The Digital Run

I’m sorry. I really just had to post on this again. Apparently our feedback has finally gotten to the «CEO» of the event and we all received an apology email. Although I’m all for the idea of apologizing, I just had to share these laughable perks we were offered with:
” Will have an opportunity to collect a shirt if they did not receive one
Will receive a highly discounted rate of entry to another nighttime race we are in the process of working with so hopefully you can get a better experience for 2013.
Will receive a 50% discount code for The 2014 The Digital Run Houston. We want to show you that this event is not indicative of events we produce.“
Yes, because I totally want to stand in line again to get a Tshirt that’s going to promote your race.
And yes I would love to spend another $ 25 per person plus $ 10 parking, plus 2 hours of my life to go to another crappy race.
Seriously just give us a refund.

I am pretty sure that in the end this was a scam. Like the other reviewers said, it was poorly organized, from packet pick-​up to race, to «after-​party.» My biggest complaint, however, is that the race was literally only about 2.4 miles long! Scam scam scam.

I wish there was a no-​star option. Seriously.
First, the packet pick up was a huge buzz kill. An hour of my life gone… and that is just time spent waiting for my bib. It would have been a longer wait had I stayed for the different check ins for the shirt and swag. Then, when I brought the lack of efficiency to a volunteer, she began yelling at me, complaining that she had been there since 10am… blah blah blah.
Second, the actual run itself was poorly lit and looked nothing like the photos shown on Groupon. Parts of the run were not lit up and instead of a 3K, we only ran just over 2K. False advertisement much? The actual race started over half an hour late so we were all standing around in the cold while the event planners took photos of the annoyed crowd. And one water station ran out of water! RAN OUT OF WATER on a race. Ridiculous.
What is even more disheartening is that participants have been voicing their complaints online, but I have not seen an apology from the organizers.

This review is based solely on my personal experience and reflect my personal opinions. Your experience may be completely different.

To date this is the worst 5K I have ever participated in.
Disorganized, poorly staffed, cones at night are a hazard especially in complete darkness, music looped, speakers not even working in some areas of the run, and to top it all off not even a full 3.1 miles.
To start it took 30 minutes to cross the starting line, for a 5K that’s completely ridiculous. I cannot state how much I didn’t care that Houston had sold 6k tickets to this event a whole 1K more than Phoenix, believe me I could tell and your lack of preparation for that many people was pretty evident.
Digital or like beginning of the digital age? Needless to say lots of hype and little amazement. The cones, here is a tip you could have easily placed lights on the cones not only for safety factor but hey it was supposed to be a lit up event, most of the lights I saw were the ones runners adorned. They had a single song on loop in one area, a non functioning speaker in another area.
The single star rating is merely for the sheer fact that I got a deal for this run through Groupon, only plus side to this whole thing.
This was all kinds of digital fail.
