Specialties

ROA is a K-​12 school providing individualized education for students with a wide range of special needs in a private school environment in three distinct programs.

(A) Small student teacher ratios and specialized programming for those with learning differences, learning disabilities, unique learning styles, social skills needs, ADHD, autism and behavioral and emotional issues are provided.

(B) ROA has an international program and issues student visas for ESL students preparing for college. All of our graduates have been accepted to the college of their choice.

© ROA has a specialized summer camp for kids who need support, academic enrichment and fun! Credit recovery is also available.

History

Established in 1988.

River Oaks Academy was founded by the late Sandra Phares in 1988 and now Directed by Luis Valdes, PhD, since 2006. It moved to its current state-​of-​the-​art building in the late 90’s. ROA is a well respected and unique school built to offer specialized support and teaching methods to students and parents who need an individualized education program. It has long been an advocate for children with special needs. Its summer camp program has provided a fun place for kids with special needs to learn and grow in the summer. It has also helped many ESL international students reach their goal of entering college in the US.

Meet the Manager

Brenda G.

Manager

The school’s board director is Dr. Brenda Gardner-​Valdes. She received a doctorate in education and curriculum from Texas A&M University in 1987. She is the former director of special education for a large Houston area school district and has served as the director school programs of a local special needs school and treatment center. She has over 25 years experience teaching and administering in Texas Education Agency and California Department of Education approved schools. She brings to River Oaks Academy a wealth of knowledge and expertise on curriculum, administration, and special education.
