T R Acupuncture & Herb Clinic

I made my first appointment for 4pm today and showed up on time. I was excited to get some relief for back pain. After sitting patiently in the waiting room for 20 minutes… I left with the hope I can find a provider who cares about my TIME and my well being.
If you like sitting in waiting rooms — this is a great place for you!

Amazing practice. Ms. Tang is a licensed MD in China and was invited to US by University of Texas Medical School to teach Acupuncture. She is very knowledgeable and her treatments helped both of our parents amazingly when traditional medicine did little for them.
Her office is perhaps not trendy, but it certainly isn’t dirty. She orders her needles directly from the source and they are used once, then disposed of. Unlike many acupuncturist who try to save money disinfecting them. (not a good idea)
Highly recommend and the one person who left a negative review I call out as being a liar. More than that, I would say they must either be competitors or racist who are trying to harm good sincere care providers reputations. Shame on whoever wrote what you know isn’t true.

Today was my second treatment for my back pain, I already felt a lot better after the first one. Like previous Unilocaler mentioned, the day after the treatment, I felt great.
I took Dr. Ruan’s suggestion taking some Chinese herb to eased my back pain, it helped. I paid $ 65 for 10 days.
Although the clinic’s décor is not as modern as others, their professionalism are for sure no doubt.

I’m so not the hippy dippy type but after no one was able to help with my lower back pain for months, other than a great massage that gave me relief for a day, I was deperate. Willing to try anything, I went to a chiropractor Monday. no help. Tuesday I stopped by here on a whim after having seen it for years next to whole foods. Kathy’s family have been Chinese medicine doctors, acupuncturists & herbalists for generations back to their first clinic in china that was opened in the 1930s. After one session, I am a believer. My back felt a little worse initially that day but by the evening it was 50% better. Yesterday, 75% better. I’m back today, 2 days after my first session to see if she help me with my chronic sinus infections & allergies. I’m in the thick of a new sinus infection from all the dust/​allergens kicked up during a move. Fingers crossed and update to come!

Legit. This stuff works. Sure, the place may be a hole in the wall– but they are awesome! So friendly and sweet. Know their stuff. Fast and efficient. I love coming!

I have been seeing Dr Kathy Tang since July for various reasons. With the fertility acupuncture treatments, I was able to get pregnant and will be expecting my first child soon! I still see her for treatments to help with the pregnancy, such as turning the baby from breech to head down position and the normal aches and pains that comes along with pregnancy.
She is a genuinely caring person who makes you feel comfortable. She has a lot of long term patients, which speaks for itself. They trust her to care for them for so long, so there must be something there.
The location is across the street from Whole Foods and next to a pet grooming place. The clinic itself is not super fancy, but I didn’t need that. I needed someone who is competent and caring.
I highly recommend her to all my friends who are looking beyond the traditional Western medicine.
Oh yea, they have Saturday hours which is a big plus for me!

I have been visiting this clinic for the past year, on the recommendation of two friends who have seen results. The clinic has many patients — not surprising, since Dr. Tang and Dr. Ruan’s family have been practicing Chinese medicine for decades/​generations. All of the patients who I have talked to are very happy with the effectiveness and high standards of treatment, the ease of scheduling an appointment, the genuine care and concern of the doctors, and the friendly and welcoming atmosphere. It’s also in a great location next to Whole Foods Market in the West University area, with easy parking. I highly recommend TR Acupuncture & Herb Clinic!

I am careful with superlatives, when it comes to health care, especially with alternative health care, but this clinic is so awesome, it is in a league of its own. If you like acupuncture, there is simply no one better in town. If you don’t know, whether you like acupuncture, then this is the place to try it and find out that you love it. They are the living proof that acupuncture can be gentle. Also, it is the one place I trust implicitly, when it comes to herbs. Where other places talk (and brag) about Chinese medicine, this clinic is the place where you get it, the best of the best. And I am not just talking about help with being stressed, having headaches, or other typical problems, with which we know that acupuncture works wonders. They have helped me, when standard western medicine diuretics gave me kidney stones, and they are the only ones, whose diabetes herbs actually work as promised. I am so grateful for their help over the last ten years, on a scale of 1 to 5 I give them a 7. Absolutely awesome.

I am a Doctor of Chiropractic (19 years) & also a Licensed Massage Therapist (13 years). I have personally worked with both Kathy Tang, L.Ac. and David Ruan, L. Ac since about 1997, not only for myself, but using their clinic as a common referral group.
I have found their work to be effective. Sometimes, it may be complimentary to the work I am providing for a patient or client. But, oftentimes it may be the *only* type of work the client or patient needs.
It is my opinion that different people need different types of work for different types of problems. I most always suggest acupuncture with Kathy & David as the «go to» place when the work I am providing is not getting down to the root of the issue.
I highly recommend them and have found both to be caring and kind — something that is very important when little needles are to be placed in your body. :)
Also, I’ve seen them provide good results for balance issues (post-​surgery), skin conditions, stress, sleeping related issues, chronic tiredness, and elbow pain.
Recently one of my massage clients saw Kathy for the «acupuncture face lift». I hadn’t seen this client for a while, and when she came in I was surprised how full her face appeared, and how much more relaxed she looked. I asked her what she had been doing to take care of herself (as she had been through a lot of recent stress), and she stated it was the acupuncture facial rejuvenation. I wish she had taken a before and after picture! I was quite amazed at the nice results and would have never thought it could change ones appearance as much as it did.

I’ve had a really good friend of mine swear by acupuncture in years past. I often just shrugged her suggestions off though. But a few days ago, I was suffering from a really sore muscle in my shoulder and ended up with a stiff and sore neck because I slept on it funny. It was so uncomfortable it was too difficult to sneeze or check my blind-​spot while changing lanes. Yuck!
So, I gave TR a call, and they are conveniently located near the Whole Foods on Holcombe. Acupuncturist Kathy Tang knew immediately that it was my neck since I had trouble turning my head. She placed needles in a trail starting at the top of my head to the end of my shoulder. I rested for 45 minutes under a heating lamp. After carefully removing my needles, she instructed me to take some herbal medication. I noticed a little difference in my neck and suggested that I return to her the next day.
After the second acupuncture session, I noticed a huge difference! While still slightly sore, the pain in my neck started to clear up. The day after my two sessions, I was able to participate in my regular workout routines. If you have ever doubted alternative medicines, I would recommend considering acupuncture. It definitely worked very effectively for me.
