Specialties
I specialize in animals & wildlife portraits, vivid color portraits, florals. As an artist I use watercolors and acrylics for the most part, but I was trained as a oil painter in college.
Not only do I offer commission work for people I do teach classes and workshops in my studio.
Rick Adkins hails from Scottsboro, Alabama, where he spent his childhood days lying on a hardwood floor drawing and dreaming of a life working as a professional artist. He recently left a decade-plus career in hair styling to pursue his childhood art dreams professionally. The work Adkins creates in his Lowe Mill studio is a constant exploration of color and technique. In many paintings he employs a traditional mode of layering and blending pigments, but in his more fearless works Adkins lets entire compositions be taken over by chaotic watercolor washes before slowly restoring order using masked and painted areas of line and form. Visit him in Studio #108 at Lowe Mill ARTS & Entertainment soon!
History
Established in 2011.
I have been painting for many years in my home studio: I opened a public studio space at Lowe Mill Arts & Entertainment in 2013. This public space acts as my studio, gallery, as well as my classroom.
