V and I had a date night once, and I took my parents from OC, to Harry&Izzy’s in downtown location. I enjoyed both visits fine. Since their main served is steak, me having to enjoy their Fried Green Tomato Sandwich doesn’t give me much credential to evaluate their plates, but my father has enjoyed their steaks very much. For V and I both, we felt our plates were rather too salty resulting us not finishing and taking much of our food home. Nonetheless, Harry&Izzy’s provide fine dining experience suitable for business dining or some special occasions.

The food is great but more significant is the service. Our wait person Barbie, was wonderful. Yes, she is exceptionally skilled as a waiter but more significant is her genuine care, understanding, and sensitivity to the needs of her customers. She went out of her way to make sure 84 year old mom was comfortable and well taken care of. She even put us at the table reserved for Peyton Manning. The food was terrific. Great Caesar salad, loved the prime rib sandwich and tomato and mozzarello, the bread they service is wonderful but the service, the service! It is rare to find someone with empathy and compassion, humor, intuitivity, and great knowledge anywhere on the planet and Barbie is all of that and more.

UPDATE: Jennifer from Harry & Izzy’s reached out and we discussed my dining experience. She was apologetic about what happened and made things right. Kudos to management for taking customer feedback seriously.

Went here for the first time as a part of a corporate dinner. We all started with the shrimp cocktail appetizer which is what their sister restaurant, St. Elmo’s, is famous for. I’ve had it at St. Elmo’s before and it’s just as spicy as I remember; it took me some time to finish it as my sinuses were being cleared out but it’s good. For an entrée I got the New York strip Oscar style with a side of red mashed potatoes. The steak was delicious and the crab meat from ordering it Oscar style was sweet and delicious. The mashed potatoes were so smooth and wonderful. We also got a basket of dinner rolls and let me tell you THEYARESOGOOD. I tried to refrain from eating too many before receiving my entrée but they were so addicting. They come covered in butter and herbs with a crispy exterior and so soft on the inside. As a dessert, I shared the bread pudding. It is huge and can easily be shared by ATLEAST4 people. At the table they pour a good amount of Wood Reserve bourbon all around the bread pudding so it’s boozy… but so delicious. This was my first time ever trying bread pudding and I’m glad my first experience was here. It comes in a cast iron skillet so you get the crispy bread at the sides which were my favorite parts. There is a good amount of ice cream and whip cream that adorns the top also. I highly recommend sharing this dessert!

Are waitress was awesome. She was fun her name was Magen. I’ve been here many times. But tonight it was a big cluster due to the manager. a huge dinner all steaks. This was a large dinner me as a guest with a major corporation. There was apps, salads, wine, 3 bottles and steaks. The payer of the dinner had plastic in her steak. Sent it back she did not receive her meal and we were done. She did get pieces of our meal. But manager did come to our table. said hey I was waiting for it and was going to bring out. My thought manager should say Chef fire me a bone on filet fast, not I was waiting. She said I shared others food I’m good. How about no steak I’ll take a dessert. He said You can micro wave in your room. We said we shared food so she can eat with others. He went on about micro waving. It was insane at a high end place he continued to say micro wave it. Plus he said I won’t charge you for either wow that is kind. Then he said if you are full why a dessert Megan. You are a star. Your manager needs to go to Applebee’s. They must think they deserve the business and treat eaters as idiots. Who says micro wave a steak. I won’t be back even on a corp dinner.

I was told that steak was a must-have in Indy, so I came here with a group of coworkers. It’s owned by the same people as St Elmo, but was explained to us as being more eclectic while St Elmo is more traditional. We hadn’t planned ahead, so as a walk in party, Harry and Izzy’s was the shorter wait. I started with the famous shrimp cocktail– great although people make too much of the cocktail sauce! It’s just a basic horseradish cocktail sauce, pretty common in NYC seafood restaurants. My steak(a 14 oz NY Strip) was excellent– cooked a perfect medium rare with a salty exterior. People in our group ordered the salmon, pasta and burgers, and a reported their food was excellent as well.

