Scraps Restaurant

I found the food to be solid and the service good, but I think the portions are just too small for the price. I know tapas are small plates, but these are even small for tapas. Even my drink (Sweet Granadilla w/​Soju — $ 8 or $ 9) was on the smaller side, and I finished it really quickly, which I usually don’t do with my drinks. We got a $ 5 off for checking in on Unilocal,which was cool, but our bill was over $ 60 for two regardless and we probably could have eaten more. I think the chef or owner is Korean as a lot of the food seemed to have Kimchi. We ordered:
–Roasted Pork Belly Tacos ($ 7) — This came with three small tacos. Not a lot of meat, but what was there was flavorful.
–Bruschetta with Short Rib — For $ 10, I expected more than three tiny pieces. The dish was good, with the short rib marinated in a sweet type of soy sauce, but you could eat them in one or two bites.
–Caramelized Cauliflower — I’ve been liking cauliflower more and more. This was a simple dish yet pretty good — I did wish the cauliflower were a bit more caramelized as some pieces were a bit soggy.
–Chicken & Waffles — Loved the sweet glaze and crispiness of the wings. Came with 4 wings and two small kim chi flavored waffles for $ 9.
–Octopus Ceviche ($ 9) — This was refreshing and tasty — the octopus was not chewy. However it came with only four wonton chips — we could have used several more with the leftover octopus.
–Coffee Crème Brulee ($ 7) — Solid dessert w/​good coffee flavor. Ironically, the dessert was pretty large compared to their regular food dishes.
We ordered a total of 6 dishes and two drinks (the second was a beer). I had no major complaints and the food is solid, but I just didn’t think the prices were up to par with the dishes. Also, I didn’t think anything I had was particularly inventive — most reminded me of some normal Asian dish I’ve had (aside from the kim chi waffles). Having said that, maybe going here for Happy Hour would be a better choice.

I feel like the other Unilocal reviews hyped this way up for me even though I left mostly satisfied and without any really major complaints.
To start off, the guy running this place is super nice and takes care of his customers. I think the service was by far the best thing going on here. It looked like he was taking care of a dozen tables on his own and was holding down the fort without breaking a sweat.
Out of everything we ordered (that I recall) — sliders, bruschetta w/​short ribs, scraps rolls, pork belly tacos and brussel sprouts — the bruschetta was hands down the best dish. The others were good but i didnt get that «omg so good» feeling that you get when you eat something tasty.
I’m a big fan of their beer selection and I’d definitely come back to just hang out and drink but if you’re starving, three tiny sliders for $ 7 aren’t gonna pull you back from the brink of starvation.
I was also kind of stuck with the menu. There are a couple of obvious winners and a couple of items that are either uninteresting or just don’t sound appetizing (looking at you, fried pig ears and chicken bits).
Again, if you’re absolutely starving, maybe check out the menu just so that you know what’s on there before you go in. Otherwise I had a good time there but most of that is due to the beer and good customer service.

I came here for a mixer the other week. Very intriguing menu. All the reviews said to try the taro chips. Super thin, crispy, and distinctly spicy. Good in my book.
I split some crispy pig ears with some friends. It’s basically like a bacony crispy chip with a bit of a chewy texture. So good, and I finished the rest when my companions didn’t want any more.
I also tried the sliders. A bit disappointing. They were tiny, and I didn’t think the flavors meshed well.
Service was great. I didn’t get a chance to try the dessert, but I will have to come back.

Happy hour from 4 PM to 6 PM! There were about 10 appetizers to choose from during the happy hour (all $ 5).
Octopus ceviche (served with fried wonton chips, $ 5 happy hour): Octopus gave an interesting texture. Not a bad appetizer to start off (3.5÷5).
Roasted pork belly tacos (topped with radish & kim chi, $ 7): Not the best one I ever had, but roasted pork belly was pretty flavorful (⁴⁄₅).
Crispy potato & taro chips (served with cilantro jalapeño aioli, $ 5 happy hour): If you are coming here, then this is a must-​order. Definitely the best order order I had for the night. Taro chips were refreshingly crispy and that jalapeño aioli dip … my goodness … so good … (⁵⁄₅)
A pretty chill environment and friendly service. A big thumbs-​up!

I had a mad sexy date tonight who was cravin’ Asian and while she was «down for anything» she also stated– You’re the Unilocal Elite… soo your pick! Oh boy, no pressure! So, I fervently reviewed my options in the HB area and stumbled upon this little gem. James L. wrote a convincing review so I thought that it would be the perfect location to entertain my out-​of-​town guest.
We began the evening with the fried pig ears (against Jame’s recommendation) and agree that it probably wasn’t the best way to start the evening. Luckily the following two dishes were substantially better– soft-​shelled crab and coconut crab cake. Mmm… However, I would just skip dinner all together and just eat their panna cotta (with homemade kumquat jelly). It was to-​die-​for! So… incredibly velvety and smooth. Goodness if a guy took me here and shared this with me, I would be at the palm of his hand. It was such a luxurious treat.
Life is short, eat dessert first! 5 stars for the Panna Cotta alone!

mmmmmmmmm Scraps is gooooood.
I wouldn’t come here super hungry with a group… but coming here when you are semi hungry and have a hankering for a beverage is a perfect scenario. We came in with a party of 4 on Sunday and the restaurant was empty. This is usually a bad sign, but we forged ahead. Our server was kind and very attentive… of course… we were the only ones there, but he took good care of us.
We ordered some soju smoothies right off the bat. Let me tell you, the Pina Colada Soju smoothie is DELICIOUS! You do need to remember that it has alcohol in it because after 2 of them you could wonder why you fumbled your pineapple slaw… anyway I’m getting off topic.
This is what we ordered in the order of most delicious to least delicious.
1. Rib eye Sliders with pineapple slaw, topped with pickled leeks
2. Roasted brussel sprouts tossed with apples & almonds
3. Coconut crab cakes served with thai basil aioli
4. Ginger wings & waffles glazed chicken wings & kim chi flavored waffles
5. Bruschetta topped with braised short ribs
Now this list is based on deliciousness… the list based on «worth the money» would be very different. The crab cakes were $ 11 and they were very very tiny. The Rib Eye sliders are the size of ½ dollar coins and are $ 7 for 3. They do have Happy Hour during the week after 4pm, which is when I would return. I understand why this place was empty on a non Happy Hour Day… I hope the owner does too.

