Every month me and a couple friends drive to different hot dog stands. Today we visited Stewart’s Original Hot Dogs. Our trip took a total of 16 hours and I must say this hot dog was worth the trip. There Hot Dogs are by far superior to the other hotdogs in the area. If you’re ever in Huntington West Virginia please give Stewart’s a try.

Yet another old-fashioned Drive in here in Huntington West Virginia. I decided to pull off and check this place out after a recommendation from a friend who went to Marshall. It did not disappoint. I kept it simple, going with the chili cheese dogs, the onion rings, and a root beer. It is definitely one of the better hot dogs I’ve had. The chili sauce is good. I really liked it, but for those wanting a thicker or spicier chili, that is not what you’ll get here. It is definitely a nice mild chili sauce. The hotdogs were a little on the smaller side, but at about a buck 50 each, I feel that they are priced well. If you like hot dogs, this is definitely a place to go if you’re in Huntington.

LOVELOVELOVE Stewart’s! They shipped an order to my dad in double-quick time and the hot dogs are the best. Please keep up the dedication to quality and service although I know you will as you’ve done this for a long time!

Quite simply… perhaps the greatest hot dog I’ve ever had. anywhere…and I’ve had em all over the world. I will admit to being partial to the«West Virginia» style dog… which entails a very light, flavorful chili sauce(no beans) topped with finely grated, creamy cole slaw. The combo of the spicy warm dog with the coolness of the crunchy slaw… on a perfectly steamed soft bun… cannot be described adequately. Such an amazing combination of flavors, and Stewarts is the gold standard(no affiliation with the New Jersey chain of Stewart’s…although they actually look similar). In any event, was totally blown away with this place… and was honestly one of the best meals I had last year…

A great Huntington classic. Since I moved I haven’t found anywhere that will make me a hotdog taste as great as there. …love it and miss it.

Hot dog itself is nothing special. The sauce(chili topping), however, is my favorite in town! It’s more beany that meaty. Of course add slaw, onions, and mustard for the best experience :) This is a classic stop in the town of Huntington, WV. ps– Root bear is awesome. BBQ’s good, too!

This is a case of branding and hype. While Stewarts is a classic Huntington must dine for visitors, after nearly 20 years of observation, I can say the sauce has deteriorated somewhat to a runny paste that shares consistency with canned Hormel Chili. I’m not sure why they stopped using all beef dogs either. Don’t get me wrong, the establishment has a place and I eat there every few weeks, but I don’t have the lack luster dazzling experience these other reviewers tout. Hype… Please check the buttons below to rate my review!

Great slice of nostalgia! Love the dogs! Kind of a different take on chili sauce. Very bean based, but delicious. The rootbeer is INDESCRIBABLY yum! Always ice cold!

Huntington has been voted as the hot dog capital of the US, but this is the best of the best. Sure Sam’s, Midway, Frosttop, and Hillbilly are fine places to get a dog. But if you want a great steamed hot dog with the a meat sauce that is not matched anywhere in the Tri-State or US come here. The BBQ Pork is another pleasant surprise with a root beer that is perfect for washing it down. Speaking of the Stewart’s Original Root Beer, you can find anywhere in the US now. But the flavor of the coleslaw&meat sauce, I wish you could put one on each corner in every major city in the US. Just grab a few or a few dozen… and enjoy.

This place is the must-visit every time my WV native in-laws return to Huntington, complete with taking a dozen or more dogs home. You won’t find any foodie toppings or gourmet sausages here. The hot dogs taste like whatever you might buy at the grocery store; it’s the pillowy steamed buns and mystery sauce that make them special… there’s chili, there’s mustard… whatever else, it’s pretty tasty. The root beer is legendary, too. I passed on that(they don’t make diet), but everybody else got a frosty mug of it, and they all say they don’t care for root beer unless it’s here. They also make burgers and fries, I think; you have to go inside to see a menu, though. There’s no inside seating, you carry it out or let them bring it to your car. There are a couple of outside tables, but on a 104-degree day, we stayed in the air-conditioned car. Service is quick, and we got 6 dogs and 4 root beers for less than $ 15.

The hot dog itself is standard. What makes it taste so good are the toppings. The chili is spot-on delicious, and whatever all else they put on there makes for a pretty awesome hot dog. The service is nice, as they deliver everything out to your car. But on a hot summer day and we’re too cheap to leave the engine running for the A/C? Yeah, not so exciting.

Ok, now, I’m from Kansas City. Born and raised. But my dad’s side of the family hails from West by-God Virginia, and I’ve been here for several family reunions, funerals, etc. Want to know one thing that is ALWAYS a fixture? Yep. You guessed it — STEWARTSHOTDOGS. How can a hot dog be this delicious you ask? Well, it’s simple. The sauce. The steamed bun. The hot dog. Put those three things together and BOOM. Perfect Hot Dog. And, the famous Stewarts Root Beer being the sweet nectar of the gods that it is, got it’s start here and is an absolute necessity when visiting this fine establishment. This place is an absolute must. Whether you’re just passing through, or staying for any period of time, you can’t miss out on these legendary hot dogs. You just can’t.

This is one of those places you have to visit when you come to Huntington. It has been there for years. They serve the regular hotdog stand fare(bbq sandwiches, crinkle fries, etc.) You can order slaw and sauce on your hotdog. I would encourage you to try at least one dog loaded just for the experience. The rootbeer is also a must try. I cannot say you are going to be wowed by Stewart’s Hotdogs but it is a nice drive in to experience and share with family.

How can I be the first person to review a Huntington WV institution? All of us have had Stewart’s root beer, and this is where it was invented. Now, if you have ever had the opportunity/need to go to Huntington, WV you know that there is a lot this town lacks besides good dentists and sedans, good food. Yep, for my entire week of visiting my great grandparents, I ate nothing except the 5 star cuisine that is Denny’s and biscuit barn, dairy queen and this place. You have to have their root beer and chili dog and then you have taken a piece of Americana with you.
