Huntington Beach Hospital

Evening on 5−12−16 & Released on middle of the day 5−13−16.
My daughter needed to come to the ER with severe neck pain and felt like she was going to pass out. She is also hard of hearing which can be a challenge.
ER: Front Desk — They were kind and explained they were busy, get to us as quickly as they could. they were sympathetic to our needs (as best they can, with the high traffic they get through here). We did not have to wait that long.
ER Bed: CC was her nurse. She was very nice & made sure my daughter was as comfortable as she could be. She explained everything she was giving and doing (daughter is Hard of Hearing) and checked on her often. The guy that did her EKG (sorry for got his name) Thank you for being so careful and really nice and explaining everything you were doing.
ER Doctor: He was ok, wished he had a better bed side manner. He did order plenty of tests to see what was going on and I am glad about that. However my daughter is hard of hearing and he called her a deaf — mute. Not cool… So when they brought her upstairs to her bed they put that on the board. Maybe if he spoke better English that would not have happened.
Room: Was mediocre, t.v. was horrible (I understand you don’t want people staying here) but give them better channels to watch while they are in pain. I was glad she had her own room that is for sure.
Night Nurse: Elvis — He was a lot of help trying to get her comfortable & giving medication quickly. Did a great job!
Day Nurse: Eric — He had a hard job that day, my daughter was in so much pain and they did a lot of testing on her. He made sure we knew what was going on so I could explain it to her. He did an outstanding job…
CNA: Esther & Christina — You were both so kind and gentle to her needs. Lucky to have you.
Ultrasound: Elida Qrech & Jessica Huang: Sorry if I spelled your names wrong. You are both wonderful and did what you could to make her as comfortable as possible.
Echo Tech — Heart: Julie Kobler — You did an amazing job and so careful, glad she could sleep a tiny bit while you did your job.
MRI: Did not remember his name either (I did not sleep at all the night before) You made her as comfortable as anyone could possible feel on a machine like this. You were as quick as you possible could have. Thank you for your kindness & gentleness.
Cafeteria: Free Coffee so happy to be able to get as much as I needed. Food was okay, not many options but glad it was not expensive. Did see that they gave employees free breakfast & a nice lunch!
All of her doctors: Even though some of you came and went Thank you for all you did getting her tests done in a timely manner and all the care she could possibly get.
If I forgot someone I am truly sorry. Everyone that helped my daughter I/​we can’t Thank You enough for all the best care she could possibly have.

This is probably the worst hospital in Orange County besides Garden Grove Hospital. The staff is rude and slow, you usually have to wait forever to be seen despite no one else being in the lobby, and you will likely have to be transferred to a better facility if something is seriously wrong with you (or if you need to deliver a baby, since they have no labor and delivery ward).
My nurse was sweet but inexperienced, when inserting my IV line, she punctured my vein. I have had more than a few IV insertions performed in my lifetime and this one was by far the worst. It hurt so badly, my mom was there with me and said it was painful just to watch. This was almost a month ago, and I still have a visible mark on my arm that looks like it’s going to be a small scar.
The doctor in charge that morning was a pompous ass who knew less about my blood disorder than I do, failed to properly manage my pain level, and was totally disrespectful, acting like I was some junkie all because my adderall (for which I have a prescription) showed up in my urine. Save yourself the miserable experience and drive a few extra miles to go to either Hoag Hospital or Fountain Valley Regional, both excellent facilities with people who actually know what they’re doing.

The worst place I have ever been to for ER care. Please try to beg for them to not take you here on an ambulance. Worst experience, after 10 of blood withdrawal, no visit from an actual MD. We have to check our out against medical advise because they wouldn’t do anything. Worst place, nurses are too loud. I could hear them a mile away talking among themselves.

Best hospital in the world! Jeremy H. was awesome! He is so intelligent and helpful. He made our stay comfortable and bearable. We have always had a great experience with this hospital but this time far the best. Brooke the admitting nurse was a doll. Love this hospital and the nurses. Thank you Brooke and Jeremy you two are truly a couple of gems!

