Stark Services

After 23 years of faithful service terminating in a cracked heat exchange which resulted in dangerous levels of Carbon Monoxide being released into my home, I am now the proud owner of a brand new Heating and Cooling system installed by Stark Services. The service call had to do with an odd noise coming out of my furnace which ended up alerting my tech to the danger because of a standard check performed as part of their assessment. The tech ended up waiving the cost of the visit (which happened to be quite reasonable anyway), knowing the expense I was about to incur.
From the time of the diagnosis to the completion of the installation, less than 36 hours had elapsed. I don’t think you can expect this kind of turn around time in the warm summer months, but from the AM tech assessment on Day 1, to the PM priced and contracted installation still on Day 1 to 7 PM on Day 2, the entire installation was complete. All components were in stock and the team of 4 was onsite on Day 2 by 10 a.m. Included in the installation was the removal of the old system (attic and outside components), installation of attic furnace, blower and outside condenser unit. I also had a new thermostat (state of the ART smart thermostat that includes a mobile app) installed, an additional 8 inches of insulation shot in the attic, a new return added to the 2 existing and several new ducting runs which improved overall efficiency of the system.
A word about Quality. As for the equipment, I got a pretty consistent response in my research that all the major brands are very similar under the hood. It was clear that the most important aspect of an installation is the service techs performing the job. Their knowledge and expertise allows your system to reach it’s potential and often will prevent future problems. I ended up choosing a Lennox system which support the local economy and looks attractive on the outside of my home. They also had the tech I was seeking for home automation by allowing me to set my thermostat from my cell phone any where in the world. The app is a bit buggy on my Android device and needs improving, but the geo-​fencing feature which will turn my system down when I go more than a prescribed distance away from the house and the learning feature means that I should get a fairly efficient use of my heating and cooling dollars. The guys doing the installation did a great job and cleaned up their mess when they left. I did require repair of a minor crack in my attic door and a few registers that needed to be replaced the next day, but all was done to my satisfaction.

I was contacted by the owner of the company and he explained things in more detail to me in regards to the charges we originally had for the repair. Perhaps some things were not properly communicated at the time of the service, but I appreciate the fact they spent some extra time to get things sorted out.

Well if I had to wait for my regular A/​C repair man to check his messages and get back to me I would be sweating my ass off right now at midnight! Instead I called Stark Services and was told they would set me a time between 2 an 5 (on a Saturday) I was happy with that but then I got a call 30 minutes later telling me the tech will be there in 30 min by then I was overjoyed it was HOT ! So the A/​C tech Derrick shows in 25 got right on it and explained everything and tells me a few things I didn’t know which I was very glad for will be changing my A/​C repairs and yearly check ups on it to Stark Services not just for the reasonable price but also the people very knowledgeable and great customer service and it’s nice to find someone you can trust to do a job right and not cheat you! We had this company come out about 2 ½ years ago when our a/​c went out. I wish I remembered the technician’s name, but I do remember how thorough and knowledgable he was. He checked the ducts and furnace and took into account our window placement and everything when he suggested a new a/​c unit. We weren’t ready to get a new one at that time (we were about to have our first child) but he was able to get the a/​c working again but didn’t know how long it would last. Well, it lasted us 2 more summers!
When our a/​c quit working again, I made sure to call this company again. They still had all our info on file and came out early the next day. Ralph and Derek greeted us, checked the thermostat, the ducts in attic and the unit itself of course.
Some things that put these guys apart from other companies:
–Put shoe protectors on when they come inside your house. Every time!
–Made sure you watch them weigh a container of coolant before putting it in the machine and then after, so you know you are only paying for what you are getting exactly.
–Ralph asked me several times if I had any questions and even helped expand our knowledge of a/​c units and how they worked. Didn’t get defensive when my mother asked him stuff about what she had read online and air conditioners, he was actually impressed with all she knew! What he said actually matched what she had read online too.
–Gave us several options on what we can do to fix our unit (he could guarantee the part he could replace but couldn’t give us peace of mind since it was an old machine he was putting the part in. and could go at any second)
–Ralph and Derek were very respectful and polite to me and my mother, even when he called the secretary to set up an appointment with a salesman he spoke very kindly to her too. Got love a guy who is good to women! I know most women probably don’t know a whole lot about a/​c stuff, but he was nice enough to try and teach us some stuff and gave us cheap temporary tricks we could do in a pinch to get our unit working again if it goes out again.
–Got us an appointment at night (so my husband could be there too) that same day with salesman and honored our coupon we got off Unilocal and even said the money we paid for the coolant he put in today could be put towards a new unit!
Honestly, we’ve had other companies come out and you won’t find a better, thorough, knowledgable or nicer company than Stark. Ask for Ralph!
Beau came out at 7pm as promised and we were able to purchase a 3.5 ton machine (everyone else said we needed a 5 ton and said nothing about our duct work) and were able to fix our duct work in the attic to be more efficient (we already knew our setup was bad, but non of the other companies looked at it or even mentioned it). I feel we got a great deal and they have so many great warranties and guarantees we are definitely getting the most out of our money. We’re even getting a deal on installation because we’re getting it done on July 4^th which is a slow day for them!
Installation went well. The only issue was that they installed the wrong thermometer. We were told we’d be getting one that could be controlled by your phone and that is NOT what was installed. They told us it wouldn’t be a problem and they’d install it later. 3 weeks later we finally have a date for them to switch it. To be fair, it’s probably because my husband forgot to call them back to set up an appointment.

Jonathan with Stark came out today for routine maintenance on our hvac system. He was professional, friendly, knowledgeable and very thorough. They installed our new system in April 2014. This company has been around for a long time and the reason for that is because of their great customer service and the great quality of their work! Our water heater was replaced by Stark too in February 2015. The technician was Devon and we had the very same quality service from him. They may charge a bit more, but with your home, your largest investment, you get what you pay for and we want our homes to last and function well. Thank you again Stark!

So the tech comes out and says he «thinks» its a bad blower motor and h’ell call me the next day with a quote… First, he never calls back until I call asking about the quote… then a manager calls back and quotes $ 1,150.00 to replace a blower motor??? I called the manufacture and the motor and capacitor together are $ 98.55 my cost and the motor bolts in with 4 bolts… shouldn’t take more than 30 minutes to remove the old one and install the new one! … When I confronted him on the costs and asked how much the motor was he said «we don’t quote parts by them selves». This guy is a real slime ball.
This is not a reputable company. I feel like they were trying to rip me off and take advantage of me.
I will never use them again. Buyer be very aware!
