Delectable Cakery LLC is a commercial bakery that is located in the Washington DC Metropolitan area. The cakery is known for its legendary Sweet Potato Cake. Delectable Cakery’s story started in 1988, when avid baker Laurine Helen Lowery mailed her son an age-​old family recipe for a rich, moist cake made of fresh sweet potatoes. A decade later, her son, Derek Lowery opened Delectable Cakery with the family’s Sweet Potato Cake as the cornerstone of the Cakery. Once the Sweet Potato Cake was shared with others, it took on a life of its own, allegedly inciting a shoving match at an office potluck over the last slice. Because of the cake’s popularity in the Washington DC Metropolitan region, the Sweet Potato Cake was later recognized and referred to as «The DC Sweet Potato Cake».
