Michael Saldana Salon In Midtown

I had an appointment with Michael. He cut and dyed my hair, which is a big deal for me. My hair is curly, and it was my first time in a salon in 12 years. The last time I went I was seriously disappointed with the results, and I had been cutting and dying it myself since then.
I wanted a really rich red though, so I knew I needed help.
I came in very anxious with a picture of what I wanted. He was extremely receptive and friendly (as was every individual I spoke to).
My hair is beautiful. It’s exactly what I wanted, and my fear has subsided.
Thank you, Michael! I will be back in a few weeks.

Jen is amazing. She is my favorite nail tech. I am very picky with my nails, but she always gets it right. I love the fact that she is very neat, that’s one of the most important things to me. I have tried a lot of nail salons and sometimes ended up with bleeding cuticles, damaged nails from excessive buffing, etc. Yikes. I love Jen’s manicures + shellac. She always pays attention to the smallest details and creates the coolest designs. All hand painted. My shellac lasts 3 weeks minimum. If I get any diamonds with my design, they do not come off until my next visit. She was also able to fix my broken nail and no one could even tell.

Close to work? Easy street parking? Michael Saldana Salon is definitely worth checking out, at least.
I was able to schedule a same-​day appointment with Michael (the owner) in the afternoon — first impressions, this is a cute little house converted into a salon. Next thing I notice: there are a LOT of dudes at this salon. I’m all about everybody taking care of yourself, no matter who you are. Though with the pretty stylists, I can see why guys flock here, if ya know what I’m sayin’.
I was actually kind of surprised at how subdued my experience was — I don’t expect too much from my appointments, but a little conversation never hurts. Michael WAS efficient and precise on my haircut, though, with even the slightest flyaways whittled off.
I elected for a shampoo as well (#TREATYOSELF), and during the shampoo I was…“treated” to a peppermint oil massage on the edges of my face (think temples, forehead, etc), which was actually really unexpected and caught me off guard. It was pleasant, but a fair bit of warning would have been nice!
Otherwise, I was pleased with my haircut. First timers only pay $ 25, but Michael’s regular price for a men’s cut is $ 37, and he doesn’t do trims in between cuts (it’s just considered another full-​priced haircut).

Color me surprised when I received a call from Michael himself who (after reading my last review) apologized for the service I received at the time and offered to make it up to me. I have never received a call back from any business before but Michael truly cares about providing good customer service and seeks to remedy any less than stellar experience at his salon. He has no qualms about coming in early while I may not have been as bright eyed and bushy tailed at 8:30 am on a Sunday. Having Michael explain his plan of action with coloring my hair with warm caramel highlights and the history of his salon (plus the stylists and artists that work with him) whilst he folded my hair in aluminum foil was a phenomenal experience. This was what I was looking for! Granted he’s a very busy man but having his undivided attention as he transformed my hair to this amazing looking ombré lite/​highlighted look, it was easy to see why fellow Unilocalers rave about him and his salon! After that total 360 experience, I would gladly come back and with enough time I hope this place becomes the «Cheers» equivalent to my salon needs.

Michael is an incredibly gifted stylist. Michael Saldana is the only salon I have regularly visited because nowhere else in Houston have I been satisfied with a stylist who can work with thick, stubborn hair.

Best hair care I’ve ever seen in my life!
I came to the salon after 3 unsuccessful hair coloring within the last 5 months. This time my hair was damaged with very dark, uneven and cheap-​looking color, absolutely unnatural. I showed the picture of what I initially wanted to Michael and Natalia, they said right away that it is not possible to get this exact color without causing even more damage to my hair. I really appreciate this honesty! Not like it is everywhere else — you come, explain what you want to have, they nod and say they can do everything as you want, then you leave with crap and damaged hair. In Michael’s salon it was the first time ever that I was told the truth from the beginning. Here I must note — the color I eventually got is much, much better, more beautiful and natural than the one I had in the picture! I totally love it!
Since my case was rather difficult, Michael and Natalia worked together, he was helping her both with hands and advice. Another thing that I have never experienced before was the way they treated the hair, both Michael and Natalia were so cautious and caring in order not to damage the hair, they applied amazing deep conditioner and my hair now is incredibly soft. And though I usually don’t buy products from the salons I loved Aveda treatments so much that I purchased the range of products best for my hair right away.
As for the price I would say that given my situation and the final result the price was more than reasonable. I remember once paying almost twice this price for a creepy hair color in another salon which made my hair look dull and very, very dry. I only wish I learned about this place earlier — that would have saved so much time, money and what’s most important — the quality of my hair. I also loved the blow out that Natalia did, it was very beautiful, so romantic style, one of the best I had in my life. And Michael. he’s just a magician, I think he knows everything about the hair, he will not take his chances and do something wrong with your hair, he wants to be sure that the final result will be what you want but with as minimum negative effect as possible. Not only he knows the hair, but also he knows how the products would work with this exact hair, how to mix them, how to apply them — in order to get the best result!
To summarize, I would say that if you are looking for a place with very high quality of products that will have minimum negative effect on your hair and treatments that will make your hair not look — but really be shiny and healthy; the place that has very relaxed atmosphere and friendly team; and most important — the place where hairdressers are so experienced and caring, whose goal is not to make anything on your hair and style it so you would look like a star when you leave the salon but then after you wash your hair at home you’ll look like a scarecrow, but hairdressers who really do care about the quality of your hair — Michael’s salon is the best place for you! After 8 unsuccessful attempts I finally found the best salon, I’m very happy :) thank you, Michael and Natalia, see you next time!

