Man, this is the best fried chicken I’ve had since moving to Houston. Soft roll with perfectly cooked fries, soft on the inside and crispy out. Will definitely go back.

Legit fried chicken. On Frenchy’s level. Fried rice was alright… just get the chicken. It’s kinda hood inside, but it’s in the hood, so what you expect? Take-out only. Cash only. Parking sucks.

Battered to perfection that the fried chicken’s crunchy exterior is crispy yet doesn’t flake/fall off like Frenchy’s. I ordered it with fried rice, which needs some soy sauce or salt when eaten alone; but with the chicken it balances out.

This is my favorite fried chicken place! I have been going here since I was 7 since it was around the corner from my house. The owner and staff are very friendly and the service is excellent. The food is not overpriced like all of the other chicken franchises. There spicy seasoning is very good. I usually get the 5 wings special. Their burgers are also very good as well as their French fries! I also usually call in my orders and it is ready for pick up as soon as I get there. They do not take credit cards so bring cash, it’s worth it!

Not bad for junk food. Stay away if you’re looking for a healthy menu. Long shot from being a Chinese restaurant although it came up in my search for Chinese food.

Amazing 3 piece fried chicken(#2), and love the fried rice side. Fried trout and fries were great too, according to my partner. About $ 14 for a meal for two, including a mini sweet potato pie. We will be back for sure — this place knows what they are doing.

Again, I don’t like giving bad reviews, but hey… My last review of this place was 5 stars, but now I must drop that. Poor customer service is a huge point of contention for me. After frequenting this place for over 8 years, I never thought I’d experience bad customer service AND from one of the owners(older lady, I am assuming she’s the wife). I placed an order with someone who was training and the order was wrong. It was no big deal to me, because it was a mere matter of getting the right pieces of chicken. Apparently, it was a big deal to her, because not only did she openly reprimand the trainee, she also admonished me — questioning if I had ordered the right thing. She did this several times, before I actually had to stop her and ask her if she was okay and if we had more than just a wrong order problem. They get two stars, because the food was still good. However, I haven’t been back since and I won’t go back. There are too many other places in Third Ward to patronize and no business owner should get so comfortable to believe this behavior is acceptable.

To me this is like a knock off Timmy Chan’s. Don’t get me wrong this place is solid, but I enjoyed Timmy Chan’s more. This location is tiny, just barely enough for you to order and stand, if it’s not too busy. Shrimp fish wings and rice for 6.59. They are quick so at least you are out of their pretty fast. I ended up getting my tray and eating it in the truck. I ate it fairly quickly as it was tasty. But I did eat up another spot for longer than normal, but when you got no tables, that’s what happens.

what other place to go to for fried chicken then going straight into the hood where they know what they’re doing. that’s right. the staff is very quick to push out all their orders as they get booked up with phone orders and walk ins so don’t get offended if they don’t slow down to ask you how your day is going. they’re just doing their job. i haven’t tried any of their other stuff yet, but their fried chicken is always a hit at every potluck. their batter is on point, not too thick and not too thin. it’s fried perfectly with a soft crunch to every bite, flavorful, and the meat is so juicy and tender. their wings are a little over $ 1 each, but it’s definitely worth it. try one, you won’t be able to stop. i guarantee ya. chunkin’ a deuce.

Another hole and the wall chicken joint that’s a must. If you are in the area, let me changed that even if you not in the area it’s still a go to place. I get the spicy even though it’s not spicy at all to me. They also have a good fried fish.

2nd best chicken spot in Houston, 2nd best. Frenchys is number one but this place is a close second. When I go here I always get the six piece chicken wings with two jalapenos and extra crispy fried for about 8.60 give or take. Bring your cash with you that is the only form of payment they except. It’s a little yellow shack on the corner that you can not miss simply because of all the cars that are jammed into the parking lot. I advise anyone who goes there to order ahead and if they tell you 10 minutes show up in 15 it will be ready by then. A little bit of history Recently they added bulletproof Windows between the cashiers and the customers. I kind of felt a little nostalgia from my years growing up in Detroit. Everywhere you went all the businesses that interchanged cash between customer and employee had these Windows in place

It’s pretty much perfect for what it is. Chicken, fish, fries, and shrimp — hot outta the fryer. Call ahead, bring cash, return to dieting tomorrow.

NOTE: Cash Only! Oh My Goodness! A coworker bought some chicken from here once for a party and everyone asked where it was from. It was so good! Stopped in to Number 1 Chicken myself some time later and it was crazy delicious. No dine-in, pick up only. It was busy, the line was long but continuously moving.(I suggest calling in your order to pick up) Some of the best chicken I’ve had so far– wonderfully crispy on the outside and moist, fall-off-the-bone inside– so good! I’m hooked!

I’m addicted to fried chicken so I decided to try out this spot. First off, it’s packed. Even at 4PM, which I thought was an odd hour = more parking? Packed, but moves really fast! So don’t be discouraged if you come and see no parking in a tiny lot — just wait awkwardly in the parking lot with your car, potentially blocking 3 – 5 cars from backing out(pray the ones you didn’t block are the one to exit soon ;]). The price is very affordable! I got the number 1 convo with shrimp fried rice(+$ 3). Expensive, but I accepted it. Luckily they fill the entire box with fried rice and just not the tiny dividers! To me the chicken wasn’t special, but nonetheless delicious. The highlights were the sides! Man I hate wavy fries, yet they do theirs the best! Greasy, but why not?! The fried rice shocked me the most. It isn’t your typical Panda Express fried rice. It’s comparable to legit Chinese restaurant’s fried rice, just not as many ingredients, but cheaper so it makes sense. GETIT. Next time I go, it’ll be mainly for these sides!