5. Best Birthday Dinner Ever!
The girls and I slutted up and took me here for our pre-​clubbing dinner. We walked into a nice and modern/​loungy establishment however it was surprisingly sparse in customers for a Saturday night. As the waiter seated us, we got many stares, both from perverted males and judgmental females, haters gonna hate! Anyway, we got seated and a young server was there immediately explaining the menu. He left to give us time to decide but took awhile to get back to us; quite a while that we started to wave our arms to flag him down. He came back sincerely apologetic and after we put in our orders, the first dish came out and he explained it was on the house. Awesome! The rest of the dinner got even better from there.
We ordered:
1. Taro Chips and dip 4.5 stars!- Aaaahhmazing! Very light and crispy w DELICIOUS jalapeño aioli dip
2. Sesame tuna salad 4.5 stars!- Very fresh greens with good hints of sesame
3. Brushetta– I didn’t try so no rating. GF’s said was good
4. Fried pig ears 3 stars– my only disappointment. They were thick strips of about 1 mm width, that doesn’t sound like alot but it is when the ears are chewy and they haven’t been deep fried to hell.
5. Ginger wings and kimchi Waffles 4 stars– I love the waffles, the ginger wings had lots of flavor, was tender and juicy.
6. Creamy Kabocha Soup w/​Short Rib 4 stars– This soup is quite light for being so creamy. Very delicious.
Towards the end of dinner, one of my gf’s asked if there was anything special for Birthdays. His response made me assume they usually Don’t have anything, but he made an exception for us. He brought out Panna cotta and Choco Crème brûlée. FREAKING AWESOME! 10 STARS for going above and beyond and I’m most positive there were no ulterior motives. What a nice guy seriously. Both desserts deserved 4 stars, I liked the panna cotta better though.
I will most definitely be back. Thank you so much Keith, owner, for being such a gracious and attentive host. A thousand Kudos! Also I must add very admirable that he quite his IT day job and opened up this place. I have a feeling the risk he took will be quite fruitful.

First time here. Concept was promising. Execution didn’t live up to expectations. I ordered 4 dishes, pork belly tacos, ahi tuna, sake oysters, and the bruschetta. The pork belly tacos looked good but didn’t have much flavor. The crispness of the pork belly was enjoyable though. The ahi tuna was good but not great. The sake oysters came out and were ginormous. They were the biggest oysters I’ve ever seen! The waitress informed us that these were called Texan oysters. Figures. Unfortunately, they were fishy tasting. This was a case of bigger not being better. Our last dish was the braised short rib bruschetta. This was probably the best tasting dish of the night.
Overall, I wasn’t impressed with the food. The only highlight for us was the waitress who was very nice and personable. Probably wont come back

I cannot decide between 4 and 5.
The sake oyster was the cleanest oyster i had ever had! The sauce was delicate and didn’t overpower the flavor of the oyster.
The tempura okra was good. Batter was thin and crisp. It comes with a ponzu sauce which isn’t really my preference for tempura.
Chicken hearts and bits. The hearts were a bit dry and over cooked. The bits (chicken bites) were juicy. The seasoning reminded me of the popcorn chicken you get from tapioca express except the seasoning here is better.
Rib eye sliders. The meat was a little more well done than I prefer. I do like that they respect the rib eye and serve it as a steak and do not grind it into a beef patty. The seasoning was good.
Deviled Quail eggs. i wasn’t wow-​ed by this. I like deviled eggs. I like quail eggs. But this just didn’t feel special to me. Call me a traditionalist, I guess i like my deviled eggs with a bit of an onion bite to it and with a bit of celery flavor in it. With some finely grated black pepper over it.
The bruscetta is very popular. Every table ordered it. I wasn’t a fan of it because it was too saucy.
Shishito Peppers. 1 in 10 shishito peppers is supposed to be alarmingly spicy. Our odds apparently were very good that night! It seemed like 6 in 10 were spicy that night.
Their beer list is pretty good too. I would recommend the Leffe.
Service…fantastic! The server was sweet and friendly. Kevin, one of the owners, was so friendly. He came by and chatted with us for a little while. Such a friendly and happy guy.
I would definitely come back to scraps again. Especially for the sake oysters.

