In 2002 we launched Beach Handbags with the belief that we could spread joy to the world through the handbags market. The idea was to create an accessories lifestyle reminiscent of the sun, surf, and sand of Southern California.

From day one, neoprene has been the fabric of all Beach Handbags and Accessories. And family has been the heart of the business. The result is an enduring commitment to integrity and an uncompromising passion for style and creation.

Known for creating functional, washable handbags, totes and purses that combine classic elements with modern trends, Beach Handbags can now be found in specialty retailers all over the world.

History

Established in 2002.

In 2002, Karl had the innovative idea to design a women’s handbag using neoprene as the fabric. Neoprene, traditionally the material of wetsuits & scuba gear, had never successfully been used by a fashion design studio. Karl succeeded, & California Leash Company was founded as an in-​home design studio. The handbag line was named Beach by CLC, & it featured one handbag, in one tropical hibiscus print that came in five color options.

Karl’s wife Amber, traveled up & down the California coastline selling the unique Beach handbag. Even though the CLC collection had only one bag, she easily sold the stylish, light-​weight, flexible, & easy to clean design to dozens of shops & boutiques. By 2004, Beach handbags were sold in stores throughout the nation, as well as in the Cayman Islands, Puerto Rico & Canada.

Today it is more than a small design studio. Beach is a growing «family» of highly valued, talented individuals who share in Karl and Amber’s original vision: spread joy and love!
