Weslayan Café

Let me say first and foremost, the ambiance is eh. It’s a bit rundown, which considering the area, I don’t expect that. That’s where I deducted a star.
The food and service however, was phenomenal. The gentleman working and taking orders, was extremely polite and courteous. Very helpful.
The food was delicious. I ordered migas and added bacon and avacado. It was great! Some of the best migas I have had. And it was a very generous portion. I would definitely go back! It’s a must try, for breakfast at least, because that’s when I went!

If you’re seeking for something off the beaten path, something special, something unique, you’d better hurry with a visit to Weslayan Café. Me and my husband have been to this place like 3+ times and truly enjoyed their bacon and pancakes with eggs, chorizo migas and the drinks. I used to come for migas to Black Walnut Café, but this place really has a chance to beat it! I could have rated Weslayan Café with the maximum stars, but the place is too pricey. The next time I am in the neighborhood, I’ll drop in for sure, but I’m not ready to give them 5 stars for now.

Nice and quiet for breakfast!!! Price-​wise is awesome!!! Love coming here for breakfast to relax before a long hard day at work!!! Amazing place… Employees are so nice and very helpful!!! The food here is AMAZING!!! You can’t go wrong with anything on their menu. The only issue I have is parking but they have a parking garage so that’s nice!!! This place gets 5 stars from me…

Visiting from out of town and looking for a decent, affordable, and would work with my food preferences all within the 3 mile radius our hotel shuttle will take me to. I prefer paleo or at least gluten free diet and this delivered.
I had an omelet with meat and full of vegetables. They were generous with the contents of both meat and vegetables. They also had real sea salt on the table instead of the regular not so tasty salt. It was about $ 9.00 with tax. The service I received was friendly and prompt.
The inside isn’t much, but I’m more interested in my food choices and quality. It was pretty quiet which I liked. The only thing I would say could make it better for me is having organic options, but I’m sure that would increase cost.
I would recommend this place for breakfast.

All it takes is one visit to make the decision if you’re going to come back or not. And I’ll just cut to the chase. I won’t be coming back.
I thought the place would be cozy option to get some breakfast or lunch from time to time. Maybe it is. But maybe it isn’t. I dropped in on a Tuesday afternoon. The place was quite dead. The environment was some at rundown as well. The menu is basically limited to burgers, wraps, and salads. Nothing special.
The guy behind the counter was a Hispanic guy. Although I knew he spoken English, he insisted on speaking back to me in Spanish. I politely told him back in Spanish that it’s inappropriate to keep speaking Spanish when I haven’t made the gesture to do so.
My food came out quickly, and didn’t taste too bad. But not quick enough to stop me from finishing this review. The burger wasn’t amazing, but at least it was satisfying.
Although that’s to be expected when you pay 11 bucks for a basic burger combo.
Long story short, there’s nothing special about this place. And given the location, there’s hundreds of other options to explore.

We were in the area and looking for a good place to eat on Unilocal.We tried Weslayan Café for breakfast at about 9:30. On the way there I drove right past it, so we had to go around the block. It is in the same plaza as Chase, which is why I missed it. There weren’t any cars and when walked in, we were the only people at first.
When we went up to the register there was a paper menu that we looked over and figured what we wanted. We ordered 2 chorizo, egg, and cheese tacos along with french toast and two drinks and the total was about $ 15. The guy taking the order was nice.
The guy taking our order brought our food to the table and it was nice and hot. The tacos were delicious and the salsa gave it a nice little kick. I actually wanted to order another one, but didn’t want to wait. The French toast was a huge portion and was good as well.
When we were done we took our trash and threw it in the trash can by the door and put our plate and basket on the rack. The guy told us thank you for coming and then we left.
Would we go back? Yes! The food was delicious and the staff was friendly. The only thing that we didn’t like was the slightly moldy smell in the restaurant. Other than that everything was great.

If you like cream cheese, you don’t have to ask for extra like at Starbucks where they sometimes cheat you, these people LOAD IT UP ! My mouth is watering just thinking of them ! They toast them great! They have sweets and meats for anything you want with your bagel ! Give it a try !

Stumbled in here while visiting Houston to grab some lunch and was not disappointed. Cute little café and staff was super friendly. They have a variety of burgers, sandwiches, wraps, and salads. They also let you sub chicken or turkey for beef on any burger. Highly recommend the Lite Southwest burger with chicken and seasoned fries with ranch. Will be back next time I visit Houston.

After reading all the wonderful reviews, I was really looking forward to giving this place a try… gotta say I was not impressed.
I visited during lunch time and tried the Wesleyan Chicken Salad on sourdough bread and chips on the side.
Down #1: When I went to go open my chips, they were stale. On further inspection, I realized that the bag had previously been opened. While I understand that this is probably a factory mistake, it was unfortunate that the bag was put up for sale. The cashier quickly changed out the bag, but it was a rough first impression.
Down #2: The bread was not toasted nearly long enough, and was still almost cold. Kind of disappointing.
Up #1: There was plenty of seating available and the food came out quick.
Up #2: The actual chicken salad was great.
Up #3: The price
I’ll likely come back and try the Weslayan Café again (especially for their burgers that seem to be so good), but the sandwiches get a thumbsdown from me.

