Specialties
MD Anderson Cancer Center is one of the world’s most respected centers devoted exclusively to cancer patient care, research, education and prevention. U.S. News & World Report’s «Best Hospitals» survey has ranked MD Anderson the nation’s leading cancer care hospital for 10 of the past 13 years.
Our doctors see more cancers in a day than most treat in a career. We treat all types of cancer, including rare and uncommon diseases. And, thanks to important scientific knowledge gained in the laboratory, we’re constantly bringing our patients promising new cancer treatment options — and more cancer clinical trials than anyplace else.
Every patient benefits from our hallmark multidisciplinary care, which was pioneered at MD Anderson. This approach brings together our experts to collaborate and develop the best cancer treatment plan for each patient. Patients and cancer survivors also benefit from our supportive care services, such as nutrition, integrative medicine, and personal and genetic counseling.
Through our Lyda Hill Cancer Prevention Center, we offer services to help men and women learn to reduce their chances of developing cancer and detect cancer at its earliest stages. We offer screening exams for breast cancer, cervical cancer, colon cancer, prostate cancer, skin cancer and lung cancer.
In addition to our Texas Medical Center location, MD Anderson has a growing network of locations around the Houston area, the nation and the world.
History
Established in 1941.
MD Anderson was created in 1941 as part of The University of Texas System. It is one of the nation’s original three comprehensive cancer centers designated by the National Cancer Act of 1971, and is one of 41 National Cancer Institute-designated comprehensive cancer centers today.
Since MD Anderson opened its doors in 1944, 1 million patients have turned to MD Anderson for cancer care. More than 120,000 cancer patients come to MD Anderson each year from the Houston area, the nation and around the world.
