Established in 1978.

Since 1978, Shaftel Diamond Co. has been one of Houston’s most prominent diamond wholesalers, engagement ring & fine jewelry manufacturers and rare colored gemstone dealers. After earning a stellar reputation in the international diamond community, Shaftel Diamond Co. opened their jewelry store to the public in 2003 on the ground floor of Houston ‘s premier diamond and jewelry building located at 6222 Richmond Avenue, Suite 150.

Today, while Shaftel continues to supply the diamond and jewelry trade, they have expanded the business and added a full range of services to better accommodate the individual consumer as well; all this at prices consistent with the true wholesale market.

Manager

After graduating from the University of Colorado, Danny Shaftel officially joined the family jewelry business, Shaftel Diamond Co., while completing his degree as a GIA Graduate in Diamonds. As is the case with many family businesses, Danny’s responsibilities cover a broad scope including managing day-​to-​day operations, sales, buying, jewelry designing, PR & advertising, customer service and yes, even cleaning the kitchen. His patient, educational, never-​pushy approach to working with customers has earned him a solid following here in Houston. It is this openness and careful attention to customer service coupled with consistently strict quality standards and a keen eye for design that has been a cornerstone of Shaftel Diamond Co. since its inception in 1978. So whether you’re shopping for a diamond engagement ring or designing a unique custom jewelry piece for a loved one, there is no better jewelry store to visit in Houston.

I was looking for some diamond earrings for my wife and was impressed with the selection at Shaftel Diamond Company. The website drew us in and the showroom didn’t disappoint. They stock items that truly sparkle and epitomize good taste. I have been to many jewelry stores that just don’t have the same type of thoughtful selection. Other stores either have really cheap junk or jewelry that’s style is stuck in another decade. It is easy to tell that this is a family business when you walk in the door. The warm welcome they gave us made us feel like we were an extended member of their family. Danny knows his stuff and really explained to me the different types of gem stones and their respective qualities. My wife couldn’t be happier with the hoop diamond earrings we purchased. We are so glad we found a store that brings a little more sparkle to our lives.

My fiancé and I went here to get my engagement ring. One of the sales people (I think her name was Megan) spent almost an hour with us as we designed my ring. It would have been longer, but we had to end the appointment. She was very knowledgable, positive and patient.
My fiancé and I knew nothing about diamonds or precious stones and she carefully explained everything to us and gave me plenty of time to sit and stare at stones until I picked the one I wanted.
She was also very respectful of our budget and helped us get the best we could within our budget. We were aiming for $ 5,000, but willing to go over for something perfect, but she made me exactly what I wanted for $ 5,000 on the dot. She also helped me pick a stone on the large end of the 75 point range to avoid doubling the price of the stone to get a full karat. We were really impressed that we weren’t encouraged to go with a larger stone even though we were open to being flexible with our budget.
We will be returning to get our wedding rings from Shaftel.

Shaftel designed a rose gold and Morganite engagement ring. The design far exceeded our expectations. The service was amazing and everything was perfect. We will definitely only be visiting Shaftel for all of our future jewelry needs… first need wedding bands. And maybe some matching earrings! THANK YOU SHAFTEL!

Don’t go to this place for repairs. Asked for a ring to be resized with explicit request that the inscriptions not be affected. It returned damaged and we were accused that it was caused by us when it was reported to them. They couldn’t provide proof of any before & after notes of the quality of their work or condition of the ring, except stating that some lady checks the jewelry before leaving the store.
Although the owner made attempts to contact us, the trust was broken and can’t believe that they would think we would fabricate the situation.

We bought my husband’s wedding band here and were very happy with the service as well as the quality of the product we received. It was a bit strange finding the place (it’s in an office building) but their showroom was nice enough.
We had been shopping around at all the chains in the mall (easiest way to hit up the most at once) and were just not impressed with the quality of the rings for the price. They all seemed light and since you’re essentially buying gold…
Anyway, when we came to Shaftel, we were shown a nice selection of rings and found one that we immediately liked, but in tungsten carbide. «No problem,» they say, «we can make it in white gold for you in a few days.» And, to boot, if we ever have problems with the ring, all we have to do it bring it back and they will refinish it and make it like new. «It’s got our name on it, after all.» And last plus: great prices for the quality.
I felt like I was working with honest people and compared to other stores we went to, this was the nicest experience. I look forward to other purchases in the future.

