I gave them 1 star because of how they treated and talked to my husband. There is a younger girl working there who spoke so rudely she was talking to my husband like he was a piece of crap, as if he was an illegal immigrant and didn’t understand english. Instead of helping and asking questions nicely to obtain information she was talking down to him and taking our documents out of envelopes as proof of residency and threw them as if we were wasting her time. They kept asking for a green card 7 times when he clearly had an authentic birth certificate, but treated us like we bought or stole it. Like really?!! Because, I can steal government documents and imprinted seals and use them and use it at the bmv. RIDICULOUS!!! I do not care what profession you are in, but that does not give you the right to treat anybody that way!!! If you don’t like your job helping people, this is clearly not the right job for you! Being nice and courteous does not exist in this bmv at all!!! I was not in my right mind to speak with a supervisor because I was so angry I would have said something I would regret. Very disappointed with the service I had today! To add to that, that same girl was nice to everybody she helped after helping us, I sat and watched how nice she was with them. I guess not looking«american» enough, she can talk and treat people any way she wants! She needs to not be in customer service at all!!!

I went in to get a new id after I moved. The employee I worked with was rude and unhelpful about what to bring for proper identification. When I expressed confusion the employee was short with me and did not offer further suggestion.

I know what you’re thinking. BMV is equivalent to the second circle of hell. The Beech Grove office saw me so quickly I didn’t have time to check in on Unilocal. The lady who handled my transaction, Lisa, was friendly and extremely helpful. I was attempting to change from KY to IN resident officially. She explained I would have to retake the driver’s test and vision exam. Even though I forgot one document she still let me take my test and come back later to complete the remainder. I would strongly encourage this branch over the Nora and Michigan Ave ones… They are your typical 2 hour waste of your life. The rating is based on Government offices; I literally couldn’t imagine a more streamline process.

Contrary to everyone’s assessment of the BMV, I was able to get in and out here with an updated registration and a new Indiana driver’s licence in under an hour, and that’s with some document error. If you get there about 15 minutes before opening on a Saturday you won’t wait at all for service. For people who have to deal with the pubic all day/all week, the agents are remarkably friendly and helpful. Do go online and read the paperwork requirements thoroughly before you go in to avoid having to make multiple trips. One note — if you need pieces of mail to prove your residency, make sure they’re from the last 60 days. Otherwise you will have to go back out to your car and scrounge around for another piece of mail that you hypothetically have in there because your car’s a mess.
