History
Established in 1901.
The Hutchinson Public Library was organized just after the turn of the last century and has been growing and evolving ever since. After moving into the Carnegie-funded building located at the corner of 5th Avenue and Main Street in 1904, library use rose quickly. The building was expanded in 1915. By the late 1940’s the building had reached capacity and a new site was located at 9th Avenue and Main Street. A new library was built there and opened in 1951. Since that time the building — and the service offered within — have expanded and evolved to meet the times.