Terrible no attention to a 7 years old, they just think it not important just a kid with high fever. 5 hours in the waiting room … they said we put you at the end of the list again 3 more hours. we leave the hospital with any attention

I am so thankful to all if the staff at Huntington Beach Hospital. I had a visit to the ER Monday night/​Tuesday AM and everyone (doctors, nurses, receptionists, paramedics, everyone) was incredibly helpful and compassionate. I had just had a few seizures so I know I must have been a challenging patient (I was pretty out of it for a few hours), but everyone was patient with me. I was incredibly impressed by the quality of care provided, and the facilities were all in great condition too.
My doctor was Dylan Richard Foord (MD) and I unfortunately can’t remember my nurses name but everyone in the ER at 3 AM tues 3÷8÷16 was amazing.
Thanks again! Hopefully won’t have multiple seizures randomly in the middle of the night again but if I do, I’ll be back :)

Jeremy is one of the best nurses I’ve ever had. So thankful for all of his help and knowledge. Emergency rooms are not fun at all but he made us feel comfortable, he was very friendly to my husband and I, talked with us and explained everything very thorough. I am so thankful he was our nurse. THANK YOU JEREMY!

Came in with chest pain and upset stomach. Got me to room quick but did not ask about pain or give meds for 2 hours when I saw doctor. Bp was checked once and doctor said blood and x– Ray is fine but wanted to admit me. Called my primary doctor and heard reults and said he doesn’t require an overnight stay. Signed waiver and ran out! PCP will see me on Monday and see if I need to go to cardiologist. Kinda scary place.

This review is for the ER room only…
Unfortunately been here twice in the last two years. Last time was «ok» but this most recent trip was very disappointing. The doctor RICHARD MANTELL was less than pleasant and even though he said he saw 13 patients with the flu that morning, he acted like we were wasting his time and was not compassionate at all. My son had an excruciating body ache and he was going to send him away with a prescription for Motrin. I asked him if he could also give him a dose before we left. Why should I have to ask this?
The first nurse we had MIKE BROWN was very accommodating and pleasant, but when they did the changing of the guards shortly thereafter, we got an RN named COURTNEY who also acted like she was annoyed we were there.
When you come to the ER room… you obviously, already don’t feel well, so it’s even more unpleasant when you are treated poorly.
I faithfully pay my insurance premiums and since Huntington Beach Hospital is the closest to my home, I requested it when we used the ambulance service.
In future, I’m going elsewhere.
Hopefully, this review will draw some attention to improving your staff.
Attn: Nurses & Doctors: If you didn’t get into this profession because you like to help people, well… get out. You don’t belong here.
My son-​in-​law is an ER doctor and there is no question in my mind that he doesn’t treat his patients like this. Too bad for me that he practices in Santa Monica.

Had to take a client to the ER and we had the BEST RN named JEREMY!!! Super caring, helpful and friendly he made us feel right at home. By far the best!

I was here about two months ago on a school night. I fell on my wrist during after school practice on the turf and the sports medicine nurse at school gave me a splint and told me to go to an er to get it checked I got to the ER room around 8 pm and five hours later I got into the actual room where I got seated in a metal chair next to the desk. It took about an hour and a half of waiting to get that dang splint and confirmation that it was hairline fractured. I got out at about 2am and slept at 2:30 and still went to school the next morning. I met two boys the same age as me there and one was hit by a car and probably had a concussion and the other also did something to his wrist. The boy with the possible concussion had been waiting to the point where he and his family went home and he didn’t get to receive the urgent treatment he probably needed. The other one got treated around the same time but he was lucky and got a bed to sit and nap on while they were waiting. I should have gone to Hoag is all I have to say. The staff didn’t seem like bad people, they were just tired, done with life, and probably ready to be fired.

Save your time and drive a few extra miles to the next closest ER. I waited forever with broken ribs and I was the only one there.
Only for them to tell me nothing is wrong and it’s just bruised.
Pain was going on strong for another week, went and had a second opinion and they found 2 fractured ribs.
Not much you can do regardless, but at least I know I wasn’t being a baby about it.
I mean just look at the reviews about this place and I only live 2 blocks away and would rather drive further, even in a emergency.

