Planned Parenthood of Kansas & Mid-Missouri

My job does not offer health insurance and I was looking around for a place to administer my birth control shot. My boss suggested Planned Parenthood as a low cost option. I knew very little about them but had a mental image in my head of bombings, radical anti-​abortion activists, and second rate healthcare. I could not have been more wrong. The ladies who work there are very nice and you can tell they genuinely care about your health. They explained the risks of the birth control shot to me and this office has been a great resource for me. I know they get a lot of bad press but I don’t think it is a fair view of the organization as a whole.

I cannot properly express my hatred for this location. The nurses aren’t the problem, it’s the completely incompetant and unorganized staff that I hate.
FIRST ISSUE W/​THIS LOCATION:
In November 2009, I was told I had a common medical problem. Seven months later in June 2010, they had no record of ever telling me about said problem (which isn’t a big deal because what they told me wasn’t a big deal but it’s nice to know they have no priorities when it comes to giving correct information and keeping track of it). Good job on that record keeping!
SECOND ISSUE W/​THIS LOCATION:
Up until September of 2012, I’d been on birth control for six years because my menstrual cramps are extremely severe my first few days and birth control helped me have a tolerable cycle. I was given incorrect information by a staff member who’d been there for years (so there’s no excuse for the «mix up» at all, it was just plain carelessness) which led to me being without birth control for over a year.
In June 2012, I picked up my three-​months supply of birth control pills and was going to make an appointment for my next pap because I knew it was coming up. The first incompetant woman said they’d call me and schedule an appointment, which is not something they’d ever done in the past, but they were always making changes so I just rolled with it since she wasn’t trying to schedule an appointment for me right then. Months passed and I’d forgotten about it until it was time to get my next three months of pills, I figured I’d make the appointment when I went in to get them. The second incompetant woman – who was a complete bitch to everyone she talked to while I was there – told me they don’t call patients to make appointments and that I’d have to wait until I had my annual pap done to get more birth control. There was no «Here’s a month to get you by until your appointment in a couple of weeks,» which is something I was recently told they’ve always done.
Every time I tried to make an appointment during that year+, I was on my period. I was suggested to do a walk-​in but didn’t have the time to sit up there all day to maybe get in. The one day I did go in for a walk-​in, three different people cut infront of me in the line to fill out the sign-​in paper, so I left.
THIRD ISSUE W/​THIS LOCATION:
I’ve recently had to go to the ER for my menstrual cramps and as usual, I was suggested to get back on birth control. After calling around and not being able to get in anywhere for another two menstrual cycles, I bit the bullet and made an appointment with Planned Parenthood. Luckily, they were able to get me in on a day that wasn’t going to interfere with my period. I didn’t have high hopes at all and I was right not to because this experience wasn’t any better than before.
Incompetant woman #3 didn’t bother asking for my ID (anyone wanna commit insurance fraud? You can probably get away with it there since they don’t care to match your ID with your insurance cards) and when it was time to pick up my prescription at Walmart, she failed to include my insurance information so the pharmacy employee tried telling me it was gonna be nearly $ 200 for one month of pills. Most people wouldn’t question that but I figured it was Planned Parenthood’s dumbass staff screwing something up as usual so I told him I have insurance, to which he replied that I’d have to give the Drop Off person my insurance cards and get back in line. I didn’t have time for all that so I had to come back the next day. I’m not sure why Planned Parenthood bothered asking for my insurance information if they weren’t going to pass the information along to the people who needed it.
Needless to say, this location needs to be shut down or have someone with a brain properly train their staff. The random health scares that they have no recollection of later, spreading of incorrect information, and lack of basic brain function among staff is unacceptable. It really shouldn’t be this much of a hassle to get birth control.
