Metric Motorcycles and ATVs

NO STARS IS NOT AN OPTION SO I HAD TO PICK ONE STAR BUT IT’S ACTUALLY NO STARS!!! I made a serious mistake going to this guy. He gave me his word that he was going to custom tune my bike according to the custom modifications I had done to it. Instead he downloaded some crap off of a laptop which actually made it run worse. Before this «custom tune» I could do 110 with no issues, after his tune at around 80 – 90 it start running like crap and pinging. I took it back to him and explained what was going on and he said he did all he could do to it. Didn’t offer a solution, or a partial refund or anything. His excuse was he made a messed up remark about my weight. I said it ran better before you touched it, explain that. He couldn’t so I don’t recommend anyone take their bike to him. I got upset and left the shop. Since then I have spoken to many bike clubs, bike builders, bike shops that are familiar with him and they say the guy knows how to do the work right when he «wants» to do it, he’s very arrogant and he’d rather blame, you, the bike, the parts or his tools, rather than blame himself for doing half a$$ work. Beware, he talks a good game but once he has your money, he’s like a con artist, he’s gonna give you whatever he wants to give you. So everyone that really knows him, doesn’t recommend him because he is not consistent or trustworthy. Making the customer happy is not his top priority. You’ve been warned, take bike at your own risk!

Andy knows his Italian ladies. I brought a new to me but well used Monster S2R 800 for a timing belt replacement, valve adjustment, and brake bleed. He not only found a very serious issue with one of my forks, but he actually completed the entire job in half the time he quoted and for less ! $ than any other Ducati shop in Houston. He’s very thorough, knowledgeable, and efficient. I’m moving to the bay but I’ll make sure to refer my Houston friends to Andy at Metric Motorcycles.
Ps– He works through email. Not too complex really and I actually enjoyed that method of communication as it provided a conversation log.

Sent Andy an email and received a response soon there after don’t try and call though because if he is working on a bike then he won’t answer which says a lot about his work ethic. Very professional and answers every question no matter how dumb (I’m new to motorcycles so it was pretty cool to have someone to answer questions and not judge). Pricing isn’t too high and the quality of work is awesome. Had a tire changed out and was done in about 30 minutes. Will definitely be going back to metric for all my bike needs.

I’ve brought in my front and rear tire on two separate occasions to get mounted and balanced. I made an appointment and got the new tires on in fifteen minutes or so. Andy is real help full and can answer your questions with a good sense of humor and his pricing is incredibly fair.

I read all the fantastic reviews and decided metric was the only place I wanted to take my bike. I showed up there during his hours of operation and no one was there.
I knocked, called and sent emails. No response. This place wasn’t close to where I live and it really frustrates me that a company can be so terrible with customer service. I find out that he doesn’t keep regular hours, only appointment, and he doesn’t answer phone calls or voice messages. Really? Is rather go somewhere I can count on

Probably the best motorcycle mechanic in Houston. Andy does good work and is always very reasonable. He’s blunt, which I imagine may annoy some but is actually quite important when it comes to making decisions on the care of your machine. I notice that, while his hourly rate is higher, he finishes jobs faster and therefore ends up being less expensive than most others. I tried all the other shops in Houston, but I keep coming back to Metric. Now, I refuse to take my motorcycle anyplace else for service.

Had terrible experiences with his shop on multiple motorcycles. I will never let him touch another motorcycle I own. Unprofessional, doesn’t address work that was done improperly, doesn’t respond to e-​mails about problems poor work caused, isn’t responsible for poor workmanship, seriously late to appointments when coming in from out of town. He has obviously done some good work in the past for some of my friends, but my experiences with him were just the opposite. It is my understanding that he no longer is an MV dealer.

I’d originally rated this shop at 5 stars. However, I didn’t wait long enough before writing my review. After subsequent dealings with the shop, I’ve found it a little unpleasant, and so I’ve changed my rating to reflect that.
Andy replaced a battery for me and sold me a warranty for the battery. The battery failed, and I asked him to order a replacement. After two weeks and nary a word from him, I called to check on it. He said he would «see what’s going on there [because] obviously something’s not right.» After another two weeks, I called to check again. I got a curt reply: «It hasn’t come in.» It’s now been many months, and I haven’t heard from Andy again. Granted, I could keep badgering him about it, but at a certain point, it isn’t a consumer’s obligation to demand a business honor their agreement.
After purchasing a new bike, I was having trouble getting it started and called Andy to see about taking a look at it. The window for dropping the bike off was always incredibly small, an arbitrary two-​hour period on one day and a different arbitrary two-​hour period the next. This made it complicated to get the bike there, since I was having it towed.
I held up my end of the bargain, but this business sold me short. I completely agree that Andy is professional in manner and does good work. But I won’t be returning for service.

Simply put, a professional, and that is not something you find all that often in the motorcycle repair and tuning business. Andy is well known and respected in the serious motorcycling community in Houston (and elsewhere). Know what you want when you talk to him and know that you will get the finest service available.

Rather than reiterate every point Jesus A. has made I’ll just agree with him.
I have had my bike serviced by Andy a few times, and each appointment he takes the time to answer any questions (stupid as they may be) I have.

To understand Metric you have to understand the South African culture. To say that they are a tough people would be an understatement.
Metric Motorcycles is a one man shop run by what is probably the most no-​nonsense person I have ever met, Andy Marcer. Even though Andy’s shop always seems to be full of motorcycles and he is the only person manning it, I have never had to wait a single second past the stipulated time. He is incredibly apt at working on any machine, and is one of the few independent licensed shops that work on Ducatis. He is also Houston’s only approved Racetech technician, which is near impossible to be, unless you’re the best. It’s no surprise that Metric is the go to place for most of Houston’s motorcycle racer when they need their fine tuned machines working at the top of their capabilities.
Your typical experience at Metric will go something like this:
–You call ahead and schedule your appointment with Andy.
–A very brief and curt conversation follows in which you explain what you’re bringing it in for.
–Andy will explain your options.
–You bring your bike in.
–A few days later you’ll pick up the bike.
–You remark: Wow, my bike has never run this well before.
Quick, easy, painless. It sounds like this should be the way most shops; Sadly, that is far from the truth. Most shops will give you the runaround and make up excuses to why your bike isn’t ready for two weeks when all they needed to do was an oil change. Andy is a true pleasure to work with, just don’t bother him with trivialities, he has plenty of bikes to work on, and no much time to do it in. A few of the other services offered in his shop are Dyno tuning (!), Custom Head work and Machining, and valve work. I do most of my work myself, but when the job is out of my scope, Metric is the only place to go. My motorcycle is my pride and joy, and I wouldn’t trust it to anyone else. No-​nonsense is to be found here, just simply the best. Oh, and if you have any doubts, a bike tuned by Andy just broke the world landspeed record for it’s class, by over 4 mph. Yup, he’s that awesome.