I recently moved back to Houston from New York and was looking for a new stylist. I came across this salon on Unilocal and I’m so glad I did! The appointment was a bit short notice and their team made it all work.
I saw Jay for a haircut and highlight and I’m so thrilled with the result. He explained his procedure start to finish and really seeks to educate his client. Natalia topped it off with a great blowout. Thank you to the whole team for making this experience so lovely! I will DEFINITELY be back!

It has been a few months since my last visit but I wanted to share my thoughts on this salon.
So when I first moved to Houston, one of the things I needed to find was a place to cut my hair. I did a bit of research of barbers and salons close by and I happen to stumble upon Michael Saldana’s.
The reason why I am only giving three stars is not for the hair stylists (who did an amazing job each time I visited), but for the scheduling. Let me explain.
My first visit was with Lilly and she did a pretty good haircut after I tried giving the best description of how I usually like it done. She was both accommodating and friendly and I thought this was a good start.
My next visit was with Jay and I was pleasantly surprised at how well he cut my hair and how it was exactly like the way my hair cutter of 12 years would do it. I then continued to see Jay for each visit for a span of almost a year and I was amazed at how great his memory was in regards to the way I have my haircut done and just previous conversations we had.
Then it started. I came in one day with an appointment and they told me they were running behind. Okay, no worries it happens. After about 20 mins. I finally was seated, no problem right? Well, the next time I came in for an appointment, I rushed over from work and they told me that he was running behind again. It wasn’t just 20 mins. this time. He was so behind that 2 – 3 people were still in front of me and the salon was calling those that were next on the list who didn’t want to wait on-​site. Let’s just say I waited for more than an hour! I really wished they contacted me beforehand so I didn’t have to rush from work. Plus, I don’t have all the time in the world to wait around… isn’t that why you make appointments? Anyways, once I saw Jay, he was apologetic which was very courteous of him and told me that it was a crazy day. Understandable. So again two months later, I come back for a cut after that experience and I have to wait at least 30 mins. At this point, I was over it. After that last visit, I had no intention of coming back. Let’s just say I took my business elsewhere where they actually see me during my scheduled time and still do a great cut.
I wish I could continue to have Jay cut my hair, but honestly, I don’t have time to waste to just sit around and wait.

I LOVE Michael Saldana salon! He squeezed me in last minute & stayed really late to fix up my roots, since my job doesn’t allow me to be anywhere during normal business hours! My haircut is so perfect as well, that I can just let it air dry and it looks AMAZING! The vibe of the salon is awesome too. Check it out!

I’ve been letting my hair grow for about 9 months and decided that even though I want it to get longer, I need to do something with it. I went in not knowing what to expect (or even knowing what I wanted) and Jay was AWESOME! Not only did he give me a great recommendation on what cut I should get but explained what he was doing throughout the process. Choosing where you get a haircut is an important decision. Give this place a try and you’ll be happy with the results.

I had gone to this salon about three weeks ago and asked to get bayalage done on my hair with some warm hues of caramel. This was my first time getting my hair color treated so I was a bit nervous. Even though I had used the Aveda color shampoo and conditioner, the color seemed to fade quick. So I was not satisfied. BUT, I called back and told them about my experience and they told me to come back and get a color correction done. So customer service at this salon is the best.

When someone takes the time out to call and reach out to apologize about a haircut you feel insecure about, it’s greatly appreciated. Michael has a wonderful salon and was very customer service oriented. Though I took a few weeks to make the review, Michael was generous enough to allow a full refund. The team is very supportive of customer care. One little mistake turned into a generous caring salon. Proving dedication and loyalty to their customer matters. I’m thankful. Michael, thank you. I still recommend the salon and look forward to returning when I’m back houston.

Michael did an amazing job! I’ve been looking for a stylist in Houston, and this place was perfect. It was clear that Michael and the rest of the staff were extremely knowledgeable and talented. I am very pleased with my hair and absolutely will be coming back.

