Hertz Rent A Car

Avoid this place. They totally scammed me on the insurance charge for their rental. A worker named Ashnay — not sure on the spelling — assured me numerous times that if I rented on one day and returned it the next that they would charge me for 1 day’s insurance.
So I signed up for the insurance and — what do you know — they charge me for two day’s insurance. I call up, and everyone (Ashnay, Brandon…) swears up and down that Ashnay never told me what he had, in fact, told me.
But they did offer me a coupon for 10% off on my next rental. Right, that’s happening.

I went to Hertz to rent a minivan on 4÷18÷14. There was one guy at the desk, who told me someone was just taking back a minivan, and I could rent it right afterwards.
I waited. This guy even did business with people who came after me.
Approximately 30 minutes later, I was called for the transaction. After taking my credit card, my driver’s license, and getting my phone numbers, I was told the car was under a safety recall and I could not rent it.
I asked why the previous occupants were allowed to rent it, and I was told they started the rental before the safety recall. I call BS. If there was a legitimate safety concern, wouldn’t they get the previous occupants to come back as soon as possible, and NOT ask them routine questions like how they liked it, in a manner as if nothing was wrong?
They wasted 30 minutes of my time for nothing, and I believe they denied me the rental for reasons other than a «safety recall». I should have been more loud and demanding, especially when the guy called people ahead of me.
It’s places like Hertz Rent a Car in Huntington, NY that make being firm and borderline rude to people in the service industry, without giving them the benefit of the doubt, a necessity.
I will avoid this place unless I have the sudden urge to waste 30 minutes of my time in a messy rent-​a-​car office and be treated like a second class citizen.
