I go here whenever I’m in town for a shave and a haircut. Really good service. Really friendly barbers.

I’ve been going to Jack’s Barbershop for years! I like the old school barber shop feel. Brenda is great at taking awesome care of clients, and always keeps you entertained with current events and local happenings. :)

I recently quite working for Brenda, and instead of being adult about it she stole my barber license and refuses to give it back. If this is the sort of person you want cutting your hair then by all means go to her, but if you want a real hair cut come to me Robby Hancock, 317.427.3373

Ok, I’ve been in here twice and I waited until the second time to write a review. Lots of reasons for that. First, I’m very shy and struggle with small spaces with lots of people I don’t know. Second, I am a nervous haircut customer to begin with. And finally, this location is downtown and I stress out about parking downtown. So, a review based on my first experience would not have been fair, as those factors are not in any way controllable by the business.
So, this time, I went down there in the middle of the day on a work day. Parking in downtown is a pain in the backside, no matter what, especially since they’ve taken up so many spaces with those Blue Indy cars nobody uses. I found parking and the gentleman who cut my hair even told me they validate parking at a particular garage.
This time, there wasn’t anyone waiting. I walked in, took a seat and was quickly told it wouldn’t be more than a couple minutes. Great! They had two chairs going and the conversation was entertaining. After finishing with his current client, Ken called me over to his chair (Robby (?) cut my hair on my last visit) and asked me how I get my hair cut. I am always nervous I won’t explain it right, but he didn’t seem to have any confusion. He was friendly and talkative and definitely made me feel comfortable. The haircut looks great and they even do a straight razor neck shave. All that for $ 20? Awesome! I will also toss out there that the first haircut I got here back in December was also one of the best I’ve gotten and lasted much longer than when I get my hair cut at crappy places like Great Clips.
They are cash only, but there is an ATM within a couple steps from the front door. I was also really impressed today because they were donating their tips to the Humane Society for a puppy who had been physically abused. How awesome!
This business earned their 5-​star review and I look forward to coming back. I just need to make sure I come back on a weekday and not a weekend ;) but that’s on me.

Im a young professional. I got my haircut with the gentleman there. He is an eccentric character and he gave me a good cut. very reasonable prices too. I would say the only thing I would want is for him to show me the back of my head next time. Although he did a good job, its always a good idea to show the customer the back of his head with a separate mirror.

Stopped in when I got off my flight in from Denver… What an experience. A little hole in the wall shop in City Market, but a lot of character. If you want the authentic barbershop experience this is the place. And don’t let looks deceive you… These barbers are experts at their craft! Can’t wait to come back to town on business again.

Fast and amazing barber! Brenda is who cuts my hair but I’ve had it cut by others here and they are all great! Highly recommended! Have a beer upstairs before you wait!

I still think that Brenda gives a great haircut and at $ 20 it’s a good deal. Brenda’s still very chatty, so be prepared for that.
I’m docking a star because of a negative experience I had today. At the end of the haircut the back of my neck was cut by the straight edge. I didn’t notice it at the time (sharp blade I guess). When I got home it had bled all over my shirt and is still bleeding two hours later. I’m disappointed that Brenda didn’t mention it. There’s no way she didn’t notice what she’d done.
I’ll keep coming here. Brenda’s haircuts are great. I’ll probably just need to redirect her attention next time we get to the neck shave and make sure she’s focused.

Needed a haircut since I’ll be on the road for 3 weeks, so I stopped on into Jack’s, and might I say, it was the right choice.
Walked in to a small shop, but kept very clean. Was greeted with so much energy and pleasantness that it was infectious. Brenda was the lady that lined me up, and boy was she animated. A simple need for a haircut turned into an uplifting afternoon.
All I can say is that I wish that I was a local, because this would be my go to spot. It is a bit pricier, but you not only pay for your haircut, you pay for a wonderful experience. The old school barbershop look doesn’t hurt either!

Just received another great cut from Brenda. I love coming here and talking with George and Brenda and getting an excellent cut. Brenda has a great personality and really makes each customer feel as if they are apart of her family. It doesn’t matter if it’s your first time or 1000^th time, Brenda goes the extra mile to make you feel at home.

Decent cut, a little too chatty for me. It’s location makes it a bit tough to park. The waiting area is quite small which may make waiting painful.

Wow, this is a real barber shop with the old barber shop chairs and the atmosphere. I had Brenda and she was quick and did a great job with my hair and I didn’t have to wait long at all. This is the only best place to get a hair cut downtown.

Great cut at Jack’s this morning. George was very friendly and he did a fantastic job. Plus he gave me a great straight razor shave. I will now be a regular at Jack’s.

This is the real deal. Scissors. Razors. Clippers. Neck shaves. Brenda knew what I wanted just from looking at me with her 30 years of barbering experience, and she delivered. $ 20 + tip, money well spent.

Well, despite having had a so-​so experience the first time, I’ve found myself going back. And I’m glad I did, as that first haircut was probably an outlier. Since then I’ve had consistently good haircuts, with friendly service and a great atmosphere.

Low prices, top notch service, and a great fun experience. How could you not love Jack’s Barbershop?!
Brenda is so wonderful. When she gets going on a story, she involves everyone in the shop. Makes you feel like a big family. You can talk about anything with her. What happens at the barbershop, stays in the barbershop.

There are a few dozen reasons to love this place. Tried in vain to boil it down to the top three, but they don’t do it justice. One caveat — only Brenda has cut my hair. While George and Suela add to the charm of the place, no personal experience re: their cut quality. That aside, here it goes:
Despite being quick and cheap ($ 15, $ 20 with tip!), the haircuts are still high-​quality. Want to stress this point: unless you’re getting a shave, you’ll never spend more than 15 minutes in her chair. Expect to walk out surprised at how quickly she gets to a good result — it’s easily the best cut I’ve found in Indy.
One note: this isn’t a «hair salon» and these aren’t «hair stylists.» The barbers are quick to point out the distinction: heard one hapless sap refer to Brenda as such receive a quick (but friendly!) correction. If your hair takes 30 minutes each morning and is loaded with product, probably not the place for you.
The atmosphere is a throwback to your grandfather’s barbershop (a la Red’s) and feels less polished but more authentic as a result — a community barbershop where everyone knows everyone and people are roasting each other & swapping gossip constantly. An endearing quality, and for the more asocial types Brenda will turn it down a few notches (which admittedly is still quite a few notches above most other barbers you’ll meet). Everyone here is a character and has a ton of personality, they’ll remember you and you won’t be able to forget them.
Brenda has a seemingly-​loose steel trap of a mind — despite probably cutting (or shaving) hundreds of heads per month, she’ll still remember JUST the way you like it cut and pick up a few personal details on each trip in. It’s locally owned (by Brenda) and everyone is a big proponent of «shop locally», you can’t leave here without a recommendation to a try new vendor in City Market or info about everything from Unilocal’s Bazaar to an effin’ square potluck.
If you haven’t tried it yet, make the switch at some point. Once — and only once — I «cheated» (her phrase) and tried Red’s when Brenda was completely booked. Paid more and walked out less satisfied — so much so that I stopped in at Jack’s the next day.

Brenda’s still about as awesome as it gets!
If it’s been awhile since your last hair cut, stop on in. If it’s really been a while, the shop has moved across the way and downstairs; it’s in the restaurant area on the east side of the building.

I have been a client of Jack’s Barbershop since 2007. I refuse to go anywhere else. The haircuts are top-​notch and the shaves are like heaven on earth! Jack’s Barbershop, and Brenda, deserve 10 stars!
