I’m rating Pace Plumbing(Mr. Rooter) one star not because the service they provided was less than adequate — basic work clearing a blockage in a pipe. The low rating is because their rather unsavory practice of being vague and aloof when discussing the average cost of a given expense. So to be very clear here(as their technician put it) «We charge $ 80 for me just to show up… anything I do after that is more and how much more is up to me…» Since I unsuccessfully tried looking for a point of reference with regard to rate before I called and the people handing the calls at their office refused to share anything beyond the $ 80 when I spoke with them… if you have a clogged toilet, you should expect to spend ATLEAST $ 150. The tech spent less than half an hour fixing the problem, which by my math means the hourly rate is north of $ 300. I’ll use someone else next time.

So i was not a customer of pace plumbing but i felt compelled to write a «review» based on what i saw from their employees. on july 21, 2015 approximately 3:45 during afternoon traffic headed northbound on 288, one of the employees in the pace plumbing van opened one of the doors and dumped a bunch of garbage onto the highway. this pissed me off so much that’s why im writing this. these trashy people dont deserve any business until they clean up their act.

We used Pace Plumbing last year to install a water meter. We dealt with Dorthy who was nice, friendly and I felt, very honest. She charged us what she had quoted over the phone, the work was done quickly and we were happy. So when we needed more plumbing work earlier this year we called again. This time we dealt with an employee named Robert and Mr. Pace. Robert quoted us $ 100 for the work. The crew showed up and did the work and then Robert demanded $ 250 more than the $ 100 we were quoted. Since the work was not completely done(he needed and additonal part) he said he would not come back if we didn’t pay up. Not wanting to have water shoot all over the house we called Mr. Pace who said he was the one who told Robert to charge us extra becuase«$ 100 wouldn’t cover it». This was minor work on a water heater. Mr. pace said Robert shouldn’t have quoted us $ 100. Really? Why is he giving quotes then? We felt we had no choice but to pay but I smelled a scam. Sure enough after all the work was done they called to say they would be charging us another $ 250 to cover the«city inspection fee» they are charged by the city. When we called the city water department they told us they do charge for an inspection fee but not for the work we had done. The woman we spoke to even looked up the Pace account to make sure they had not been charged on our behalf and they hadn’t. She then said«They know we don’t chrage an inspection fee for this kind of work.» I won’t use this company again(obviously).
