Meeting space – seems like they did a good job with what they had to work with its an old building so not huge spaces but still nice
Dinner – excellent! and drinks were on the money
Breakfast – lots of healthy options, very fast service and awesome coffee.

Very nicely decorated and well located hotel. I stayed here while attending a conference at GRB conference center, which was only a 15 minute walk away. The hotel staff was very cooperative and did everything they could to make our stay a good one. The free chocolate and champagne didn’t hurt, of course. I am knocking off one star because their system seems glitchy– we had a bunch of charges to our room that we never requested. They removed the charges when we proved we didn’t order extra things. Overall, a good experience.

I don’t know how this hotel only has 3,5 stars??!
— GREAT SERVICE! (which it self is worth 5 stars) One of the receptionists even went on her day of to buy a hat for us (we had severely underestimated the distance and were pressed for time). We also had a birthday during the visit and they made her feel very special indeed!
— Beautiful design and décor
— Great rooms
— Free guest shuttle — Who had to drive back and forth several time for us (as we apparently have very forgetful minds) without a single complain.
All I have to say is thank you for exemplary and very personal service! Anytime I’m back in Houston, this is my hotel!

Beautiful? Yes! Great service? Yes and some of the best in the USA I have seen. Room? Really nice. And QUIET! Yay!
Why 4 stars? Food… Breakfast… Wow was it bad quality. Sure I am picky, but 5 star hotel with fake eggs (from a box) and hard Boiled eggs also from… Well certainly not here. Fresh squeezed juice… I watched them take premise juiced from other containers (store bought) and pour them together. Viola! This equates to your typical 3 star place that advertises «hot food!». Folks I am not exaggerating… It really is the exact same stuff. This went for BOTH the executive lounge and the restaurant downstairs.
Weird right? Such a BEAUTIFUL place and wow what a quiet room… Location great… Why skimp on quality of provided services? Well no matter I won’t be back.

My third time here, and this is my favorite Marriott property. The rooms are clean, spacious and have great amenities. The bathroom areas are large, and the tubs are a great touch. The turn down service is great too — always nice to see the gourmet chocolate treat on the bed stand. If you’re an Elite member, they have the best lounge area anywhere with a fantastic selection of beverages and food. If you’re looking for a place in downtown Houston, THIS IS THE PLACE!

Oh JW, you made my night! We live here in Houston, but had a party planned downtown. We opted to get a room. I found a great deal on
and made the reservations!
While we had trouble with getting to the hotel, due to construction downtown, once we did figure it out the valet was moving quickly. We opted not to use the valet, but they were very pleasant and gave us perfect directions to the garage. *note: parking is not free :(
Once we arrived in the lobby we were greeted with nothing but professional smiles. As they looked up my reservation, it was not in the system. I showed them my confirmation email and they were on it! Room ready in a very short time without a hassle. I thought that they handled that very well.
We arrived in our room and it was beautiful! I loved everything about this room — the linens, the toiletries, the huge sliding door for the shower/​toilet area, the lighting, the TV & tablet — everything — really! The bed was so comfortable with great pillows and they even get harvested rainwater, which I thought was a nice touch compared to other types of bottled water!
As we were leaving for our party, they offered to snap of photo of all of us and told us how great we looked. They asked questions about our outfits and party and carried on a conversation with us while we waited on our Über to get there. It felt relaxed and unpretentious.
I would love to come back and sample their bar, spa and galleries! I would recommend this place to anyone looking for a spot downtown!

My room was very impressive and functional. Loved the bathroom and grand tub. (They need bubbles) I am not easy to impress because I have stayed so many nice places around the country for work. I very much lived the room set up – easy to relex, easy to work.
The common space and the meeting space are great. I bit too much A/​C but very functional.
The one service that needs some tweaking is the Spa. I went for a mani /​pedi and the technician was great but the bench you sit on is horrible and very uncomfortable. The only product they have is water-​based polish. There was no product to take off my gel… but more than anything the set up just does not work — who ever designed it was not in touch was comfort and functionality needed.