This review is long overdue
I’ve been lagging like a mofo on my reviews. So bad im forgetting to write about some spots. OOPS! So Princess GiGi, Mama S, Sir william and I came here for din din on a saturday evening. I was kind of sad that this place wasn’t hoppin the way it should! I think his signage needs a change and the placement of the door. We saw so many people confused as to what kind of place this was and just passed it on by! So owner I beg you to change that Feng shui purdy please! Ok so we knew what we were getting into with this menu so we ordered a whole bunch of ish! Here’s the break down:
Scraps rolls: Nice and crunchy but they needed something soft like leaving some of the fat from the pork belly. The major crunch was from the skin of the pork belly. It just needed some balance. Still a tasty dish
Ginger wings and waffles: I was a bit worried about this dish because I really don’t like ginger stuff LOL But it was pretty damn good. The glaze wasn’t overwhelming on the wings. I LOVED the waffle. I could have ordered those alone again. My mom and I loved it.
Kurbota dumplings: Great dish. Only complaint I have is the size of the dipping sauce cup. What the hell. Four people can’t share that LOL. My mom hijacked the sauce and the rest of us got a sprinkle LOL
Fried pig ears: I didn’t enjoy this dish that much. I try not to compare dishes I’ve had at other spots but I can’t help it when it comes to something I’ve only had once, somewhere else. First time I had pig ears were at Animal in L.A. I loved that dish, it was simply fried and topped with a fried egg. Well here they bread it and no egg. Egg doesnt have to be with pig ear dishes, im just sayin that dish came with it. The breading killed it. Just let them shine on their on.
Coconut crab cakes: Very tasty dish. Fresh and I loved the sauces drizzled all over the plate. We all enjoyed this dish and great to have again.
Don’t ask me about the coconut skrimps. I didn’t have them LOL
Octopus ceviche: That was a hit with Sir william and Princess G. The dish wasn’t tooo memorable for me but I love the wonton chips YUM!
G&G crab: I love soft shell crab! This was great. Nice crispy batter. Sucks to share this with 3 other peeps LOL.
Seared salmon: This was my FAVORITE dish!!! So good we ordered it twice! The salmon tasted more poached than seared. Either way that shit was crack and those soba noodles in that creamy mushroom sauce set this dish off! I want some more of it NOOOOOOOOWWW!
Deviled quail eggs: Its cute but not fun to share with a party of 4. Will could have eaten those in one second flat. You would need to literally order two or three of those. Or get me some regular sized deviled eggs! LOL.
Albacore tartare: This was aight. Instead of shrimp chips top it on shrimp toast NOM NOM NOM NOM. Just a friendly suggestion.
Brussel sprouts: I don’t like brussel sprouts but these were ok. Gigis choice LOL
Dessert was the panacotta. It was BOMB BOMB BOMB. Very tasty and now I know where to get my panacotta fix!!!
Overall I enjoyed my meal and I can’t wait to go back. FOOOOOOO SHOOOOO! The service was great and the owner was BEYOND sweet and nice. Really humble guy. I wish him nothing but success :)

Asian inspired tapas, sounds like a cool concept. The inside of this place definitely gives you the vibe that it is special– a very modern and clean look. The fireplace area next to my table I thought was actually just décor but it also served as an additional seating area (sort of looked uncomfortable, and the guests that were seated there eventually asked for somewhere else to sit). The ‘bar’ area needs some work, it just looks depressing in that corner compared to the rest of the restaurant.
The portions aren’t huge here, hence tapas, and I ordered quite a bit to share just to get full. I feel like I would want to come here after having a heavy lunch earlier in the day. I would save this joint for another day if you are starving since you’ll reach for the menu often.
TO TRY
* Panna cotta — silky and smooth, just the right amount of sweet, didn’t care for the candied ginger on top but everything else you could want in a dessert
* Soft shelled crab — fried to perfection
* Tacos — just remember it being much better than the sliders
* Coconut crab cakes — loved the flavor combo of crab and coconut, comes with a small salad
NOT FOR EVERYONE
* Taro and potato chips — I like taro and the green sauce had a slight kick. The potato chips are just potato chips. I wish it was just all taro.
* Ribeye sliders — expected more from this but I would get this if you wanted something hearty
* Fried pig ears — again, fried to perfection. After awhile, the texture of this dish made it difficult to eat. I wanted a Coke after drinking this.
* Octopus ceviche — this one packed heat and I recommend it if you have a lot of heavy/​fried dishes on your table. They also have the Peruvian ‘nut’ in these.
PASS
* Kobe chili dog — not memorable
Drinks included their sangria and Polka Dot riesling. Maybe it’s because we were given the last bit of the sangria, but the portion didn’t seem to match up with the price (got about 4 small glasses).
I see lots of potential here and want to bring some friends to see what they think. Had a good conversation with the owner but I admit there were moments of awkwardness with certain questions and comments but I blame that on nerves!

