Southern Food, Eclectic Tendencies

In my family cookbooks were read like they were novels and recipes were exchanged with great expression, passion, hand gestures and, often, demonstration. Opinions on food, and there were many, were dished out freely. Mine is a southern heritage integrated with a lifetime of experimentation with different foods of both American regional and ethnic origins.

History

Established in 1968.

In 1968, Ouisie started a catering business she called The Traveling Brown Bag Lunch Company, which later evolved into Ouisie’s Table & The Traveling Brown Bag Lunch Company.

After fifteen successful years, she took a short hiatus. She decided to try her hand at restaurant consulting and a little writing but after just six years, the hiatus ended and the second Ouisie’s Table opened a stone’s throw from River Oaks and the Galleria. The new restaurant opened smoke free (a risk that raised quite a few eyebrows), in a large, splended palce that reflected her list of wishes that she was unable to carry out at the original location. Ouisie could finally provide teh right kind of space for events and special occassions; second and third generations are now celebrating their life’s milestones at Ouisie’s.

Meet the Business Owner

Elouise, aka Ouisie J.

Business Owner

After fifteen years on Sunset Boulevard tending to what had become my extended family of staff and customers, I chose to close and pursue other interests. After a six year hiatus and armed with all the wishes and wants collected during all those years, I set about identifying the elements I wanted for the new Ouisie’s here on San Felipe. I chose to create a setting reminiscent of houses I’ve loved and rooms that encouraged conversation, congeniality and comfort where one could enjoy good food and drink with friends, family and business associates.

I wanted the new Ouisie’s to continue to be the place where fond memories were formed and important life milestones were shared. It was my purpose to provide different dining venues to be enjoyed indoors and out for all kinds of occasions, meetings and celebrations.
