Mary’s Sweet Shoppe

I feel so bad, this place has been open for over a year and I am just first discovering it. I love an ice cream shop. They have 20 different flavors, with your choose of waffle cone, regular cone, in a dish or in a waffle dish plain or dipped in chocolate. The scoopers are friendly and patient, even if you want to taste many of the flavors. My first trip I only sampled three different flavors before I made my choice. Thank you for this little treasure in Columbia.

They carry Cedar Crest ice cream (Wisconsin).
I was going to get two scoops in a bowl, until I asked how big the scoop was. It’s enormous. So I just got one: praline pecan. The other one would have been black cherry.
It was the biggest scoop of ice cream I’ve ever had in my life. Criminently. How could someone eat two? And I don’t know how someone could get two scoops in a cone, eat it before it melts and not get brain freeze.
They also had a case of confections. Truffles were on sale. Buy 3. Get 1 free.
My college chum got 4 red velvet truffles. I was getting the idea that she was pretty focused.
I got 4 different truffles: red velvet, German chocolate cake, carrot cake and chocolate mousse.
The ice cream was terrific. We sat in the ice cream parlor area. There are napkins and a nice iced water container in the busing area, so you can get your own.
Ice cream makes me thirsty.
I shared the chocolate mousse truffle with my son last night. It was not spectacular.
Today I tried the others:
red velvet was very moist, good flavor.
German chocolate cake was much coconut, and that’s all I could taste.
Carrot cake was fine.
Overall, not stellar on the truffles
They had a lot of other lovely confections in the case. For a lot more money.
For $ 8 and change I got the wonderful ice cream and four truffles that were OK.

This store has delicious home made ice cream. My husband takes me here for our 1^st date. About 2 years ago.

Either I expect too much or I am having a bad weekend. Today myself and three other people went to Mary’s Sweet Shop for a little treat. At the time we went they happened to be hosting a child’s birthday party. While the counter person was scooping our ice cream she said oh by the way we have a birthday party so there is no place you can sit inside. I asked if they were closed to the public, she said no and almost as an after thought she said you could sit outside and eat. Today was a very windy day!!! Not to mention late February ~ thank goodness today happened to be an incredible February day for Missouri. She gave me my total then said, by the way we don’t have a credit card machine here today so cash is preferred but if you need to use debit or credit I can run next door (Blue Owl) and run it. First indoor seating is difficult and now paying the bill is going to be an inconvenience… (credit card machine was being used at a convention or something…). PLEASE BUSINESS OWNERS ask your selves how these situations look to your customers. FYI ~ If your business is going to be open to the public and host special events at the same time you need to have enough indoor seating for both events. If your business is going to participate in events outside of your shop don’t take the equipment with you making business transactions a challenge for your patrons and employees!!! I am not going back out this weekend!!!

When i found out that the blue owl was going to be expanding into another building, i was like wow. However, i should mention that this is just another business owned by the person whom owns the blue owl. Technically it’s right next to the blue owl so it’s cool. However, this is an old time ice cream shop and i find that to be awesome since there isn’t many left like this anywhere. Now, onto to the food itself. OH MY gosh! I had the gooey butter sensation, and let me tell you it was really worth the money. I am a slave for anything with gooey butter! However, they have alot of different types of sundae’s for your eating glory. So, i left a happy girl! I’ll be back when i can afford to put on some pounds, but fear not i will be back!