Luxury at its best! This hotel is beautiful from the lobby to the rooms! I must add that the service is top notch! I wanted a little piece of chocolate and they did not have anything so Sergio gave me a slice if cake of the house! The turn down service is awesome with a sweet little treat waiting for you in the night table. I love both properties, however this new location is a must if you want a luxury hotel in Houston. It is downtown but a quick drive to everything.

I really wanted to write a more positive review and have been holding off to do so since May 9^th; however, it is May 19^th and we have yet to receive what we were promised. Here goes:
A few mommy friends and I stayed in an Executive Suite on May 8^th to kick off our Mother’s Day weekend. We had drinks in the bar, beautifully decorated, nice crowd, but extremely slow service, made candles in wine glasses in our room, had Pappasito’s catered in, and had planned an evening out at one of the local bars, but that part didn’t happen. It didn’t happen because as one of the moms was in the restroom brushing her teeth, the very heavy door underneath the vanity came crashing down on her shin and foot! We immediately notified the front desk who sent security and the night shift manager up to our suite within minutes. By now, she’s laying on the couch with ice on her leg and foot that have already began to bruise and swell. The manager and security manager meet in the bathroom to assess the issue and come out extremely apologetic saying «there was a screw missing and the door malfunctioned. It’s not even a functional door.» We then ask what they will do to «fix» our inconvenience due to the injury. They leave out and come rushing back in with two bottles of champagne and wine glasses, oh, and an Injury Report to be completed. As the manager goes to place the champagne on the table, down goes 2 of the wine glasses shattering ALL OVER THE PLACE!!! By this time we’ve really had it but are being patient because they really were being extremely nice and apologetic to our party (so much for a relaxing start to our weekend!). Anyway, the manager promised us a FREE return visit for 1 night in the Vice Presidential Suite for our troubles. By now her leg is very swollen and bruised mind you. We thought that was reasonable and fair and were good with that promise. Fast forward to 8am the next morning. We go down for breakfast as a group. I walk over to the front desk to settle up our return visit to stay in the Vice Presidential Suite, and I hear crickets. Nothing. Blank stare. They knew nothing about it. So I invited the now day manager over to our table so he could interview the others and not think I totally made it up. They told him exactly what we were promised, and his response was, «that is something that has to be approved by upper management, and we don’t have the authority to invite you back. I will work on it. Here is my card (handed one out to each person at the table). If you don’t hear from me by tomorrow please follow up, but I’m going to the back right now to start working on the request.» What request? That’s what was offered to us… we knew nothing about a Vice Presidential Suite sir. Several phone calls later, and we have yet to receive a returned call back or any information on that promise to return to that «Vice Presidential Suite.» What happened to making good on your word? Where is the customer service? Someone was injured on your property due to a malfunction or improper installation of a very heavy door. Next step… no more Mr. Nice Guy!!!

I prefer to stay at Marriott Hotels whenever possible due to them being predictable and having above average service and amenities, so this may be biased. Each and employee greeted me with enthusiasm and provided even better service than I expected. The hotel seems new and the room was spacious. The only negative was that I could hear the ice machine and what may have been the hot water circulation system when trying to get to sleep. I would stay again and just ask to stay at the end of a hallway so that these sounds would not impact my sleep.

I travel to Houston a lot for business. This is my new favorite downtown hotel. Rooms are spacious and modern, beds are very comfortable, high quality in room amenities (Nespresso, aromatherapy bath products, etc).
The hotel has easy access to the tunnels that connect downtown, which is key when it is blazing hot or raining. The hotel staff is incredibly nice and provides top notch service.
Highly recommend giving this property a try.

This hotel is incredible. Warm and modern the employees are friendly and attentive and the whole experience was extremely luxurious.
We loved the giant soaking tubs and cloud like beds with huge large screen televisions. Most information and requests can be found and made using your rooms iPad.
This is hands down one of the top hotels I have stayed at and wouldn’t hesitate to return if I come back to Houston.
