This place serves the best sushi and hibachi I have ever had. The head sushi chef, Kim, is a petite Korean woman with a ready smile and wave at her customers, first time or returning. She’s got a razor sharp memory for customer preferences. This place encourages omakase orders and customized rolls or sashimi. You get the feeling that the most important thing to the chef is that you love the food and it is customized to your liking. You can even request a list of ingredients and leave it up to her and her chefs to present it in a delicious way. The presentation of the food is amazing and the prices are very reasonable. I was once served a dish with a garnish of a hand cut carrot in the shape of a butterfly. The butterfly had been cut from a single piece of carrot and it wasn’t flat, it had its wings up like it had just alighted on the dish. They make these handmade ponzu pickled sliced onions that are delicious and I can’t recommend enough. They are generally part of a roll but I always ask for them as a side as well. They pair perfectly with sashimi. The restaurant is unassuming outside but beautiful, warm and welcoming inside. A real keeper that I can’t recommend enough!

Attended here based on Unilocal reviews alone, we drove from Grand Prairie area to give it a try – so delicious!!! The rattlesnake roll is officially my favorite! Service is great once we ordered we didn’t have to wait long for our food. Definitely will be returning here for sushi from now on.

I’ve been to a million(ok, not a million) other places in Dallas/Ft. Worth and lots of fancy sushi restaurants in big cities across the US… There are other places I love because they’re next to the Ocean, but when I’m home, nothing compares to Ahoyama. I don’t know if it’s the cucumber salad, sushi, specially sliced fruit or Kim & Ginny who always greet me by name… Anytime I go somewhere else to try something new– I always wish I would have gone to Ahoyama. Irreplaceable.

The bento boxes are very satisfying. The Donkatsu was well fried and the entire box had a good variety of California roll, dumplings, tempura and rice. Highly recommend the bentos and the spider roll. The outside decorations look dreary but the inside is very well decorated. Definitely don’t judge this place by the cover

Don’t let it’s diner look scare you off. I have eaten here twice off the advice of Unilocal and it proved to be a pleasant experience. The amount of food you get for the price was worth it. The sushi was on par with a lot of the restaurants in this area. I would recommend experienceing them at least once to see if you like them.

We would return! Fun menu and I’d like to try more of the fresh rolls. Cowboy Roll $ 15 tons of tempura calamari on top of crab roll with a couple sauces. Good but rolls fell apart and calamari was tough. Large portion but was heavy and messy. Special K $ 14 roll was delicious. Spicy crab, cucumber, tuna. Would order it again.

We had been to this place about 15 years ago and it was terrible so I’m guessing there is new ownership for sure! This place definitely surpassed my expectations! Everything we ordered was truly amazing and we have eaten at some amazing sushi restaurants all over… The place was busy and with good reason. The staff was pretty friendly… Best of all! … Unlike most places around here we didn’t walk out smelling like the dishes everyone ate! Haha I will definitely be going here as my close go to sushi place… Uh oh. Maybe I should keep it a secret hehe

Crunchy tuna and New Ninja roll was great. Side salad was great. Sea weed that we got with chicken katsu was splendid. Katsu itself was just OK. Ambience and service added to the experience

The cucumber salad was good, but when I got my bento box, it was cold. I had the spicy crunchy roll, California, and spider. Not what we expected. It was warm from the fried items and not as creamy as I thought. I also had green tea that was room temperature. Service is well, very friendly.

This is a good restaurant considering I didn’t try out their nigiri/sashimi but instead got a sushi roll. Would highly recommend.

Super sassy ladies at the counter serving up some fresh rolls and sashimi! Great for to go if you are in a hurry also. I ordered a lunch deal to go that included spicy tuna, California rolls, miso soup and a big salad with a yummy Asian dressing. Pretty much just the basics. I’m going to branch out next time and get something more creative as they have a ton of different items on the menu. It is beautiful inside too and super clean. I’d love to come for lunch on a day when I’m not working, have a drink at the sushi bar and just kick back. It is in a tiny shopping center too so don’t blink or else you will miss it. So glad it is close to work though! There are actually some decent non chain type places around here too so this joint just got added to the list. I will be back soon and very soon. Believe it.