I have been to this place multiple times and have NEVER had a good experience. They do not treat their patients in the right way. There are however a few CNA’s, doctors, and nurses that do treat you with respect. One of my favorite doctors is Dr. Chan. He listens and respects. Overall. This hospital sucks. I had a hematoma on my head that was never treated for and medication that made my hands break out that they never took me off of. I had a literal allergic reaction and they blew it off like it was nothing– mind you this was when my original dr was on vacation (dr. Chan). I had dr. El-​nascheff. However you spell it. He is in and out, doesn’t check pulse, the sound of your heart or anything. At the time I head a blood clot and a racing heartbeat. He never checked for swelling or anything. If you have an option of another hospital– I highly suggest you go there. I have heard the ER is extremely fast and good. Whole different department. So hopefully if it’s an emergency and they are close by you can count on them :-)

Underside of the paper towel dispensers in the check in and emergency room areas were covered in mold! In the freaking ER. I took pictures and mentioned it to the head nurse who called someone? Four hours later, no one ever came. Wash their hands, then touch mold, then you! Gross!

Got in with my husband who cut his upper eyelid and have been waiting for 5 hours for a doctor to see him. He definitely needs stitches. They put us on this area where goes an hour without anyone (staff, nurse, doctors) coming to check on patients.
Terrible service, it looks like an abandoned ER. I would never come back here.

I didn’t have a choice coming to this ER. but the chance we took on it ended up being a good one. I’m not a fan of hospitals but the staff here helped make my experience comfortable.
without getting into too much detail of my diagnosis. with what was happening to me — I needed A LOT of help. going into the ER, I was taken in immediately. it was almost unreal how fast it was that they took me into the back to get me started. my ER nurse Brooke, was an absolute sweetheart. she was so accommodating the entire time before I was admitted upstairs. from the injections to my IV, she talked me through it to make it all a little less painful. it’s nice to laugh while needles are getting driven into your veins.
after getting admitted upstairs, my stay ended up being almost 5 days because of the emergency surgery I needed. I went through many RN’s, LPN’s, and CNA’s. everyone took such amazing care of me. some of which went out of their way to take care of me like one of their own. anything I requested arrived promptly. anytime I needed assistance, someone arrived almost immediately. a couple RN’s made a personal connection with me seeing that I was close in age with their own children. Maria even took every free moment she could to console me and remind me that everything was going to be okay. the emotional support was very much needed and appreciated.
hospital food was typical hospital food, you can’t expect a 5 star meal. especially when you have a million different medications pumping through your IV. this hospital was a little on the older/​lower end so at times it did feel a little uncomfortable. visiting hours were limited. aside from these little factors, everything else was great. I couldn’t be more thankful to my nurses and surgeon for saving my life.

This hospital needs to be shut down. Horrible care. You can be there for 12 hours without seeing a doctor. They will keep you as long as they can without treating you. Do your best to avoid this hospital

Front desk staff is beyond rude, unorganized, and disrespectful. Does a patient really need to be mistreated upon arrival to get x-​rays? Clean up your staff. Unbelievable.
** GO ELSEWHERE IF POSSIBLE**

I took my son in to the ER on Saturday afternoon after he had crashed doing tricks on his bike, (funny thing, he had crash the night before in the ER parking lot… could have just crawled in… lol) and I have to say after all the negative comments I hear about this hospital, I was very surprised at the GREAT service we received.
Everyone from the Dr (who actually talked and explained things to us), nurses, xray techs, to the front desk staff were very friendly and took really good care of my son.
He had to have several xrays and some blood work done for multiple fractures, I thought for sure we would be there for ever… but was shocked how quickly we were out of there. Have to say quickest ER visit ever!

I would just like to say I would rather die then be sent to this hospital!
1. Rudest staff I’ve ever seen
2. Asked to see nurse nobody came for 2 hours.
3. By the time I got outside & smoked 2 cigarettes they then found me outside and wondered where I disappeared too.
Outside because nobody wanted to come in and talked to me.
4. Type 2 diabetic argued that it’s type 1.
5. Sign on wall in ER says «if you would like to be transferred to a hospital, that can help you, we will transfer you by ambulance!
6. Stabbed me 4 times for IV, my arm is still bleeding.
7. Completely Unsanitary
8. Took me off IV at 11 AM for «tests»
Never put it back on me it is 8 PM now they just argued that I took it out not them
9. Nearest soda machine for visitors is down stairs in the ER & no food for Visitors.
The only nice thing about this place so far is its 30 minutes after visiting hours and they didn’t kick my family out. But then again they’re probably afraid I’m going to discharge myself if they leave!
This hospital has been crossed of my list and I will never return. I advise you all to do the same!