Great first impression and the BEST BUrger I’ve paid for — like EVER! (I’m usually disappointed and comment that I make more flavorful burgers at home…) I found this place on Unilocal of course and was immediately pleased by the awesome prices and array of menu options. I decided to get a ¹⁄₃ lb med. Well Angus beef with cheddar, added a fried egg, bacon and avocado (w/​sweet potato fries of course!) Every item was cooked to perfection and as you can see from my food porn, tasted as great as it looked. Service was quick. Free WiFi on point and I enjoyed chatting with Steve about how much he loves tons of garlic and he suggested (and offered) a sample of their yummy seasoned fries. I can’t wait to get back for brunch and more ;)

Craving dumplings and didn’t want to travel to Chinatown. Found this place on Unilocal off Weslayan. It did not disappoint! The breakfast burrito came with an In house salsa that was really tasty as well.

Love this place! Breakfast tacos are really good and lunch is even better. Staff is very nice and call you by your name. Is a great place to have around the corner from my office.

First time to Weslyan Café and was pleasantly surprised. The food was good. We order two chorizos, potatoes and cheese tacos and one potato, egg, tomato, sausage and cheese taco. All came out great… the store employees in were really nice and attentive! Will be back to try lunch one day!

It’s no bad place, but I can’t name it any great or elegant place. They have small hall, there is many tables for customers, but basically all décor very simple. But here is one thing, that safe this place from the lowest level. This is Garden Burger and I was on Wednesday and there was also good a soup of the day. It was fresh and yummy, it means, that I on the whole was satisfied my visit with them. Also near is parked, I was lucky and can find a free spot for my car, just parking is small and I think free spots there is not always. May be I will return here to taste others dishes.

This is an amazing restaurant. They use the best ingredients and their burgers and wraps are phenomenal. I’ve recommended this restaurant to many people and they have all loved it. The downsides is that during lunch time the line can get pretty long and they are only open till 2:30 so sometimes when I’m craving a burger at 4 it doesn’t work out. Overall if you want a good, moderately healthy lunch this is the place for you.

Breakfast? Get the French toast. Lunch? Burger and sweet potatoe fries. Also, their food and service is consistently excellent!

Oh my gosh, stopped by in the pouring rain to find warm spicy goodness in the Puerco en Chile Rojo. Masterful creation of flavor.

This is an inconspicuous little place nestled across from an office building. It would get three stars if it weren’t for the great dumplings! (So often I used to find myself wanting some but not feeling like making the trek out to my favorite spots in Chinatown).
I had a juicy cheeseburger, so big I didn’t finish it (I think they’re ¹⁄₃ pound burgers). I didn’t care for the bread, which was maybe an egg-​type bun and super huge. It came with regular fries, which weren’t anything special; I wish I’d asked for the seasoned ones instead as they looked amazing. I also tried the dumplings that my mom ordered. It’s true that they’re expensive relative to Chinatown prices, but the pan fried ones were flavorful bursts of porky perfection!
They’ll bring your order to your table, and there’s parking directly out front, which is nice. I also liked the interior which has plenty of tables where you could sit and do a bit of work or just enjoy a coffee with a friend.
If you’re in the Highland Village area and want a casual bite, this is a nice option.

I was visiting Houston — went to several breakfast places with high ratings. This place is the best food quality/​price combination. Great omelettes and pancakes! The only suggestion I would give is to have real maple syrup available at an additional charge.

Went down for breakfast after reading through countless great reviews about this place and I got to say, I wasn’t disappointed at all! Excellent food at an affordable and reasonable price. We ordered the Breakfast plate and the Alex plate. Both breakfast sets had generous servings and were served up to us very quickly. Would recommend anyone to head down for breakfast or brunch if you happen to be around the area.

Fresh and fast food that come at a good price. The breakfast was delicious with large portions. The service was very friendly. I only had the omelet and break fast tacos here, but they were both very delicious. Excited to come back to try other items or lunch.

Ordered Breakfast plate and Garden Omelet and 2 coffees = $ 22
Breakfast Plate: 2 scrambled eggs, 2 bacon, 2 pancakes (no potatoes/​no toast) — no extra charge to sub for pancakes. The pancakes were big — the size of the whole plate. Sweet and yummy. Bacon was thick and crispy.
Garden Omelet: spinach, tomato, onion, avocado, thin chicken deli meat, parmesan, fruit (no potatoes/​no toast), tasty and healthy. Fruit was cantaloupe and watermelon.
2 cups of coffee — Katz coffee. Nothing special. Self serve from airpot.