Huntington has a new and upcoming contender: Scraps Restaurant.
I was invited to a dinner event here, along with some nifty Unilocalers, and I was happy to see that Asian Fusion is still evolving.
Gone is the snobbery associated with the early French-​Chinese fusion concepts of yesteryear; Scraps is experimenting with new and charming ways to mix authentic Asian flavors with comfort foods from all around the world. The result: some hits, some misses… but make no mistake, the love is there.
Our $ 25 tasting menu consisted of about ten courses.
— Sweet Granadilla: While on my own, I would NEVER order this, I was so stoked on this little beverage, I demand that EVERY restaurant serve this delightful cocktail. The little basil seeds that lined the bottom of the glass provided a delightful snap when bitten. Fantastic!!!
— Creamy Kabocha Soup: A very mild soup, with nice texture and consistency. The short rib was just salty enough to combine well with the subtle sweetness of the soup.
— Albacore Tartare: While I’m a slut for anything served anywhere near a shrimp chip, this dish truly stood out. Sesame oil stayed on my palate throughout the meal, but the texture of the tartare was heavenly. Good stuff.
— Potato & Taro Chips with Jalapeño Aioli: Even though this was kind of an improvised dish (i.e. they just kinda decided on a whim to throw it into the menu), it just missed the mark. Chips were underseasoned and unevenly cooked. And I dunno who named the sauce, but it wasn’t aioli. ((finger wags))
— Fried Pigs Ears: This is bold. And while it just didn’t achieve the texture I like from a well-​executed pig ear, I applaud the chef for having the «lady-​stones» to serve ‘em. Keep refining this dish and experiment with different sauces… This could one day be a serious crowd-​pleaser.
— Octocpus Ceviche w/​Wonton Chips: Shockingly good… UNTIL I practically cracked my tooth on a crazy corn-​nut like object. GADZOOKS!!! That just ruined it for me. The flavor was great, the octopus was great, but those little fried kernels may as well have been ball bearings. Bummer.
— Short Rib Bruschetta: The two elements apart were good — together, it was kind of a disaster. I wanted SO badly to just get a plate of each item, individually, because they were each so damn good. Some things are better on their own.
— Ginger Chicken Wing & Kimchi Waffle: This dish exemplifies what I mean when I say that this chef is taking Asian Fusion towards the intersection of Comfort Food Street and International Cuisine Blvd. The chicken wing was «Slap Yo Mama» good… I could’ve eaten a bucket of these. The syrup/​sauce that was served with the dish was a little odd; perhaps just a spicy syrup would suffice, as too many flavors seemed to be competing in the sauce.
— Roasted Brussels Sprouts: Just not good. To me, the decision to pair fish sauce and roasted Brussels sprouts is questionable. The sprouts were rather cruciferous (perhaps they needed a better blanching?) and it really just ended up as a flavor disaster.
— Deviled Quail Eggs with Salmon and Apple Chutney: As someone who really doesn’t like deviled eggs, it should come as quite the compliment when I say, «THESE WERE AWESOME!!!» I just might order a hundred of these for my next brunch. Simply fantastic on every single level, from taste to texture. YES, YES, YES!!!
— Vanilla Bourbon Panna Cotta with Kumquat Marmalade: Once again, not a panna cotta fan, but this dessert was downright indulgent yet ethereal. Ultra-​light, fresh, balanced, and a fantastic ending to a very thoughtful meal.
Yes, there were hits and misses. But only the bold dare to try something that might end up in complete disaster. I’m interested to see what this young, budding chef will come up with next. Her understanding of fusion obviously surpasses many in terms of her creativity, and with further honing, Scraps could be a serious destination for bold diners.

Leffe brown ale– A sweeter, medium bodied, full flavored ale, great tasting beer.
Goose Island Matilda– Belgian style full pale ale which pairs better with the food!
Hakutsuru Superior Sake for the birthday girl and she enjoyed it very much, its very light and smooth going down. Pairs well with the food as well.
We had reservation for a party of 11, at 7pm but weren’t able to sit down until about 8pm. Scraps isn’t exactly the biggest Restaurant so as this place gets more popularity, Reservations are Highly recommended. Oh well we got two bottles of hot sake on the house while we waited: D
Kabocha Soup:
Off the menu, ask if they have it available for the day you are there. It reminds me a lot the korean style Hobak Jook (butternut squash soup) but lighter in both flavor and texture. Very good none the less. ⁵⁄₅
Roasted Pork Belly Tacos: topped with radish & kim chi.
This was my favorite dish of the night. For others too. ⁵⁄₅
Bruschetta: Topped with braised short ribs.
My contender for Favorite dish. ⁵⁄₅
Roasted Brussel sprouts: Tosssed with apples & almonds. This tastes very Vietnamese and I LOVED it. At first I thought it was fish sauce but a friend next to me said no its squid sauce and she was correct, it totally had the dried roasted squid taste to it. ⁵⁄₅
Ginger Wings & Waffles: Glazed chicken wings & kim chi flavored waffles.
This dish is very unique not because of the wings but because of the waffles. The wings were big and plump but the glaze seemed to be a very typical «Asian» glaze one can make… but the Kim Chi waffle was very original and creative. ⁴⁄₅
Chicken bits & hearts: Tossed with five spice & chili. This was the most unexpected dish of the night for me. Reminds me of Taiwanese style popcorn chicken with slightly chewier meat and better seasoning. ⁴⁄₅
Octopus ceviche: served with fried wonton chips.
This dish has a huge influence from Peruvian style ceviche. From the fresh citrus added only mins before serving to the maíz chulpe (giant roasted corns) it was loved by many. I prefer the fish version of ceviche still as octopus is a bit of a tougher meat naturally. Personally 3/​5, others prob give it a ⁴⁄₅ if not more.
Rib Eye Sliders: served with pineapple slaw, topped with pickled leeks.
The buns were a lot like hawaiian sweet bread, the whole pieces of «rib eye» was tender and I think the pineapple slaw made it unique and sweeter than your avg sliders. 3.5÷5
Sesame albacore salad: prepared with granny smith & soy ginger vinaigrette.
I thought this dish was just okay. However, it was another persons favorite dish of the night. I did like how clean and simple everything tasted from the perfectly seared fish to the light dressing on the spinach. ³⁄₅
G&G Crab: soft shell crab sauteed with ginger & garlic, served with sticky rice.
No one mentioned this dish as their favorite probably because it was on the verge of a normal tasting soft shell crab dish. If you’re a big fan of SS Crab you will probably like this dish. ³⁄₅
Crispy kurobuta dumplings: served with garlic citrus sauce.
This was one persons favorite. I for some reason was picturing shanghainese style soup dumplings as those are my Favorite however this was more of a japanese/​korean style dumplings many refer to as gyozas or mandu with pork meat. ³⁄₅
Scraps Rolls: cripy pork belly crepes wrapped with rice paper, served with nuoc mam.
My newly acquired braces kind of made it difficult for me to enjoy this dish but that aside, I thought it was just OK and the rice paper was a bit dry on the one I got, could have probably wet it a tad bit more. Can’t beat Brodard’s spring rolls but a couple people loved this dish and ordered another. Me– ³⁄₅ others prob ⁴⁄₅
Fried pig ears: served with roasted bell pepper aioli.
Basically tastes like fried batter since pig ears is mostly skin and cartilage. Some might enjoy the texture of it but ultimately you’re eating sauce. 2.5÷5
Panna cotta: topped with komquat marmalade. 3.5÷5
Lemon Sorbet: served with fresh fruits and condensed milk.
Free with Unilocal check in and it was actually really good. ⁵⁄₅
New York cheesecake: Taste just like cheesecake factory’s ;) ⁴⁄₅

