Crybaby Teardrop Trailers

I contracted John S. to build me a trailer back in early May 2014, and gave him over $ 4000 as a deposit. After repeatedly checking back with him, and hearing nothing but excuse after excuse, and no trailer in sight, I asked for my money back in late October/​early November 2014. Upon hearing nothing in response to my request for a refund I sent him a «contract rescinded» letter and filed a small claims court case, which I recently won. Do not do business with this person. Apparently he is still in business at this address, but perhaps under a different business name, so please do your homework if you’re looking for a teardrop builder, and go elsewhere.
As a late April 2015 update, I recently received a notice that John S. is filing bankruptcy (Chapter 7), so even though I won my small claims court case against him, I will almost surely not be able to collect.

So not happy about the quality of craftsmanship that went into my trailer. It took me over a year to receive the proper pink slip witch I still need to register my trailer because it has a Lcn. plate on it that belongs to someone else. Keep in mind I paid them to have this registration done prior to receiving my Teardrop. The Galley lid has been a problem from day one, but after a year it seems to be corrected for the most part. Unfinished molding on the interior, sliding doors that don’t side, and since then I have had to have new interior cabinet door made. Windows leak, I’m on my second axle which still isn’t right and was supposed to be ordered and in back in November, still no word. Also I have made several attempts to contact John the owner with no avail! My suggestion is to pay a little more and get the better quality from Little Guy Trailers.

I ordered our trailer and gave these people a 3,500 dollar deposit over a year ago and was told it would take 6 – 8 weeks. After 4 months John told me that they were having trouble with their window supplier so I asked for a refund. He agreed to a full refund but has been putting me off for over 9 months! I can’t get him to return my calls or e-​mails anymore. I’m taking him to small claims. BUYER BEWARE!!!

Much like many of the stories we have head on You Tube, Unilocal,etc. we ordered our Teardrop and received it a few months after we were promised it. We were told John wouldn’t send out anything but quality. Well, one side on the galley area leaks because of a dent due to a pole at their facility falling on it, the workmanship such as finished caulking etc is just done ½ way and the wallpaper seams not only don’t all come together but are coming apart from the wall. The worst is the «Heavy Duty» trailer we were waiting on is bending and we’ve really only had the opportunity to take the trailer out a handful of times since we purchased it. Yeah, we have a year warranty, but there is no way I’d let them touch it to try to fix it.

Long story short we were told we would be getting a refund. Our trailer was sold and we still don’t have a refund. The owner has had no contact with us regardless of our attempts. I would not recommend this business to anyone.

We were one of the first Crybaby teardrops built. We shopped teardrops extensively, and while the price was right, we originally had reservations thinking things were too good to be true. We were proved wrong. John worked extremely hard on the teardrop and replaced or repaired anything that was even remotely out of sorts (which were minor punch list items). Everything was open, honest and completely above board so I’m a little leery of the one poor review. We are extremely happy with the finished product and would highly recommend Crybaby.

we have wanted to own a teardrop trailer for a long time so when we found crybaby teardrop trailers we were one of their first customers. we ordered our amazing custom teardrop from john in may 2013 and have made great memories and have had many excellent adventures with our baby. jalama beach, yosemite, idylwild and big sur to name a few. the trailer was made to our exact specifications and john went over and above to accommodate our every wish. thank you for the great service, attention to detail and excellent workmanship!

If you are looking for a teardrop trailer built for you do NOT commission this company to build it. We ordered our trailer and put ½ down as a deposit in July 2013. The owner/​builder John told us that it would take 2 months from the time he started and told us there was two already under construction ahead of our so our build would start the first week of September 2013. We had seen his work and it was good, however, NO communication at all. I would text, email, and call and he said everything was good. We watched as other trailers were built and sent out before ours. When I told him we ordered this trailer to take out for our anniversary in December I was promised it would be completed in time. December and January came and went. I had to call and text daily and drive every Saturday 200 miles or he wouldn’t work on the trailer.
I had purchased everything myself for this build right down to the glue. He supplied the wood and the aluminum skin. He complained about everything and had an excuse each time the deadline he set came and went. We paid extra for items that weren’t installed.
When we got the trailer we found out the next day (it rained) it leaked! He had not even used the marine glue I gave him to use. Drawers had huge gaps between them, the cabinet door was warped, the shelves were made out of ¹⁄₈ inch plywood, the doors did not lock from the inside, the electrical had no circuit box or master breaker, it was not insulated, the sliders windows we paid extra for were crank out, the electric vent was a crank out vent, globs of glue everywhere, the doors which were suppose to be the vintage D shaped turned out to be big and square. He ruined the vinyl floor he said he could put in as the ceiling. He left a sharp hole in counter he cut for the sink until I complained.
I have to rebuild this almost from the ground up. Save money, headache, costly repairs, and time… order a kit from another dealer or have a reputable builder make your trailer.
We have filed a complaint with DMV Investigations because of the safety issues and our trailer was never inspected before it was delivered to us.
We are filing a lawsuit against this company.
