Southwest Alternate Media Project, or SWAMP as it is affectionately referred to as, is one of the oldest non-profit organizations that promotes the creation and appreciation of film, video, and new media as art forms of a multicultural community. Since its inception in 1977, SWAMP has assisted filmmakers in their careers with the annual Business of Film Conference and cultivated film enthusiasts by showcasing independent films on The TERRITORY which airs on PBS. History
Established in 1977.
SWAMP is a non-profit organization that encourages a multicultural community to create and
appreciate film. We encourage the creation of film by offering: workshops, youth programs, film
conferences, screening, coverage services, competitions, grants and fiscal sponsorships. We encourage the appreciation of film by offering: screenings, events, salons, lectures, The Territory and a Kid’s Club. We serve to preserve the history of film in Houston as well as support the future of film culture in our region.
