University of Houston-Clear Lake

Very nice campus, always a lot of people of campus regardless of time. Professors are good as long as you apple yourself. Lots of wildlife around and campus police are very strict about 30 MPH!

I am currently a student at UHCL and will be graduating the summer of 2016. I’m not a huge fan of the campus, it’s a little outdated in the bayou building where most of the academic courses are held. I work full-​time so UHCL has been very accommodating with online classes and night courses as well but it feels like a big community college to me. If you’re looking for the university experience, I would not suggest this school. If you’re looking to finish up soon sign up! They also have a Pearland campus

We’ve been here a few times for paperwork for the upcoming school year. The campus is HUGE (as most colleges are).
It’s always well kept. There are a few area they seem to be working on while we were on this visit. Otherwise, nicely kept.
Many of the room numbers don’t match up with the wall directory. I’m guessing with a few of the changes they are working on could be the reason for this. Just ask someone who works there and you can usually find it without any issues.
Just a tip to students: get your classes as close together, if you can. To walk across this campus will wear you out!
They have a wildlife habitat on campus. It’s nicely taken care of. On more than one occasion we have seen deer. They have signs that there are other wildlife that can be seen, including alligators, so be prepared.
Parking is all paid, meaning bring cash if you are a visitor. We paid $ 2.50 for an hour, just to give you an idea. Of course staff and student can get their passes… $ 50 for each semester. I think this is about the worst part of this campus.
Otherwise a good place to be a student. I know many people who have also graduated from here and they highly recommend it!

This is a nice school. Very quiet campus. Great for studying. Quietest library. Great natural scenery. I graduated with my Bachelors from here. The curriculum I took definitely needs updating. The teachers are decent and challenging but some of the teachers I had were hard to understand since they couldn’t speak English that well. This is definitely one of the better Universities in Houston. This school is a commuter school and is for juniors, seniors, and grad students.

Hint here: I am not student here. I only came here to study since the local coffee shop was full during finals.
The campus is huge. The student center is a lot newer than the library. The library however is outdated, but it has this cool outdated look to it. They got this huge tree plant and all these cool plants on the first floor. The building does have a slight odor since it is an old building, but once you stay in there for a while the smell dissolves away.
Obviously no one noticed I wasn’t a student and so it wasn’t a problem for me to study here. The studying actually paid off though.
I love the scenery when driving upon the campus – its so peaceful.

Beautiful campus. Wonderful professors. Small classrooms. Professors are super helpful and will guide you down the career path you want to go.

I just finished my MBA requirements here and am leaving with a great feeling of having enhanced my skill set. The professors for my program were relatable, extremely knowledgeable, and more than willing to go the extra mile to make sure I understood the curriculum. The classes were challenging, especially since I work full time, travel for business, and took 3 courses per semester, but not to the point where I wanted to throw the towel. I was accepted into 3 different programs but ultimately chose this one because of the convenience of being close to home and work, and the feedback from past alumni. Based on my experience, I have no doubt I made the right choice.
The campus is very serene and well-​kept and I always have a sense of safety when I’m here. The student lounge is a decent size and offers different amenities to help you unwind like table tennis. A major plus is that Food Trucks have recently started coming to campus, broadening the dining choices. Just this past week the Waffle Bus was outside of the Delta Building. Apparently the visiting food truck is becoming a regular fixture.

This place is an oasis of green space and great minds. I am a graduate student in the Humanities, and my money has been well-​spent considering the amount of learning, inspiration, and friendship I have found here.

hmm campus is still fairly new so a lot of open space.

when the weather permits, i advise people to go out for a run around the campus.
the food in the cafeteria is pretty good and decent pricing.
they have soda machines all over the campus, and the professors are all helpful.
however, just like any classes you take on any college, do your research of the professor on
they have a good and helpful student center.
they have a tiny gym though.
I went to both the main campus and this campus, and i love them both!

DO NOT GO TO SCHOOL HERE!!! THIS PLACE IS A SCAM!
I applied, was accepted and declined because I got into another school closer to home. No big deal. After this I keep getting emails saying I have advising appointments that I did not schedule, so I called: «we’re very sorry ma’am, you’re just still on the mailing list. I’m removing you right now» — No more emails, then come the letters saying I owe the school money because apparently I registered for classes and did not pay them. Not only does this seem like a HUGE SCAM FOR MONEY — but I don’t know any other university that will let you register for class and then not drop you for non-​payment almost immediately after classes start, if not sooner. I haven’t set foot in Houston in 7 years and not only have I talked to every department on campus with NO HELP (multiple calls with zero call backs after they say omg, thats horrible let me figure this out and call you back), they’ve managed to put a hold on my account at my REAL school so I can’t get my financial aid, refunds or register for classes until I pay this fraudulent charge.
So lets recap, folks… they’ll ignore you if you don’t want to go to school there, make appointments for you and overload your email, register you for class without your permission and then charge you for said classes that you didn’t agree to be charged for (because you’re not a student there and you live 6 hours away) AND THEN not only report Fs on your permanent transcript (because you can’t go to class and pass if you don’t even know you’re a student somewhere) but also send you bills months later because apparently they’re the only school in Texas that will let you go to class without paying for a semester up front.
Thanks, University of Houston Clear Lake — now it’s going to take me an extra semester to graduate because your hold has prevented me from registering from classes at my actual school and now they’re all full.

So I’m in my first semester of school here for my graduate MBA program. I am taking my courses online. This is the first time I have taken courses online but their system seems to be fairly simple to use. The courses are ran through webct and it seems very organized. The professors answers your questions fast and are very helpful. It’s not your traditional type of schooling but it’s one my only options since I’m working full time during akward hours.

Now that I’m in the middle of my third semester here, I thought I’d spruce up the ol’ review. Let me just mention that we are in deer season (no, not the hunting kind!) on campus and pretty much everyday is like a drive through a protected forest. I see anywhere from three to ten deer on a daily basis and am just intrigued at how close to campus they get. I’ve yet to see any of the alligators, but perhaps that’s because I’m smart enough to stay away from the water. Just maybe.. .
As for the education side of things, I’m continuously impressed at the caliber of professors here. While there are the obligatory idiots in every class (the ones that make you ashamed to actually attend the same university as such morons), the quality of education is just fantastic – especially considering the price and flexibility of the scheduling.
I originally came to the University of Houston Clear Lake because of the ability to take night classes while working full time. Thanks to their options, I’m over halfway done with my Masters and I never had to drop below a full time work schedule – not bad. While my initial trepidation to the lack of prestige aren’t necessary all gone, I’ve come to the realization that I’m actually learning quite a bit and all without compromising too much.
My main complaints with the school rely in some of the nighttime issues that I have. 1) Summer school options in the evening are just plain pathetic. Since this is a non-​traditional school, I figured I’d have more options available to me. Nope. There was ONE literature grad course in the evening. One! I’m assuming that they’re basing the classes on lack of teachers wanting to teach over the summer and the mentality that most of the students are actually high school teachers on summer break. 2) When you take night courses and dinner isn’t an option, keep the on campus food options open later! You can only eat from a vending machine so many times before you want to shoot yourself. 3) Figure out how to keep the campus police effective without being creepy. Countless times I’ve had a campus police officer follow me in his car as I walk to my car. When it is 10 p.m. and dark, I don’t want anyone following me – especially in a car! That scares me more than the possibility of some mugger hiding in the bushes, thank you very much!
All in all, I feel like I’m getting a pretty solid education at a bargain price with great hours. Couple that with the gorgeous campus and that makes me a happy camper.