Went in today for a late lunch with a friend and I’m pretty impressed. For some reason the outside didn’t really had me going but that changed once I saw the menu. I like the fact that they do have pictures of the different type of sushi rolls they have so that helps out a lot. We both decided to get a be to box and it came with so much food we couldn’t finish our boxes. They even asked us if things were okay because we didn’t finish our food. It had about 6 pieces of sashimi, 6 pieces of sushi, 4 pieces of a California roll, 2 pieces of shrimp tempura and a sweet potato tempura. Also came with a miso soup and a salad. I don’t know what kind of dressing they have on that salad but it was addicting!!! The shrimp tempura was delicious, came out so crispy and light on the the batter. I will def be coming here more often!

My wife and I travel all over the world, and this allows us to try the finest restaurants along the way. In dissension to the assertion that the only good sushi(or more aptly, sashimi) is exclusive to coastal locales, I offer — BALDERDASH!!! Of the ten finest sashimi restaurants we have visited, only one is in Cali, three of our top ten are in the state of Texas. We eat sushi/sashimi on average of 2 – 3 times per week, not to say we are experts but we are certainly«seasoned veterans». On to the task at hand — Ahoyama — In my opinion, a sushi restaurant distinguishes itself by: 1) Freshness of ingredients 2) Creativity and ability of chef to make timely recommendations — Omakase 3) Presentation 4) Staff Demeanor(Friendly, welcoming, prompt) It is with these four factors in mind that I bestow the five star rating!!! While the fresh fish selections available at Ahoyama do not include some of my favorites(uni, jellyfish, bluefin, fugu/blowfish will not be found here) this review isn’t about what they do not have — it is about what they do have!!! And Ahoyama has as impeccably fresh salmon, tuna, albacore and yellowtail sashimi that you will find anywhere!!! Their rolls are a very interesting cacophony of contrasting flavors and textures — presented in a manner that is as pleasing to the eyes as it is the palate. Kim is as skilled as you will find, and as a bonus, she and ALL of the staff are genuinely friendly and respectful. On only our second visit, she made us feel as though were a part of the«family». We have been here many, many times and have never been dis-satisfied. We will continue to visit regularly and I think anyone who would like to enjoy a great dinner should also.

The sashimi here is quite amazing. Everything is fresh and perfectly colored. The fish is delicate, but the flavor is profound. Everyone is friendly on the staff and they seem to have quite a few regulars as well! Overall, this is a very busy restaurant, but they will still make time to ensure your food is delicious.

Very happy with this place. My friend came by and wanted to go to a sushi place further away. Why? She hadn’t been here yet and didn’t know better(insert«bless your heart» here if you’re a Southerner or «duh» for everyone else). She even tried getting out of it a couple times on the way over there. It’s by the Sprouts. Cozy décor; friendly service. There’s even a really cute waiter I look for. The menu has everything. When I get sushi I go for Big Ass Spicy Scallop Roll(uhh don’t order it here under that name. Try«Volcano Roll» instead). Their version here is topped with smelt egg and avocado. The avocado seemed random but it really worked. Her roll of choice(Big Ass Fried Crab and Cream Cheese) was also on it. Service was slow that night(I wanted YOU cute waiter!) ‘cuz our waitress was bogged down. Luckily the sushi chef brought us our food, so the teamwork was commendable.

I only give something 5 stars when it’s just crushes the competition. I can honestly say this is the best Sushi in Dallas or Fort Worth! Absolutely Incredible preparation and ingredients. They also let you use brown rice in your sushi and most places that do this screw it up! If you want to die and go to Sushi heaven without going to Japan, this place would suffice. Great job to the owners for staying so consistent.

Décor: 3.5÷5 –The tables are spaced out so you aren’t bumping elbows with anyone nearby –They can accommodate large parties of 8 or more. Service: 3.5÷5 –The food is served as they are completed so if you have a large party, someone will most likely finish their food before the last person gets served –The server was great at making sure our drinks were filled Food: 3⁄5 –Cowboy Roll is probably the best bang for the buck if you’re looking to carb up. You get this Mt Everest of rolls piled with fried calamari. Def not for those on a diet. –Rattlesnake Roll has shrimp tempura topped with avocado and freshwater eel. The roll was good however the chef was a bit too generous with the eel sauce –Too much eel sauce under the new Ninja roll. If you don’t eat quickly, the rice will absorb the sauce, making it unpalatable. –I was told the pepper seared tuna is delicious as well as the ahi tower.