So now that she said yes and we’re officially engaged, I can actually write a review for Shaftel Diamonds. There were not a whole lot of places with many Unilocal reviews but this was one of the few places that had some legit reviews. As noted the location is a bit weird, Shaftel Diamonds is in this big building down on Richmond with no signs or identifiers. I actually didn’t have an issue with crowds although I always went there during weekdays.
Before I started shopping around I tried to educate myself on the basics of diamonds (the four Cs: clarity, cut, color, carat). However, a lot of what makes the diamond special/​unique can’t be measured by specific criteria and it is more of a gut reaction. Danny Shaftel was the person who helped me out during my search. The great thing about Danny is that he wasn’t necessarily trying to sell me on a diamond because it had certain criteria nor was he trying to push a sale on me, unlike the first couple of places I visited. He would always show me the diamond first and have me judge it without any bias associated with the color/​clarity/​cut rating. Surprisingly there were plenty of diamonds that on paper didn’t sound like winners but they looked great. Danny was extremely patient with me and after 4 visits I finally was able to pick a diamond that looked amazing and was within my budget. I also picked a setting from the selection they had at the store, but they can work with you to design a custom setting. I was able to get 12 months of interest-​free financing through GE Money.
My experience with Shaftel Diamonds was just great. My now-​fiancée is *very* happy with the end result. I totally recommend Shaftel if you’re in the market for some bling.

Summary: A trustworthy jewelry store where you get a great value for great products

Upon walking into Shaftel, you are greeted with a small fridge that is packed with sodas and bottles of water. Perfect when you are stepping in from the hot Houston heat.
Depending on when you come, you may be greeted with a decent crowd. Once you find an associate to assist you, however, things go pretty easily. Keith and Danny Shaftel are very professional, but the other associates who work there are also knowledgeable in their own right. The fine young woman that has worked with my wife and I multiple times is also a Graduate Gemologist.
The selection and pricing at Shaftel is bar-​none. They are able to get their jewelry it at wholesale prices, and that discount is passed on to the customer. Moreover, the unique selection they have, combined with the high quality, makes this place a must-​stop over any of the crappy mall jewelry store places that you may find. I remember going into a Zale’s one time when first going engagement ring shopping and having a salesperson (who is working on commission) try and explain to us how a cloudy diamond gives it character. Uh, wrong! It makes it both less valuable and less attractive to look at. You won’t get such lies at Shaftel, as the staff is not working on commission.
In addition to engagement rings and wedding bands, Shaftel boasts a number of other fine options, such as watches and cocktail rings. They even offer three months of interest-​free financing via GE Moneybank. If you’re getting married anytime soon, or simply want to get your significant other a nice present, go to Shaftel.

Keith Shaftel of Shaftel Diamond Co. was easily the most professional and helpful person I could have ever chosen to do business with. I had a fairly uncommon engagement ring request and he took the time to insure that I would receive exactly what I had pictured in my head.
They didn’t have the specific size and color stone I was looking for but they definitely went well out of their way to locate and secure the perfect stone for me. Since I live in Austin, TX I thought I would have to make multiple trips down to Houston to insure that I was getting exactly what I wanted. They could not have been more accommodating. He was able to photograph each stone and send me emails with my different options.
The choice and quality Shaftel Diamond Co. offers is top notch. If you are in the Houston area, or anywhere in Texas for that matter, do yourself a favor and make Keith your jeweler. You will not be disappointed.

The management of this new location was kind enough to offer to host a wine tasting event for an alumni organization with which I’m involved. The store is located in the Rice Village shopping area with a pretty visible corner location. Like most other shops in the area, there are a limited number of parking spaces in front and then it’s street parking or the lot across the street. The owner told me they do a lot of custom pieces and from what I saw, they offer lovely jewelry and great, personal service. Nice interior (brand new store) feels upscale as a jewelry store should. Not a huge store but the size seems perfectly appropriate.
