UYE – 2B or Not 2B @ Bombay Pizza

Lou organized a great UYE.
It was a wonderful idea to go somewhere to grab a quick bite before the Elite event. They always say you should eat before these things, and the pizza at Bombay was delicious.
My wife and I enjoyed talking to everyone, and it was very convenient to the Elite event. Nice work Lou!

I came by the UYE since it was conveniently near the Springbok and I had an hour to kill. Plus I like Lou. I think I would have gone to Bombay that night regardless of whether there would be a UYE because I enjoy their pizzas even if the quality has depreciated since the first time I tried it. (mainly the crust is soggy even when freshly delivered to your table).
Entering the restaurant, I immediately heard inquiries whether Downtown was safe, and their cars were safe where they were parked. I snarked back that I felt safer here than I do driving through Chinatown. I didn’t recognise anybody other than Lou so I went about my business ordering as if it was a regular trip to the Bombay Pizza. I met a nice couple at my table and talked to them about my travels and reviews. Soggy pizza consumed and the hour quickly went by…

Lou C had the forethought to set up a UYE both before and after the YEE at Springbok so more people got to check out Bombay pizza and hang out with other Unilocalers. Since I work nowhere near downtown, I went to the one afterwards.
We put together a number of high top tables to accommodate the group. Sandy H and I split a pizza with half Saag Paneer and half Mitul’s Masala. I especially enjoyed the cracker like crust. Other Unilocalers joined along the way and Lou, in his regular fashion, had takeaways for us. Good stuff all around.

I can’t take credit entirely for organizing this successful UYE. Only a few weeks prior to YEE, I mentioned my thoughts to my Unilocaler friends on Facebook and finalized ideas with 5W’s (basic elements of an event). Special thanks to Chris C, for the important tips on Happy Hour before 7; Greg F, who couldn’t make it, for Bombay Pizza choice; and Farrah for the publicity via RSVP emails.
There were total of 20 attendees (counted by how many trinkets I handed out). I appreciate a few came to both pre– and post –YEE at The Springbok nearby.
I didn’t notice a couple of things until afterwards: post a sign for the UYE area and tell the restaurant about this event. In reality, UYE is a simple meet-​up — accurate guest count is a challenge. By looking at «I’m in» on the event pages, I didn’t think of it as a crowd. But I was wrong. Unilocalers filled up first half of dining room.
Suzie, the manager told me, «repeat this tomorrow» with a big ‘o smile. She said they had to divert staff to help out during the happy hour. She also revealed a secret of the black tarp behind us. I look forward to their dining room expansion when I return with my future UYE here.

Lou did a great job of choosing this place for a Unilocal pre– and post-​party. Since the Unilocal event took place around evening time, a number of us were getting off of work anyway. If only I didn’t have a few more errands to run, I would have made the pre-​party. Anyways, I did get a chance to hang around after our event took place.
Moving along, having been to Bombay Pizza in Sugar Land, I was familiar with their vegan options… as far as pizza goes. However, I was unfamiliar with their desserts. Since I came in as they were about to shut it down, there were no pizzas :-\ I kind of brought that on myself though. Even then, their customer service was superb! I asked what vegan options were still available and their Gulab Jamun was recommended to me. Since I don’t have much of a sweet tooth, I didn’t know what to expect. Good thing because it reminded me of how pancakes used to taste like (haven’t had a pancake in years — they have eggs :-\).
When in the downtown area, this is a place I will check out again. Not sure how they are on weekends, but be sure to check them out before 10pm. To elaborate more on their customer service, not only were they nice, helpful, and overall friendly, but they have a good sense of humor too! We enjoyed some great laughs.

Convenient location– just down the street from The Springbok — delicious pizza, AND both a before and after elite event? The post-​UYE was perfect for those who couldn’t get out of work earlier that afternoon.
Lou had a few tables pulled together for the Unilocalers coming and going — I was on the end by Rachel, Belly, and Vincent (nice to meet you, guys!). It was a great turnout and Lou even had some goodies to pass out!
I really look forward to the other events Lou has planned!

Lou C, is one of the most organized Unilocalers I know. He plans all his UYEs down to all of the details. He arrived early and held down a corner for all of the guests. By the time I had arrived there was already 5 or so people. Me, Chris, and Cherry split a large pizza. It was great company, and one of the best UYEs I have been to in awhile. It’s hard to come together but yet Lou makes it so easy that people come to his. Glad to see Unilocalers outside of an official event, especially over a nice dinner spot. Props and hopefully I’ll be able to attend more of his UYEs down the line!

I missed the pre-​event, but I was able to swing by for the post Unilocal Elite event. My 1^st time meeting Lou C, and boy was he a gracious host. goodie bags and future plans were offered. I’ll have to partake in one of these future downtown food-​crawl UYE’s.

Shout out to Lou C. for throwing this UNofficial Unilocal event. Yup, I had to emphasize on the unofficial part because Lou C. personally went out of his way to throw not one but TWO UYE’s for pre– and post– Unilocal Elite event at the nearby Springbok.
I attended both UYEs and I had fun both times. Lou had wisely chose Bombay Pizza Co. for the UYEs because not only does this place have an excellent overall review, but this place is also only about a block away from the YEE.
I arrived here for the first UYE around 6:20 pm. PLENTY of parking on the streets around this time. I parked only a half a block away on Walker, East of Main Street. Plenty of parking in front and behind my car. I also saw plenty of street parking West of Main street on Walker.
As soon as I walked in, Lou C. waved at me and I could see the Unilocal crowd had already gathered. There was a pretty good turnout of both familiar and unfamiliar faces. I said hi to a few people, ordered my pizza, ate, mingled, before everybody decided to leave for the YEE.
After the YEE, I decided to make my way back to the UYE. Different crowd of people (although some of the people that had shown up at the first one came back) but it was another good turn out. Even our Unilocal ambassador, Farrah A. made it out to the second UYE.
Didn’t order anything this time around, but it was pretty cool to have a place to hang out with some of your Unilocal buddies while letting my buzz die down a little. I spent about an hour there before leaving home. All in all, it was a great event. And I want to say thank you again to Lou C. to organize it.

Lou C is an awesome Elite Unilocaler. He not only planned a pre– and post-​Elite Event UYE, but he brought goodie bags and event printed out an itinerary for future UYEs he has in the works.
AND I finally got to check out Bombay Pizza Co, which I’ve had bookmarked for yeeeeaarrrrssssss.

This review is for the YEE after party, since I didnt make it to the pre-​party. I had a great time at this UYE event. It was my first one and didn’t really know what to expect. I got invited last minute by Lou even though I knew about the event but wasn’t originally planning to go.
He picked a very convenient location to the YEE for the night and it was a pretty good turn out. Him and I actually shared a pizza together so that was nice since I didnt want a whole one myself. Glad I got to know a few more people at this event that I hadn’t had a chance meeting at other more formal events.
He even handed out some swag just for attending!