At first I was initially disappointed because I went here expecting brunch. I saw something on Unilocal that said this location had a brunch menu. When I arrived it was only lunch. They did not have a brunch menu. So, I ended up ordering their southwestern burger. I consider myself a burger connoisseur. I’ve been a member of burger clubs in the past hunting down some of the best burgers in Houston. I was shocked at how delicious the burger was.
After finishing it, I was disappointed that it was gone. I wanted another. I wanted to get the burger a five star, but there are two things that went against it. First, they asked me how I wanted my Patty cooked. I asked for medium. It came to me well done. A location should ask you how you want your burger cooked and then not serve it to you how you requested. Second, the burger was supposed to come with jalapeños. Although it was delicious without the jalapeños, because it was supposed to come with it and it was absent, I Gotta take away points from that also.
In the end, if I’m in the area I will definitely stop for this burger again. It’s not the best in Houston, but in my opinion it’s probably in the top 10.

Great migas with potatoes. They also change it up for lunch. The dumplings are great and the veggie burger doesn’t fall to far behind.

Not just an ordinary office building grill. The bacon cheeseburger burger I ordered was fresh flavorful cooked-​to-​order awesomeness.

Fast, cheap, and good.
Came for lunch, and it wasn’t too packed. We ordered the lite southwestern regular and chicken and a side of fries. Of course the regular burger was better, but the chicken was good, too. Seasoned fries are yummy.
Dumplings seemed like an odd menu item, but it seems the owners are Asian. We ordered some pan fried pork dumplings, which took a while, but that’s means they cooked it correctly. Some restaurants will boil the dumplings then fry it, but they actually fried their homemade dumplings. I didn’t like the sauce much, but the dumplings were good.

Unassuming joint for breakfast and lunch. No crowds, nice folks work here, fresh quality food.
Burrito is great value at $ 4.50.
Migas and Marie’s breakfast sandwich also looked delicious on nearby tables (don’t judge me for stalking my neighbors food, I’m doing it for you!) and the Rosemary potatoes and fruit sides looked surprisingly good and fresh.
Coffee is bottomless and self-​serve. Freshly squeezed OJ tastes fresh indeed.
There isn’t a ton of space and aren’t a ton of tables, but there were plenty for the crowd here on a Saturday morning at 11:30. I wouldn’t come with a group much larger than 4.
I’ll be back when I want delish brunch with no lines and a great price.

This is one of those spots that you would drive-​by and not think twice — especially on a Saturday morning. The prior reviews indicate that it is in a office complex, which are correct — don’t be lulled away because of this.
The staff was super friendly and it was not jam-​packed like other breakfast/​brunch places on a Saturday.
The menu was basic, but good. I had the Weslyan Breakfast — great. I loved their black beans. The only suggestion that I would make is to include a soufflé cup of salsa for the eggs — would make it extra yummy.
If you are in Upper Kirby/​Greenway, give it a try.

Even though I’ve always seen Weslayan Café on the way to Costco and stuff, I’ve never actually eaten here because the menu looked rather generic and not too interesting to me. I’m glad I came here though, because I was very pleasantly surprised!
We came on a Saturday morning for brunch, and there was no one in line, there were plenty of spaces inside, and the atmosphere was just super relaxed and homey. I didn’t feel anxious or rushed like how I feel at other popular brunch places, where the line is out the door and the place is packed.
We ordered with the owner (at least I think he was the owner) at the counter, and he was really nice and let me get 2 half sides with my migas instead of a full side of one thing. I got my migas with black beans and rosemary potatoes ($ 6.75). It also comes with 2 flour tortillas, but I bet you could ask for corn tortillas if you wanted to!
We didn’t have to wait long before the food came out, and my mouth dropped open when I saw it. The plate was completely full with steaming eggs, potatoes, and black beans. It smelled amazing even though my nose was congested from being sick. I stuffed my tortilla with the eggs and black beans, topped it off with their homemade salsa, and my taste buds and belly were fully satisfied.
My friend also ordered some dumplings ($ 6 for 8) to share because we heard that their dumplings were really good. It might seem weird that they would have dumplings here, but I think the owner is Asian so it makes more sense. The dumplings took a while to come out, but they tasted homemade and authentic. I don’t think I can say that they’re the best dumplings I’ve ever had, but they were pretty decent!
I love that Weslayan Café is an escape from all the brunch craziness that has overtaken Houston. The prices are very reasonable, and the atmosphere and food are comfortable and just make you feel at home :). I would love to come back again and try some of the other items on their menu.

Very solid breakfast place. Seems like a family own place that caters to a lot of regulars. Here is what I tried:
Garden omelet (4.5÷5) Even though it had no meat, the tomato, avocado, onions, and spinach were actually more flavor than most other omelets I’ve had before. I got it with a side of onion potatoes and fruits. Everything worked so well together. The omelet wasn’t too oily or bland, definitely recommend it if you are looking for a balanced breafast.
Weslayan Fix (⁴⁄₅) This one is with chicken and other veggies with jalapeño scrambled together along with egg white. This is a good healthy option if you are looking for flavor without feeling too guilty. This one I had with the rosemary potatoes which I thought was actually not as good as the onion potatoes. But still a very solid dish.
I really do recommend this place for breakfast, especially a low key one with family. The coffee is also good here. However, when I was here it was really cold for some reason, but otherwise definitely a fan.
(Note: it showed up on my search for coffee shop with free wifi — it is actually not a great study place. Breakfast and brunch is very solid though!)