Because THIS PLACE IS ON FIRE! Don’t just sound any alarm., but the FIVE STAR ALARM! This may just be the easiest five star review I have ever given! I Love my Tapas!
Tapas, Tapas and more Tapas! Each one of these dishes abounds with distinct individual tastes and aromas of fresh ingredients. At the same time, the chef has managed to create one unique and well flowing taste by their combination. Amazing to have the best of two worlds in one dish! Top this with a dang good glass of Ice Cold Soda Chanh and I am a Super Fan!
I came here with the little one and the host and staff were most accommodating. The décor is superb and they have a nice warm fire place, TV and a full bar. This place is so modern, yet completely old school and reminds me of a family style restaurant.
Cozy and warm atmosphere, friendly and caring staff, a fire place and living room type setting have me liking this place. 5 stars! And… FIVE STAR FOOD.
1. Roasted Brussel Sprourts-​Granny Style!
~This dish was just straight up delicious and my little one’s favorite. A very «roasty» flavor from the almonds with sweet fresh Granny Smith Apples. Wow! The Red Delicious Apples ran out of luck on this dish because Granny made this one terrific healthy treat for kids and adults!
2. Caramelized Cauliflower-4.5 Stars.
~terrific healthy dish prepared in a unique and flavorful way.
3. Sliders 5 Stars.
~My eyes may be closed but my heart was wide open for these «eyes»…Rib Eye that is! Yup, Rib Eye Sliders! And, if these bad boys were good enough alone, Scraps did something completely unheard of… They tried to fix something that wasn’t broken and made it even better by topping it with a crunchy leak that completely BLEW ME AWAY!

FIVE STARS for Scraps Restaurant! Owner and Host, Keith, has fused together a diverse menu from several cultures, and melded it together into one delicious menu! BRAVO!!! First, let me mention that the phenomenal Chef Jamie used to work at Jose Andres’ Bazaar in LA and she has been trained at several other top restaurants in Beverly Hills! She put together a 10 course (actually 11) tasting menu for $ 25. The food ranged from Vietnamese to Spanish to Chinese to Korean to New American. HEAVEN!
Sweet Granadilla — AWESOME drink. Loved the tanginess of the passion fruit and the bounce from the basil seeds. One sip and I thought I was in tropical heaven! Grade: A!
Creamy Kabocha Soup — Delicious. Period. The kabocha is smooth and balanced, not overpowering. The short ribs was a twist to this dish and it paired well together. When I ate this dish, I thought «calm». Not sweet, not salty, not in your face. Comforting. Grade: A!
Albacore Tartare — A delightful serving of fresh tuna, prepared Hawaiian style and served with shrimp chips. The taste of the islands explode in your mouth with every bite. Grade: A–
Potato and Taro Chips — A fun combination of potatoes and taro made into crispy delightful chips. Served with a jalapeño aioli sauce. Fun to eat, visually stunning, and tasty! Grade: B+
Fried Pig Ears — This dish showed off the chef’s talents. Trendy fried pig ears served with a home made habanero pepper sauce (to die for!). The outside was crunch and the inside was chewy. Fun to eat and explore! Grade: B+
Octopus Ceviche — One of my favorites of the night. This dish was refreshing and exciting! Tender pieces of octopus served with japapeno, tomato, onions, lime juice cilantro, fried corn kernels and a whole lot of flavor! Served with won ton chips. Wow! Grade: A+
Bruschetta — BOMBSHADIGGITY! Hands down my FAVORITE dish of the night. I dreamt of the short ribs all night. Your usual bruschetta served on toasted crostini bread and topped with Vietnamese inspired short rib meat. I would drive to Huntington Beach just for this dish! AMAZING! Grade: A++
Ginger Wings & Waffles — Korean inspired chicken wings served with kim chee waffles. The sauce was a sweet-​savory-​spicy all in one — made with maple syrup & kimchee sauce. Innovative dish and FUN! Grade: B+
Roasted Brussels Sprouts — New American dish of brussel sprounts, brought to current day innovation. Roasted brussel sprouts served with chunks of granny smith apples, toasted almonds, and cooked with a hint of Vietnamese secret ingredient. Innovative and interesting dish. Grade: B.
Deviled Quail Eggs — What a cute dish! Bite sized pieces of roasted quail eggs stuffed with salmon and jelly. Visually beautiful and fun to eat. Grade: B+
Panna Cotta — OMG this dessert dish was one of my favorites! Congrats to the chef. The Panna Cotta was thick and dense, giving a wonderful texture! Served with a home-​made kumquat jelly on top. The chef clearly showcased her fine training in this dish! Grade: A+
I loved dining here and will be back again! Great atmosphere, superb service, and fun to eat dishes! BRAVO!

