Had an issue with a suit of mine while at work and ripped the seat of my trousers came in to Martin and was very pleased with the service and the speedy repair while I waited. I found myself in trouble 30 miles from home and they came through when it counted.

High-​quality, trustworthy tailors in Houston.
It’s tough to find a tailor you trust, and when you do, you won’t go anywhere else. Martin is that for me in Houston.
I’ve been going to Martin’s for years, and they have done everything from taking in suit jackets, hemming pants and even repairing a hole in a sweater. All you have to do is walk in, put on whatever you need tailored, tell them what you want, and they will literally make one or two swipes with a piece of chalk and you’re out of there in less than 10 minutes. Prices are reasonable, and paying in cash gets you a slight discount. The work is quality and things come back post-​haste. Service is no-​nonsense and efficient (they are busy after all).

I have been coming here for three years now, and I cannot for the life of me figure out why. They are a nice family business, but apart from that, I have experienced very poor quality.
For example:
–Took two shirts to have extra fabric removed from the sides. When returned to me, shirts no longer fit.
–Took a white shirt for alterations which needed to go to the cleaners. After the work was completed, they steamed it, setting any and all stains.
–Took suit pants to bring in waist and taper legs. Had to have them re-​done.
–Took another pair of suit pants there to bring in waist and taper legs. Had to have them re-​done, and I made the mistake of trusting they would be done correctly. They did not make the correction.
I have had good experiences, but as with all Unilocal!reviews, the good outshines the bad. I like that they are a family business, but if you want high quality work, I recommend trying another option.

The little unassuming building on the corner of Shephard and Feagan St. I have to say, I had a great experience. The staff was not overly nice, but I did not have anyone treat me with any disrespect. I walked in they asked if I was picking up or needing help. I was in there maybe 5 minutes from the time I walked in until I walked out. I like that they text you when your clothes are ready. I dont even think it took twenty– four hours to hem my jeans.
It was a bit expensive, but they did great work and I am happy. They only negative comment I have is that I was told I had to pay before not after I recieved my jeans. When I went in the next day to pick my jeans up, they asked the guy in front of me if he wanted to pay now or later. I had a twenty doller fix, his was over one hundred. Why would I have to pay ahead when his was clearly more expensive than mine? Its not that big of a deal, but I think if you want to create loyality among new customers, I would suggest having the same rules for everyone.

This place knows their stuff. They are professionals. They do it right and fast.

Do they do good work, yes… But beware, they will try to price gauge you when it’s time to pick up your clothes and pay. The 3 times I’ve been here, I’ve been quoted a round-​about number. However when I arrived to pick up my clothes, they asked me to pay 3 – 4 times the original quoted amount. Yes I understand it’s a quote, but they should be experienced enough to properly quote their alternations. This last experience I was told it would cost $ 60, I agree and leave my clothes… Then at pick up they tell me it’s going to be $ 170. There’s something wrong here. I would never have agreed to that amount, when the cost of the alteration is more than the cost of the item. I won’t be bringing my business back here.

They did an okay job on hemming my pants but when I came to pick them up they could not be found initially. My name was written incorrectly on the alteration slip. In addition, they could have put my pants in plastic bag like most other places do. I looked at the lady handing me my pants for a second or two thinking she would put my pants in a bag after hanging it on the rack for me to retrieve. That did not happen. I find the customer service here is horrible and the prices are higher than other tailors. I will have to pass on this place the next time I need an alteration. Furthermore, while I was there overheard another customer dissatisfied with the alteration of his blazer and has to have them redo the alteration. And that is another reason why I won’t be going back.

I brought my wedding dress to Martin’s last year and have been bringing my clothes here ever since! They do such a fantastic (and fast) job altering all styles of clothes, from formal wear to jeans to my husband’s suits and dress shirts. It’s also family owned which gives it a great vibe, not to mention everyone is always so nice.
Martin’s is well worth a commute (I drive about 30 minutes to get here) and I highly recommend them to anyone asking around for a tailor. I’ll be bringing my clothes to Martin’s for life!

This place is awful. They charged me $ 90 to get my suit slightly altered, and did a horrible job. I would never recommend this place to anyone.

Martin’s always gets my clothing done before I need it and it is always hemmed or taken in so well! These guys are a great spot and they are always so friendly! They even text when your order is ready, so it doesn’t take time out of my day!

I’ve been to Martin’s twice and each time I went I was very impressed with the timeliness, quality of the work and service.
They do a really good job and after all of the places I’ve tried in Houston, this place is the best. The prices are very reasonable and the staff is very nice. Highly recommend if you’re looking for a new tailor.

Terrible customer service. The old woman roaming around collecting information from people was so demanding and rude. They way overcharge.

This time they blew me away! I was semi hopeful that they could fix my shirt for a very special occasion. Martin Jr. had the vision and he said it would work! I could not see it but I trusted him from working with them twice before so I said yes. When I picked up my shirt I was THRILLED and so pleased! It was perfect! I am a customer for life!

I had an evening dress and a pair of jeans altered and was very happy with the work. I thought it was a bit pricey, but then again, jeans and evening dresses are pretty much the most expensive things to get altered. It was done in a timely manner and they texted me when the clothes were ready to be picked up.

i have used and trusted Martin Tailors for more than 30 years. My daughter had them make a christening dress for her first child, and yesterday that child had her wedding dress altered, beautifully, by them. Martin steamed the dress and we laid it lengthwise in the car, ready for the wedding.
So many times over the years they have fixed the unfixable and taken in that which they let out a couple of years ago. I have asked them to copy a piece which I loved and was falling to pieces, and they did so perfectly.
Because I usually pick up on my way home from the gym, and don’t want to try on all sweaty, I take my clothes home and try them. Occasionally, I take something back which needs a bit more fitting etc. they are most willing to do this, always.
Often I have recommended them to friends and acquaintances. The feedback has always been positive.
Thank goodness they continue to be there when I need them.