Always a great restaurant before attending sporting events! My family went here before the Pacers game this past Sunday. We chose to sit in the bar, which has a relaxed atmosphere. It’s bright and airy and really inviting! You cannot go wrong with the shrimp cocktail at Harry and Izzy’s. I first experienced this amazing appetizer at St. Elmo’s and now I just love it! I ordered the wedge salad for my second course and then the 8 oz filet with green beans. The wedge was huge! I ended up splitting this dish with my boyfriend. The blue cheese and bacon that accompanies the lettuce is truly amazing. My filet was cooked perfectly and the side of green beans was delicious an lightly sautéed. The portions at Harry and Izzy’s are quite large. I ended up taking half of my steak and green beans home. Harry and Izzy’s is a wonderful addition to downtown! Nice, relaxing steakhouse with top notch food.

I’ve came here many times over the last few years. It’s consistently great. The service is top notch as you’d expect from the best of the best restaurants in the city. The food is alway amazing and the building itself is elegant. Never disappoints. The menu is actually well diverse if you want a small easy meal downtown and not a banquet steak dinner. Although I’m always talking myself into the full dinner experience.

I had a dinner meeting and we decided to meet at Harry and Izzys since I wanted to try the shrimp cocktail. It was packed at 6 pm on a weeknight but there was a basketball game and some special event going on in the restaurant. I perused the wine menu and honestly, it’s pretty sad. For a place serving steaks they should have some decent red wine on the menu. There was nothing that was particularly great by the glass or half bottle. I guess maybe they try to get you to buy the whole bottle? Even the bottles of Cab seemed pretty lackluster, Duckhorn was the only one that stood out. I ordered the shrimp cocktail with the filet mignon and potatoes. The shrimp cocktail was delicious. The shrimp were large and sweet and the sauce was extremely spicy. I thoroughly enjoyed it. Now our waitress didn’t bring out the orders, another gentleman did. My friend had gotten a ribeye and was served a filet. The waiter apologized and immediately brought out the ribeye, he must have grabbed the wrong plates. Meanwhile I thought I was served the correct thing but my meat was really overdone. So it was the right cut but perhaps was cooked to someone else’s liking? I had ordered it medium and it was well done. The steak was not seasoned, was chewy, didn’t have much fat content/not juicy. For a steak restaurant, they really messed their signature dish up. The potatoes were fine, nothing special. We got the brownie for dessert and it was delicious. So overall my meal was good. I just think they steaks and the wine selection should be better for the prices they charge.

I describe this place to out of towners as St. Elmo’s hipper, younger brother. All around nice, classic restaurant that can be enjoyed without breaking the bank. You can use the valet, or simply park in the mall garage off of Georgia Street and catch the elevator/escalator up and you’re right there. Plenty of food options to try, I usually slide the garbage salad in as a starter or an entrée — it never disappoints!

Harry & Izzy’s is the place to go when your looking for a good steak at a reasonable price if you find yourself in downtown Indy. To those unfamiliar with H&I, it can be described as St. Elmo’s more casual little brother. What makes H&I great: — You can still get St. Elmo’s classic shrimp cocktail. If you have some sinus issues, the sauce will clear that up for you — Reasonable prices in a more relaxed environment. Lunch time is the way to go if you have a smaller budget, but want to enjoy the food. — The servers are very friendly and knowledgeable about the different menus and offerings — Decent Bloody Mary’s — They do a good job of cooking your steak to order and the cuts of meat are of good quality — Lower level bar with tv’s to watch the games while enjoying your meal — Separate gluten free menu with a nice selection of items, including fries! They have a small separate dedicated fryer for fries only. They also do a really good job of handling gf orders and try to reduce possible cross contamination. A manager usually comes out to make sure of your order and verify any questions and gf procedures. — Online reservations accepted via OpenTable. If you want a specific meal time, make sure to schedule, especially prior to Pacers and Colts’ home games — Paid parking is right across the street. It is one of the Circle City garages, or you can just valet.