Being a fan of Hawaiian punches and pogs, the passion fruit inspired Sweet Granadilla was right up my alley, even without being spiked up with soju. As I sipped at my straw, the puffed up sweet basil seeds were cavitating like so many tiny tapioca like balls as they were sucked up the straw; pretty cool stuff…
The Creamy Kabocha Soup was a beautiful Asian rendition of pureed butternut squash. The savory pulled short rib dollop is a step up from the obligatory crème fraîche I normally encounter. It could use some cinnamon and/​or nutmeg unless I missed it…
The Albacore Tartare is for all you poke fans out there, served on a Chinese soup spoon; nice! I loved the crispy light shrimp chips, I can eat them all day by themselves, but topped with the tuna, it was like a mini taco. This was easily my favorite…
I would have traded the off the menu Taro and Potato chips for some more shrimp chips; no hatin’ just sayin’. The two most important characteristics I want in a potato chip is salty and crispy and these didn’t do it for me…
Mention Fried Pig Ears and I instantly think of chicarones, which up until now was the only other way I’ve had it. In my mind, I was expecting something closer to the shrimp chips in texture, but instead they reminded me more of battered and fried calamari. They were chewy in a bad way and not even the accompanying aioli couldn’t save it…
Ask me what the difference between Octopus Ceviche is and octopus poke is and I would say that the octopus is «cooked» in the tangy citrusy lime acids. It’s a very bright tasting dish in stark contrast to some of the sweet and savory flavors in the rest of the sampler. The presence of Peruvian cancha adds a unexpected but nice dimension of crunch that I would have expected at Zarate’s Mo-​Chica, but not here…
The same savory braised short ribs used to top the kabocha soup is present in the Bruschetta and is a nice staple in any savory menu along with Kurobuta, a must in any tapas, I don’t even miss the cheese…
Show me a waffle on a non-​breakfast menu, I think first of Bruxie’s, but these Ginger Wings & Waffles are infused with kimchi sans the cabbage, and very subtle. I didn’t think the red pepper chili had too much bite. I’m not much of a wing man but the glaze on the chicken was syrupy sweet; I much prefer legs, actually drummettes…
Permanently scarred in my youth by overcooked, bitter S&W canned brussel sprouts, I have come full circle once I had a taste of Susan Fenniger’s B.S. Using toasted almonds instead of walnuts in unison with finely chopped Granny Smiths, I was glad to see a green veggie offering to offset all the protein; I thought the fish sauce worked and I finished all my veggies…
Unless you’re a fan a deviled eggs in general, these Deviled Quail Eggs are not unlike the proverbial bullfighter specials on the day that the bull won. Production Deviled eggs are a pain in the ass to make, but piping in and topping it with salmon, apple chutney, and dill weed (?) make me think you have serious OCD issues that doesn’t go unappreciated…
I knew the bourbon Panna Cotta had the right amount of kumquat marmalade because there was enough with every spoonful. In a Sandra Lee moment, I could substitute TJ’s mango chutney, but the texture of the panna cotta gelatin was damn near perfect…
I tried the Red Sangria which was not part of the tasting menu and was immature, the flavors from the fruit didn’t have enough chance to meld with the red wine yet. Not terrible, but you should try the ones at Babita, Tagine, or Texas de Brazil, they were my favs…
Great in concept, I would like to see them make it so I can try some more on the regular menu. Personally, I would like to see a 5-​item and/​or a 8-​item tasting menu be added, perhaps omakase like Kelley U recommended would be great…

Don’t let the name scare you off as you won’t get scrap meals here. Portions are small but they pack a lot of punch. After all, this is a tapas restaurant. The whole goal is to try as many different dishes as possible. Chef used to work at Jose Andres’ Bazaar in LA so you know you’ll get some exotic dishes. Her vision is to create Asian fusion dishes that don’t already exist. She doesn’t limit herself to just one type of fusion like Korean-​Mexican, Vietnamese-​American, etc. She mixes whatever she can possibly mix to create a unique dish.
Thanks to Greg N., my wife and I joined several other Unilocalers to try a 10 course tasting menu prepared specifically for our party.
Sweet Granadilla — This is a passion fruit drink with basil seeds, available with or without soju. I got it with soju. I can drink about 5 of these. It was excellent. The soju served as more of a background flavor and accentuated the passion fruit flavor. The addition of seeds gave a nice texture to the drink. The seeds reminded me of little pieces of aloe jelly. 5 solid stars for this drink.
Creamy Kabocha Soup — An excellent combination of sweet and salty. The sweetness comes from kabocha squash and salty comes from short ribs. I love squash soups in general, I just never had it with short ribs before. Another excellent combination. 5 stars. This is not on their menu as it was prepared specially for us. They definitely need to make this a regular menu item.
Albacore Tartare — This is packed with flavor. Clearly one of my favorites. The sesame flavor really works on this dish. It is served with shrimp chips which added a nice crispy texture to the soft albacore mixture. I would like to see a spicy version of this dish. 5 stars.
Taro and potato chips served with jalapeño aioli sauce. This was a complimentary dish that was not listed on our 10 course tasting menu. Chips were nice and crispy and went well with the aioli sauce. 4 stars.
Fried Pig Ears — This was my least favorite dish. The roasted bell pepper aioli dipping sauce was fantastic but just didn’t care for the fried pig ears. I just don’t care for cartilage texture. I also thought fried ears could’ve used more seasoning. All the flavor came from the dipping sauce. As soon as I bit into the ear, even the sauce flavor seemed to dissipate. 2 stars for pig ears, 4 stars for the dipping sauce, so I’ll give it 3 stars overall.
Octopus Ceviche with wonton chips. Great flavor on ceviche. This is similar to the ceviches I’ve tried at Peruvian restaurants. Cancha (toasted corn) and wonton chips balance out the overall texture. 5 stars.
Bruschetta topped with braised short ribs. Another interesting combination. Braised short ribs were flavored really well. I would like to know what the chef used to marinade this. 5 stars.
Ginger Wings & Waffles. The ginger wings are really good. It has a really strong ginger flavor which I love. The kimchi waffles were strange but it wasn’t as bad as I thought. It has a subtle kimchi taste. What I didn’t care for was the kimchi glaze sauce for the waffle. It tasted like sweet kimchi juice with a thicker consistency. It’s definitely something that requires getting used to. 4 stars.
Roasted Brussels Sprouts — I’m not a fan of bitter taste of brussels sprouts so this wasn’t one of my favorites. The addition of granny smith apples sweetens it up a bit but not enough to take away the bitterness. However, it was one of the better dishes using brussels sprouts so I’m still giving it 3 stars.
Deviled Quail Eggs — These are really tiny. I had to put a fork next to the picture to show just how small these are. It is filled with salmon and little bit of apple chutney. Quite an interesting take on deviled eggs. 4 stars.
Panna Cotta — This is vanilla bourbon panna cotta topped with kumquat marmalade. Panna cotta portion was excellent. I think it would be fine even without the marmalade but the citrus from kumquat does add some balance to the richness of panna cotta. 5 stars.
Service was excellent. Food was paced well and the manager gave a brief description of each item as they were being served.
Chef Jamie has a good vision and seems to be headed in the right direction for the restaurant. I just wonder if this is the right location for this type of restaurant. This particular area doesn’t cry «foodie» to me. It’s nestled in the middle of several business buildings and a movie theatre (a crappy one). Hopefully it will get enough word of mouth to make it successful.