I have been going to Martin Tailors since the late 1970’s, when both Montrose and I were way cooler. When I left Houston, I would bring clothing back for them to tailor when I came to visit. I wore a jacket they custom made from a vintage quilt for over 20 years!
Love the owners, the staff, the quality of work and the shop. Not going anywhere else. Now that I am back in Houston, I do not have to!

It’s rare for me to venture outside of a restaurant review, but the work the team at Martin Tailors does is so top-​notch that it would be a disservice to NOT let the world (or Unilocal!world at least) know about their incredible service.
The Hernandez family has been tailoring for over 50 years, and in Houston since 1970, and they know they’re stuff. I’ve brought everything to these guys for the past 3 years — shirts, jackets, pants, etc. — and everything has come out great. It’s hard to place a value on a perfectly fitting shirt, but at Martin Tailors they have reasonable rates across-​the-​board, and the quality is definitely worth it. On the rare occasion that something hasn’t fit «just right» (not due to their work, just my own picky preferences), they are always willing to adjust it to get it right. I definitely recommend giving them a few days to work their magic on your attire (you can’t rush a work of fabric-​based art, right?) but if you need it day-​of, they do same-​day service as well at a slightly higher premium.
My ONLY issue is — now that I’ve moved to San Francisco — where am I going to go to get my tailoring done?! There’s only one Martin Tailors, and that’s the shop in Houston that’s been making Texans snazzy for over 40 years, and hopefully for years to come. Looks like I’ll just have to find me a new tailor. Thanks for making me look sharp during my time in Houston, Martin Tailors!

Came in with a new suit. I was greeted promptly and the service was friendly. Dressing rooms were clean and large, which was nice. I was sized up and marked for changes in no time. I had the blazer waist taken in the sleeves shortened, cost approx $ 100 (my sleeve buttons are functioning so they had to take the sleeves in from the shoulder, extra $ 30). My pant legs were hemmed, cost $ 15. I paid up front which I usually don’t do but I was referred by friends who have been using this tailor for years so I trusted them. I picked them up four days later but the blazer wasn’t taken in at the waist. I had to have them redo it, which was inconvenient but not that big of a deal. They did it with no problems and had it to me the next day. Professional work, I can’t tell that it was tailored, the seams are perfect. They did forget to strengthen my blazer buttons like I asked but again, not a big deal. Parking can be tricky but not impossible. Checkout my second go was not the friendliest, it was an older woman with bright lipstick but this is not really a complaint, just an observation, customer service is everything! I would definitely use them again but the small mistakes is why I couldn’t give them 5 stars. All in all I was out $ 120 with tax which is fair for the workmanship. I recommend them!

I have been going to this place for several years now and have been pleased, but the customer service has definitely gone down. I came on Unilocal to see if other people noticed the same thing. The older woman at the counter is pretty rude to people. I noticed because I was waiting there for awhile. I heard one of the guys there embarrass a man who went in to get a coat fixed that was obviously too large for him. They asked him in a mocking way why he even bought it, was it on sale, was it the only coat he could buy, and finally ended up telling him to return it because it would be expensive to fix. He looked pretty embarrassed because everyone there heard him basically get made fun of.
Then after trying everything on, I was told my 8 pieces, mostly pants to be shortened, would be $ 320 and that I needed to pay upfront. I find this to be very strange to pay upfront for a service before it is even done. One lady was told $ 45 for a dress, then when she complained, they changed it to $ 15! The older lady with a lot of makeup at the counter looked at her like she was such a bother. They truly give the impression that customers are the uninvited guests in their home. I am ready to try a new place. They are too arrogant here, and I know there are other places who can help me, not barter for prices, and not look down on customers who voice a concern.

I came here looking for an easy, inexpensive way to alter a bridesmaid dress and have left with a wonderful dress, but a bad experience.
When I first arrived I was told that my dress had to be taken out with a tie-​up corset back, which I definitely anticipated because of the beadwork (my chest is just a few inches too big for the zipper). But I was sent to go get fabric myself to a store located downtown and very much not convenient. I really wasn’t sure what I was supposed to buy, but I went anyway and spent a good amount of money and time doing so.
When I came back I saw a different gentleman who essentially told me the fabric was pointless and he could just use some of the fabric from the original dress. Which is great, but annoying that I had been given opposite instructions beforehand.
At the time of pickup I was able to try my dress on and the work was really nice, but it was pretty much impossible to do a lace up by yourself, and no one was there to help me. So I’m still hoping it will look okay, but no one was all that friendly or took the time to make sure everything fit well.
When I checked out the price I paid was quite literally double what I was originally quoted (to which the lady said «that’s why it’s an estimate») even after I was sent downtown to buy unneeded material. And as a final note on the experience, she automatically ran my card as credit without asking if it was debt (you get a discount for debt… also my card says Debit) and when I mentioned it, she said «oh well, I already ran it. «
Overall I’m just really disappointed because I rarely get things altered and this experience ended up costing almost just as much as the original dress. I felt very poorly treated compared to the men I saw in there with their suits getting tailored, so I doubt I will be coming back.