In the heart of downtown Indianapolis lives the famous Harry & Izzy’s. Harry & Izzy’s is my go to spot for drinks and a good quiet dinner. This steak house is a local favorite. Of course they specialize in steaks, awesome cocktails and top notch service. We’ve had everything on the menu and you really can’t go wrong. Our go to is the filet sliders, Brussels sprouts and a wedge salad. Soooooo Delicious. Anytime I come home to visit we MUST stop by! The pomegranate and/or lemon drop cocktails are defiantly worth a try. And if you are craving something sweet try the signature brownie… yum! This is a perfect spot for girls night out, date night or if you want a really good meal.

While in Indy for business I was craving some pasta for dinner. I always stay downtown Indy when I’m in town and have seen Harry & Izzy’s a few times. The first night I stopped in around 5:30 and every outside table was empty. One of the hostesses started to ask if I wanted to sit inside or out(after I’d said I didn’t have a reservation) and the other hostess interrupted her to tell me the only available seats were at the bar. So I went elsewhere and came back the next night. Same story, only Jerky McAnnoyed wasn’t at the hostess stand so I was able to get a table outside. The service(aside from that one hostess) was really good. My server was very attentive and made sure I had everything I needed. I spent most of my meal on the phone(as I do most of the time I’m traveling for business) and my server didn’t interrupt but re-filled my water glass and continually came around to check up on me. I was craving some pasta so I jumped mouth first off the Kate-safe wagon and had fettuccine with salmon. It was delicious. Probably enough food for about 4 people. I’m sure I’ll stop by Harry & Izzy’s again in the future. I’ll definitely be checking out some of their healthier options next time I’m in town.

I had a large group of colleagues in town from across the country and chose this spot because they were able to accommodate us. I was braced for mediocrity, as my only other Harry and Izzy’s experience was at their Northside location. The two could not be more different! Everyone loved the shrimp cocktail, with the fresh, enormous shrimp and flavorful(not just hot) sauce. Other appetizers like the beet salad were lovely as well. We dug into the house bread eagerly. The fried green tomatoes passed muster with the southerners in our group and shouldn’t be missed. Most people ordered filets for the main and were very happy. For desert we had bread pudding, and we all plodded heavily back up the stairs on our way out, weighed down by countless calories of satisfaction.

Atmosphere is a little nicer than casual. Purposely has an old feel and look. A lot of wood and servers are professional. Had the French onion soup and the Vegan. Food was timed well and didn’t step on each other. Soup was hot but not so much that you have to wait 20 mins for it to cook off enough to eat. A thick layer of cheese on top and not overdone with too many onions. Vegan was very colorful in appearance and had a nice heat to it. The mixture made for a good variety of textures and had a lot of flavor.

So, despite the fact that I’ve lived in Indianapolis for 16 years now, and do really enjoy a good dinner out this was my first visit to Harry & Izzy’s. I think my perception was always that the target crowd was conference attendees and those conducting business over dinner. Well, we were here for a recruiting dinner on a mid-week evening, so I guess we did fit the working dinner part of my assumption! The restaurant was full, but we were seated right on time for our reservation. Since this was my first visit, I had to try the famous shrimp cocktail. The fresh horseradish definitely makes a fabulous cocktail sauce! The $ 17.95 price tag is hefty, but I kind of saw it as an investment in a cultural experience(nice rationalization isn’t it?). I then had a strip steak prepared Izzy style which was really delicious! The steak was tender, and cooked to a perfect medium rare. I did appreciate that a side is included with the steaks; one of my pet peeves is paying $ 50 for a steak and then being charged extra for a potato or some vegetables. I opted for the sautéed green beans which were prepared with red peppers and onions — quite tasty! I didn’t try any of the desserts since I was in a meat coma from the steak, but it was a good meat coma, so no complaints! It is very easy to finish with a bill around $ 100/person for dinner, which is about the same as other high end steak houses. If you are looking to splurge on a really good steak though, this is a good option. Service was good, but a little confused at times. We had two servers even though we were a very small group. There were times where they both thought the other had already taken care of something, like taking appetizer orders, and we had to flag someone down. It is also very loud in the restaurant — expect to yell and lean in to places orders and have conversations if the restaurant is full!