Innovative Asian fusion tapas in Huntington Beach?! Who would’ve thunk it? Thanks to Unilocal friend, Greg N., several Unilocal friends and I were able to try the creative small plates at this innovative new restaurant.
We were presented with a special 10 course tasting menu made available to our party. Our first course was a drink called the Sweet Granadilla.
Made with passion fruit and basil seeds, we were offered the option of with or without Soju. It was a refreshing way to start our meal.
Next, came out the Cream Kabocha Soup.
The pureed squash soup had a nice flavor topped with short rib. Usually, I am not a fan of squash soup because it is on the sweeter side, but this was so rich and the short rib added saltiness to it which made it highly enjoyable. Definitely one of my favorite dishes of the evening.
Albacore Tartare was the next course.
The fish was finely diced with onions and served with two shrimp chips. I enjoyed this plating very much. The tartare atop a shrimp chip was a tasty combination.
We were treated to an extra course which was Scraps’ homemade taro and potato chips.
Being the homemade potato chip fiend that I am. I LOVED this special course. I said to one of the owners that they should bag and sell these things. I also enjoyed the garlic dipping aioli that came with the chips. Yum!
Fried pig ears came out next. This is not what I was imagining in my head when reading our tasting menu.
I was picturing a pig ear like you give to your dog as a treat. Not so. These were cut in strips and breaded and fried. They were served with red pepper aioli. These were interesting.
Next, came out the Octopus Ceviche.
I love ceviche and this was a nice take on it with Brazilian corn nuts in the mix with the lime marinade. I enjoyed this presentation with wonton chips.
At this point, I was starting to get full, but the tapas kept coming and Bruschetta with short rib was next.
The short rib atop the baguette slice was slow roasted tastiness. Such a nice flavor to the meat. It kinda reminded me of charsiu with what seemed like Chinese 5 spice flavor.
The next interesting course was the Ginger Wings and Waffles.
This was probably one of the most unique platings of the evening. The waffle was presented with a Kim Chee maple syrup which was a truly unique combination but I thought worked really well with the waffle. The ginger wing had a nice sweet glaze that was crunchy and a had a nice hotness to it. A very tasty piece of chicken.
The next course was one I was not anticipating I would enjoy since it was Roasted Brussel Sprouts.
I am not a brussel sprout girl. I do not enjoy their general bitter flavor. These were roasted, halved and prepared with fish sauce and served with Granny Smith diced apples and slivered almonds. Definitely added to the presentation and made them way more palatable for a person who is generally not a brussel sprout fan.
Next were Deviled Quail Eggs.
I love deviled eggs so I was looking forward to this course. Definitely not disappointed. Prepared with salmon, the quail eggs were nicely flavored and topped with an apple chutney. A great combination of all ingredients to make a delicious deviled egg.
Dessert course of Panna Cotta was next. I love panna cotta and I was so excited about this diving into this that I forgot to shoot a picture. This panna cotta made with vanilla bean and whipped cream and topped with a Kumquat marmalade was delightful. The panna cotta was so rich and creamy, I could have eaten it without the marmalade topping, but it added a nice complimentary topping to this dessert.
Our ten course meal was outstanding. Such beautiful presentations of delicious small plates! The staff could not have been more accommodating, attentive and informative. Thank you, Greg N., for the invite and Scraps, for bringing your delightful dishes to Huntington Beach!