My family was craving fried chicken one night and wanted me to pick some up after work. So I fired up my trusty Unilocal app and saw one that was kind of close and had high reviews. So I made the journey over to experience this place that I have never tried before. I arrived at this small take out place, and man it was packed. Parking was a little difficult but I finally found one. The line moved quickly and the service was great. I placed my order and it came out fairly quickly. The prices were actually really good. When I got home and the family started to eat the chicken. Man they loved it. I loved it too. This is definitely one of the best fried chicken in Houston. If you are wanting fried chicken, don’t think about anywhere else — just go here. You will not be disappointed. Also note that they only take CASH.

The name of the restaurant doesn’t lie– seriously. It’s the #1 fried chicken place I’ve been to. Anywhere. All over the US. This is the best darn fried chicken there is. I don’t know what they do or how they do it… but DARN. It’s good. It’s kind of ghetto inside, but that doesn’t matter since it’s take out only. Fast, inexpensive, tasty, juicy, wonderful fried chicken. My mouth just watered thinking of it. Burgers are good too and the fried rice is delicious. Fried shrimp is OK though I prefer Blodgett Street Fish Market for shrimp(just down the street). If you are wanting fried chicken, don’t think about anywhere else — just go here. You will not be disappointed.

I’ve lived in the area for a few years and have always passed this place up! Let’s be real… it looks sketchy. BUT another thing I’ve always noticed is a line out of the door. Ordered a 6 piece wing dinner(fried rice & roll) and OMGAAAAAAHHHH, best fried chicken that I’ve had in a very long time. Perfectly seasoned, super crispy and juicy! The fried rice is awesome too. It is worth a try. Take cash because they don’t take cards

I tried this place for lunch on a Friday and for the love of God call your order in! It was packed for the lunch rush hour! I really enjoyed my meal, I got the 3 piece chicken and fries. The Chicken tasted amazing, It was fresh crispy fried chicken. It wasn’t dry or cold like most fast food chicken places. The area isn’t as bad as people say, just know that it’s not in the Galleria. Their menu also has a log to offer which I thought was cool. It’s not your one truck pony Chicken spot! I’m interested In trying their other items. Give this place a try, you won’t be disappointed! I’ve never actually physically been in this place, but one of my co-workers has brought me food from here a few times. The chicken of course is excellent. If you’re in the mood for something fried and delicious, this is your place. It comes with your choice of fried rice or french fries plus a roll. Everything is pretty tasty. However, my co-worker gave me some of her shrimp fried rice and the shrimp were not deveined. I know, I know, this isn’t a fancy place and maybe I’m being too high maintenance even expecting that but… I found it quite gross and ended up tossing all the shrimp from my rice. So all in all, I will probably be returning to this place(or continuing to tell my co-worker to bring me back food), but will stick to the chicken and french fries!

4 stars for food but 3 for service… averages out to 4 on Unilocal,ha. The ordering process: go up to the counter and tell them what you want then stand back against the wall to wait in their tiny tiny take-out only store. They literally have every permutation possible of leg, thigh, wing, shrimp, or fish(this made for a rather high pressure ordering situation, there were so many combinations of food it felt like a math problem). They also have some weird add-on rules listed(eg: to add one wing, it’ll cost you $ 1.09 but«extra chicken» costs $ 2? not sure what that meant). Some meals come with fried rice/roll/salad. The prices are really great for the amount of food you get so don’t spend too long trying to figure out the best combination for the price… they’re all great deals. The food is a solid 4 stars — I split my order with one other friend and we ordered one«3 leg, 2 thigh special»(came with 2 rolls) and one«fish with 4 shrimp, fried rice, and salad» combo(with 1 roll). The fried chicken was amazingly crispy and fresh(I wish I had ordered spicy, though) and the breading was divine. Surprisingly, I found the fried fish and shrimp to be even better than the chicken. The breading was so good on them — almost panko like. The sides were meh: fried rice was kinda tasteless but at least had lots of stuff in it(veggies, chicken), the iceberg lettuce salad was doused in Italian dressing, and the rolls were the typical white, store-bought rolls. The tartar sauce the fish came with tasted like sweet mayonnaise, kinda weird and bland. If I ordered again, I’d opt for something with fried rice if given a choice. Unfortunately, the wait was at least 25min for the two orders above. About 10 min into our wait, they told us that it would be another 10min for the wings/thighs, which was odd because it looked like there were plenty of wings/thighs sitting out under the heat lamp… at least 10 people ordered and got their food while we were waiting. Maybe none of them ordered wings or thighs(which seemed odd to me)? Normally it wouldn’t be a big deal, but there was no AC and it was super crowded inside(around 1:30pm on a weekday… this place must be a madhouse around noon). Another side effect of having super fresh fried chicken was that it burned holes through the styrofoam takeout containers. We were finishing our meals and noticed tons of burned holes in the styrofoam, which is concerning cuz… where did the styrofoam go?! did it vaporize? did we eat it? did it violate conservation of mass… oh well, it was worth it. I’d totally come back, albeit at a hopefully less crowded time(likely never from the looks of it). The two orders above cost about 12 bucks and could definitely last for more than one meal. Dunno if you can call ahead but if I could, I would.