A group of five of us from Sarasota came to Indianapolis for the wedding of two of our friends. Upon recommendation, we gave Harry and Izzys a try for lunch. Everything was perfect. The ambience is terrific, complementing the story of the establishment that the server told upon our request. Not only did she explain the history of the place, our server was attentive and helpful throughout our meal. She had many good suggestions and recommendations. The world famous shrimp cocktail is famous for a reason. It will definitely clear your sinuses, and is well worth the $ 18. Linse ordered the Tuscan pizza, which was delicious. Even more delicious was the smoked salmon spinach salad that I ordered. It was quite possibly the best salmon I have ever tasted, and there was plenty of it on the salad. Hi also ordered a meatball slider. It was spicy and very tasty. The selection of beers and wine and cocktails is very good. I thoroughly enjoyed our experience. My only regret is that I couldn’t go back for dinner, as we were only in town for a day.

My boyfriend and I decided on Harry and Izzy’s to celebrate our 6 monthiversary. It was my first time there, so I oohed and ahhed at the romantic atmosphere of the upper seating when we were seated for our early(5:15p) reservation. Both of us already knew exactly what we wanted before arriving(online menus are amazing — picky eaters unite!). However, the waitress decided to read what seemed like the entire menu to us. This included reading the Devour Downtown menu and listing the daily specials to include what they were cooked/seasoned with. This took what seemed like forever. I don’t know how the poor girl didn’t get caught in her words or lose her breath! First to arrive was my romaine hearts salad with the Gorgonzola on the side. I think there was more Gorgonzola than there was salad! Next comes the best part: filet mignon with mashed red potatoes and sautéed green beans. I had to send my filet back to be cooked more(ordered medium well, came medium), otherwise the meal was amazing. My boyfriend enjoyed his pepperoni pizza(remember, picky eaters!) as well. By this time, the room had filled up and was no longer the calm, romantic atmosphere I had observed prior. We delightfully finished off our meal with H&I’s signature brownie. We received a bowl of extra ice cream after asking for two scoops on the brownie per a Unilocaler’s advice. It was a $ 2.50 up charge, but worth it. Overall giving Harry and Izzy’s a four star review. The food was good, but the prices won’t have me coming back again without it being a special occasion. The servers were either overly attentive or nowhere to be found when we actually needed them, depending on how busy they were.

My two experiences at Harry & Izzy’s were pretty contrasting, like prince and the popper contrasting. Let’s start with the prince version– Treated by a friend’s family who has an account with Harry and Izzys, our party was immediately whisked away to our private room overlooking the restaurant. Our server was familiar with the family’s wine choices, was extremely charismatic, and with stars in our eyes and shrimp cocktail in our bellies we munched happily through our 3 course dinner. It was impeccable, glamorous, and I thought I’d forever rave of Harry and Izzys, until. The night my boyfriend proposed(er, fiancé! yay!), we celebrated at Harry and Izzys. We arrived a few minutes before our reservation but waited probably 15 minutes(no big). Seated at our table we anticipated service another 10 – 15 minutes before we were noticed to order our drinks(hmm.). Our server made one brief appearance and passed us off to his assistant who attended to us sporadically. The food was delicious; I won’t smudge the name of the famous shrimp cocktail, filet mignon, or brownie– I savored them all, but it was definitely bitter-sweet with our service.