Located next to Gyu-​Kaku and other eateries in this trendy area of Huntington Beach, I was fortunate to be able to try a 10-​course tasting menu special at Scraps recently.
1^st Course — Sweet Granadilla. This house specialty drink is made with sweet passion fruit with basil seeds. The alcoholic version was made with soju which was a nice combination with the sweet juice. This was an enjoyable beverage.
2^nd Course — Creamy Kabocha Soup. Kabocha is a Japanese squash closely akin to the pumpkin and that’s what this dish reminded me of from consistency all the way to it’s slightly orange-​ish color. It was slightly warm and came with a dollop of a special short ribs mixture. This dish was really appetizing and delightful.
3^rd Course — Albacore Tartare. This was served with shrimp chips. It was similar to ahi poke with the albacore being diced smaller and mixed with some green and white onions. Sampling a bite on its own, I thought the onions were slightly overpowering in this dish. However, the combination of both the chip and albacore mixture was better since the chips gave the combination a slightly salty accent making this dish enjoyable.
We were served a special treat of taro chips with a jalapeño aioli which was not part of the 10-​course menu but was quite good.
4^th Course — Fried Pig Ears. Served with a roasted bell pepper aioli dipping sauce, this was unfortunately my least favorite of all the dishes. I couldn’t get past the noticeable cartilage texture. I would have eaten more but the cartilage was a definite deterrent for me.
5^th Course — Octopus Ceviche. Personally, I don’t typically eat octopus even when I eat sushi because I’m not fond of the tough and rubbery texture of the meat. However, octopus was tender in this dish. Slightly tart due to the fact that this dish is prepared by marinating the meat mixture in citrus juices, it is still a nice rendition of ceviche.
6^th Course — Bruschetta. A little crostini topped with sweet shredded braised short ribs mixture was good. I would normally prefer a more salty flavor but the sweetened twist of this dish made it both interesting and enjoyable.
7^th Course — Ginger Wings & Waffles. A glazed chicken wing was served with a kimchi (Korean cabbage) infused waffle. The chicken wing was caramelized with a sweet and spicy coating and came with a small side dish of sweet chili sauce. The kimchi flavoring of the waffle was slight, almost unnoticeable but was delightful to eat with the chicken.
8^th Course — Roasted Brussels Sprouts. This dish of roasted brussels sprouts tossed with bits of Granny Smith apples and toasted almonds was unique. I noticed this dish right as it was placed in front of me due to the scent of fish emanating from this bowl which we discovered was due to the splash of fish sauce in the dish. On taking a bite, I wasn’t sure whether I liked this dish or not. True, the Brussels Sprouts weren’t as bitter after being roasted but the combination of this with the tart apples and the slightly fishy taste was different to say the least. I would have to say that this was my least favorite of all the dishes served.
9^th Course — Deviled Quail Eggs. These little hard boiled quail eggs were filled with salmon and topped with an apple chutney. These little tidbits were delightfully enjoyable to pop in your mouth.
10^th Course — Panna Cotta. Made with vanilla bourbon and topped with kumquat marmalade, I enjoyed this dessert and thought the combination was well executed as the Panna Cotta was creamy and the marmalade gave it just the right accent to make this dish very tasty as a finishing touch on a very nice 10-​course meal.
The restaurant has been open for a few months now and I think they have an interesting collection of small plates that everyone would enjoy. They serve most of the traditional beers as well as sangria, wine and specialty drinks such as soju with hongcho, sake and even some specialty smoothies such as strawberry soju smoothie and piña colada soju smoothies to name a few.
The staff were very friendly and attentive to our needs and I appreciated one of the staff members describing each course as we were served. They are currently only open for dinner but may be opening for lunch in the near future.
Chef Jamie Ngo was trained at Le Cordon Bleu in Pasadena and worked at such places as the Ritz Carlton in Pasadena, The Polo Lounge at Beverly Hills Hotel and The Bazaar at the SLS Hotel in Beverly Hills. I think that people would enjoy her creations as she fuses her French cuisine specialization with an Asian flair. I enjoyed my experience and would certainly return again to try some of the other items on the menu.

Recommendation courtesy of yf Tram V, and then yesterday (¹¹⁄₁₁), my other yf Kimmpossible N. also writes a very positive review. I don’t normally do two reviews in one day, (unless I take a blue pill — JK!!!). But, I thought well enough of this new place to help get the word out to fellow Unilocalers. This place is on the corner of Beach and Warner in HB adjacent to 3 other places I have been to: The Loft; Mr, Pickle and Gyu-​Kaku.
We ordered the octopus ceviche ($ 8), bruschetta ($ 7), scraps rolls ($ 7), G&G soft shell crab w/​sticky rice ($ 11) and ginger wings and waffles ($ 9). We also received a complimentary sweet granadilla and basil seed drink ($ 5) and panna cotta w/​kumquat marmalade for dessert ($ 8).
The granadilla drink was really good. it is similar to passionfruit, but slightly lighter in color and not as sweet as passionfruit: 4 Stars.
I know my octopus, and this version was very good. The octopus was fresh, tender and there was the right amount of heat from the serrano chilis. This dish is served w/​fried won ton chips, but it tasted good w/​o the chips. Lastly, there was roasted corn in the ceviche which was a unique touch: 4 Stars.
The bruschetta was topped w/​braised short rib flavored w/​five spice. This dish was super savory and filling, and a nice «surf and turf» contrast to the octopus: 4 Stars.
The scraps rolls consisted of a pork belly crêpe wrapped inside a rice paper wrapper w/​lettuce. It was served w/​a nuoc mam based sauce. This dish was OK. We couldn’t taste the pork belly that much and I prefer a stronger nuoc mam: 3 Stars.
The soft shell crab was the «star» of the evening. It was fresh, perfectly seasoned and a nice size portion. The classic ginger and garlic taste came right through on the first bite. The sticky rice and lime were not necessary in my mind: 5 Stars.
The wings and waffles were the only disappointment of the night. However, to be fair this dish was right after the best dish of the night w/​similar flavor. The wings didn’t seem to have much flavor, and the waffles were supposed to contain kim chee, but one did and one didn’t. The syrup also did not have much flavor: 2 Stars.
The panna cotta was really good. It was silky smooth and the tartness of the kumquat marmalade was a good accompaniment. The only recommendation I have would be to make the strands of kumquat smaller. In this way, you can get a small amount of marmalade w/​each bite. I had a hard time separating the strands so I didn’t get too much kumquat: 4 Stars.
The ambiance is nice & simple, and the restrooms were clean: 3 Stars. On the other hand, the service was excellent. The server was super nice and explained the menu. One of the owners Keith stopped by to introduce himself. He is super nice too, and asked us for our feedback. He went into more detail on the menu, and thanked us for our feedback: 5 Stars.
Overall rating: 3.50−3.75 Stars rounded up to 4 Stars. They have other interesting dishes that I would like to try next time: Sake oysters; Pork Belly tacos; And pigs ears. Recommendation: Get here soon before this place is overrun by Unilocalers. I obviously found out about Scraps via Unilocal.But there was a table of 5 Unilocalers that drove from Irvine to check it out. BTW, they currently have a 15% off deal!!!
