Great place to go for lunch, especially if you work downtown! The placement of this restaurant is clever– it’s just off of Smith St and not too far from its sandwich-competitor Jason’s Deli. Not a lot of people know about this place, yet it is always busy; the lunch crowd comes in at around 11:30 so try to get in before then– it can be tough to even get a table at times! Back on topic. The food here is delicious– their sandwiches are made with a well-toasted, glazed bun that appears to be a homemade style(the pictures here show it’s deliciousness quite well). I can speak for the Zero, the Ham, and the Roast Beef Sandwiches, and all are equally great. One downside, the sandwiches don’t fill me up, and I find myself quite hungry a couple hours later. Nonetheless, it’s great place for a little«cheat» lunch, and I find myself coming here over Jason’s Deli more often than not.

This was my first time here and I was happily surprised! It looks like a regular mom and pops sandwich shop, but the ham and cheese sandwich was delicious. The bread was definitely my favorite part. I just wish it came with a little more meat and cheese on the sandwich. The cashier was super friendly!

Very friendly staff! I had a Smoked turkey and cheese sandwich and it was and the bread is awesome. Great places downtown and this is one of them.

This food has the secret ingredient that you won’t find at most places. LOVE. You can tell that this owner takes time and pride in this product. Worth the visit.

Among the sea of chains Downtown, it’s nice to see a local sandwich shop doing some good business among corporate employees. Zero’s bread is more akin to a bun in the sense that it’s mostly crust, so the bread gets nice and toasty when they heat it up. Even after taking my time to eat the sandwich while catching up with a friend, the bread wasn’t soggy even down to the last bite. I ordered a large Zero(turkey and salami, dressed) with chips and a drink — total was less than $ 9, really affordable! They have daily specials, too, in which their sandwich and pizza combos are discounted. I’m rarely in the *mood* for a sandwich, but if I need a quick bite to eat, Zero’s is definitely a solid contender.

Great sandwich(I’ve only had the zero). Guy at the register is really nice. Good deal — $ 10 for sandwich, chips, and soda.

Original location!!! Fresh ingredients, friendly staff! Great first impression! In the heart of downtown, so if you aren’t familiar be prepared because parking is limited. Very mom & pop feel as I walked in. Staff is super friendly and helped me with the most requested items on the menu. As I waited for my food people from all over were stopping in for a bite! Very popular lunch spot downtown. They are known for their bread. It’s similar to Schlotzsky’s bread(which I’m a HUGE fan of) Zero’s bread is lighter, which is refreshing and not so filling. I ordered turkey and cheese. It was really good. If I’m ever in the area I would definitely come back again and again!

Zero’s has some great sandwiches mainly due to the bread that they make in house every day! I always get the turkey and cheese sandwich and the bread is always warm and toasty but still has a bit of chewiness to it! It may not look like much from the outside but they have great food here. I would recommend if you are just looking for a quick sandwich/chips meal. Much better than Subway/WhichWich/etc. The line does get fairly long if you get there after 11:30am so if you want to skip the lines, try and get there around 11:25am. The service is pretty fast though so you shouldn’t have to wait an absurd amount of time either way.

As I’ve said before, no better bread on this side of town. Today, I tried the tuna for the first time. Excellent choice. I’m not a fan of mayo and they keep it to a minimum so thumbs up for that.

Very good sandwiches! Plenty of variety, they’re cheap and they’re filling. Great gem of a place to eat in Downtown Houston.

One of the cheaper lunches I’ve found near my office and also one of the best. Tasty bread and my chicken breast was cooked perfectly. I went at 11:20 and waited maybe 5 minutes for my sandwich.

Great sandwiches and chips at a great price. The other reviewers are right on the mark. Zero’s has a better Schlotskys original sandwich(the«Zero»). The bread is incredible. Zeros also carries delicious Zapp’s potato chips. I prefer the crawtator chips. Zeros offers several different sandwiches, but I always get a Zero, chips and drink. The location has tables that fill quickly. My office is only a block and a half away, but I find that I can easily eat my meal at this location and be back at my desk within a half hour. Great alternative to Subway and Schlotzskys.

Best sandwich Downtown — bread is Schlotzsky’s esque but sweeter. Zero is my favorite — always delicious — always packed — call ahead for sure

Awesome sandwiches, order Zero small with everything. Simple place, clean, friendly staff, great variety of chips not only Lays. My option for every day.

I followed everyone’s advice and got here around 11:15, there were still several tables open. This is a solid sandwich shop. Very reasonable prices and the large sandwich more than filled me up. Also, as others have reported the main thing here is the fresh bread, my sandwich was hot — I mean like just came out of the oven two seconds ago hot. The tuna though is just tuna, not tuna salad, probably better for me anyway, but next time I’ll probably try something else.

This sandwich shop is tucked away on the side of the downtown streets. Seating is very limited so crashing someone else’s table so you can get a seat and eat your lunch is your best bet. The cashiers are extremely fast at taking your order that it becomes quite overwhelming and stressful, especially for a new comer like me. The sandwiches offered here are quite different than your typical subway. It’s a mom and pop shop so supporting local businesses is always a plus for me. By the way, there is no gluten free bread, just white or wheat bread. The bread is very tasty and fresh. I enjoyed my chicken breast sandwich here as it was pretty juice, tender and had some flavoring. I’d come back here again but try to avoid rush hour time during lunch!

There are food restaurants that are good, and then there are some that are even excellent. But then, every now and then you come across one that goes above and beyond. Zero’s Sandwich Shop is one of these places. I stop by this place regularly for their smoked turkey-cheese sandwich. Let me tell you, it is absolutely an amazing sandwich, and this is bc they make their own bread. But then one day, after I had already made my order, the people at Zero’s Sandwich Shop saw that I glanced at their pizza menu while I was waiting. They explained how their pizza is baked daily with actual fresh ingredients and I just had to try. By that time, my sandwich was already made. Still, the owner offered to replace my completed sandwich for a fresh made pizza if I wanted it. This is what I call above and beyond service. This type of service, especially in Downtown, is very hard to find. I find it hard to believe if anyone wouldn’t like this place. And if you ever walk by, you should just simply walk in the door. Won’t take long for you to smell that wonderful smell of freshly baked bread and sandwiches.

Fresh baked bread makes these warm toasty sandwiches worth the walk! Best sandwhich(Turkey and cheese with all the fixins) I’ve had downtown. Decently priced. Get there early, we saw a lunch rush around 11:30 on a Friday after we sat down. Good service, the food came out quickly. Con: the day we went, there was a terrible smell coming from the soda machine that got worse as more people used it. Hopefully they will get that fixed soon. We sat far enough away that the smell came when we went to get a refill.