I decided to try this salon spontaneously today. It’s been a rough couple of months and i just wanted to relax rather than be rushed at a «popular» haircut place. I definately was not dissapointed. The price is a little more than im use to paying but well worth it.
The atmosphere is great in my opinion. Quiet, lots of natural light, many mirrors to see whats going on around you. Lily cut my hair today, she is very sweet. She didnt make me feel rushed at all, nor make me feel embarrassed about my very poor treatment towards my hair. She was patient and diligent and she introduced me to angled layers that i really enjoy. I am definately coming back and maybe next time i will put my trust in this business with introducing me to something new! :)

Fabulous!!! Michael is a genius! I came in thinking I needed to chop my hair short because I just couldn’t maintain a style at that length with the Houston humidity but he saw through it and gave me one of the best haircuts I’ve ever had. My hair actually looks longer! And it’s sexy! I’ve found my new hairstylist!

I’ve been looking for a salon /​stylist since moving to Houston one year ago. I recently stumbled upon Michael Saldana salon while on a walk with my dog. It looked adorable, I love Aveda products and had good reviews so I decided to give it a shot, and I’m glad I did!
I made an appointment with Lilly, as she had the appointment time available that was best with my schedule. Lilly was great. She really listened to what I wanted — I’ve been growing out my hair since my last somewhat traumatic butchering… I mean cut at a different salon. Lilly really brought it back to life without taking too much off. She styled it beautifully and helped me find the right products to help my wavy hair battle the Houston humidity.
Parking was easy (plenty of street parking), music was great and the atmosphere in the salon was really nice.
It was a bit more expensive than I would normally spend on a cut, but it was worth it as I am very happy with the results.
I’ll definitely be back.

It was great services. Pricey but reasonable. This place was really but amazing décor. I made my boyfriend go try it out because he was being spontaneous and wanted to get his haircut. So, not bad at all. I will try to go here for myself. Especially since I want extensions. It was the ONLY place I could find open on a Saturday. Especially after work, which was after 5 and I was shocked to find this place. Parking is a bit hard and crammed. So park on the street not in the drive way, just in case the workers are trying to go somewhere. It’s just a tip! It’s a great place just the parking is a tad bit difficult.

Been to Michael Saldaña Salon 5 times now, and I can confidently say that Jay Flores is one of the best hair stylist I’ve met. I give Jay and the salon staff 5 Solid stars!
Was new to Houston, living in Midtown, I went to 3 different hair salons, and had a variety of talents sculpt my natural curls, which are challenging btw, and kudos for trying. Some cut it dry, others wet, but never to my complete satisfaction :(Luckily I called Saldaña Salon and they said, Jay can handle this!
I refer to Jay as Dr. Jay, he is very intuitive & and has a good knowledge base of hair nutrition, hair growth pace, and of course, styling. He knows the in-​house products as well, and makes good recommendations. He throws it out there, doesn’t push the products, and I have purchased some and they are of good quality.
Also, worth mentioning, there is plenty of free street parking, aaaand they are open on Saturdays!

Just got done with getting a haircut with Michael.
I’m not your typical customer I have curly hair. For all my curly hair sisters out there, you know the horror of getting a terrible cut. I’ve gone to several places in Houston, M Salon, Sok, Hair By Amburlee (who moved to friendswood)… Michael Saldana has toped them ALL.
I’m a broke student who can’t afford to pay over 100 buck for a haircut every 6 months, but still went to those places in hopes to love my haircut.
Why go here.
1. Great service. It was actually a negative review turned positive that convinced me to come. Michael makes sure you’re happy with the results.
2. Not stingy with the products. Curly hair is thirsty hair. He literally kept moisturizing my hair until it wouldn’t absorb any more.
3. Price. I paid 80 bucks with tips. Thank you for making it affordable, Michael.
4. The price they quoted me over the phone was the price I paid. Not with M Salon.
5. He listened. He was even open to learn how I normally style my hair to make sure I was happy. Who does that? He even commented how interesting my technique was.
6. I got what I wanted and more.
Curly girls, this is look no further.

I just want to say this place and its hairdressers are truly top-​tier quality with the perfect blend of professionalism and a personal desire to make the client truly happy. I’ve gone twice, and both times I was greeted on time, offered a beverage, and my hairdresser was honest yet unbelievably friendly. I am generally somewhat clueless about hair, complimenting face shape, and other necessary details crucial to pulling off a certain look, so having someone like Meaghan (my first) or Damaris (my second) to guide me and involve me in every step of the process while making easy conversation was wonderful.
Both ladies are amazing in talent, and although Meaghan is no longer there, Damaris is a TOTAL STEAL (she’s Michael’s sister btw).
A few people have complained that they went to Michael personally only for him to pass them off to others for certain aspects of the haircut, but you need to understand that he’s the owner so he is responsible for every client’s finishing touch, which means his attention will inevitably be diverted — no offense to him. My recommendation is to go to someone reviewed on Unilocal favorably or go to Damaris, the boss’s sister because then you get top talent and all their attention. :D
The only reason this review gets four out of five stars is because the prices for women’s haircuts are ridiculously high to the point where you’re reluctant to add highlights or color gloss. Even though this is probably the best haircut I’ve ever had, it was $ 75. On top of that they do expect you to buy products and tip quite decently.
