I love this place because it’s right across the street from my apartment along with jaymi. She’s awesome and always does a great job on my hair.

Without exaggeration, I can say that Mark at Mary & Friends is the best stylist I have ever had. He takes his time and is very detail-​oriented, and I always leave feeling better looking and more confident! He is very open to suggestions and skilled enough to work my ideas into what can actually be done with my hair type. He offers excellent advice on products and styling, but is not pushy with up-​selling extras. The salon-​style service also comes at a very fair price! I enjoy the entire team at Mary & Friends and would be comfortable with any of the stylists (though I would NEVER leave Mark!).

I photograph weddings professionally. Mary and Friends have done the hair and makeup for several of my clients and the photographs turned out very nicely. I barely had to touch up the photos because the make up job was very professional.

I always see Jaymi Tharp when I go, but EVERYONE there seems very friendly so I doubt you would go wrong as a walk-​in. They always offer a drink and will chat– there are a lot of regulars in the salon, and the prices are good for the high quality.
Jaymi is really good at communicating and figuring out what you want before cutting it, I have never had a bad experience here. I would definitely recommend her. She usually remembers how you like your hair, even if you haven’t been in in a while. The dyes she uses do not seem to bother my sensitive skin, and last a long time even though I am not always responsible with taking care of the colour.
She is definitely a professional, I have never once had uneven bangs or bangs too-​high and I am REALLY picky about my bangs. I have been coming for about two years I think.
Definitely recommend her, and the salon itself in general.
BONUS: there is a coffee shop RIGHT NEXT DOOR that you can go sit in if you are waiting for an appointment.

Cary has been my stylist for six years and I can’t imagine going anywhere else. He’s fun, he’s creative, and he has a knack for talking you (or maybe just me) down when vacillating between shaving your head and dying your light blond hair black. I first went to Cary because he was a noted colorist in Indy. I keep going back for the laid-​back atmosphere and the quality service. And the hour of chitchat with someone who has become a friend.

I was very impressed with Mary & Friends from the moment I walked in the door. The staff is friendly and professional, and the business is extremely clean. My experiences here have all been positive, and I have never encountered anything like what the negative reviews are complaining about. I recommend Mary & Friends to all my friends.

I was shocked by the two negative reviews (which contain very similar wording and were written by friends who have written only one other review between the two of them) and feel compelled to set the record straight. I have been to Mary & Friends over a dozen times and often refer my clients, friends and husband here for hair and nail services. NEVER — NOT ONCE — have I noticed fumes or over-​powering fragrances. As a massage therapist, I am very sensitive to acquiring odors which my clients might find offensive, and I am VERY conscious of the products used on me both for the fragrances and the chemicals which can be absorbed through my skin. Jaymi uses high-​quality, mostly natural products with friendly ingredients because she, too, is aware of growing sensitivities of the general public. I know this for a fact because I always ask to read the ingredients (yes, I’m a label-​reader.) Sandra, the nail tech, stopped using shellac because of the toxicity well before I became a client. She uses high-​quality low-​environmental-​impact products and encourages her clients toward more natural manicures. She is also very conscientious about what she uses and recommends for her clients to use for optimal health. I have received work when the place was packed and even then have never experienced unpleasant air quality or anything other than GREAT service with top-​quality products in a spotless environment. Take it from a loyal regular: Mary & Friends is as good as it gets!

An absolutely wonderful place to get a haircut in Indy. While Mass Ave has more salons than you can count, Mary and Friends is head and shoulders above the rest. I always put my trust in Mark to do what is best for me and he has never let me down, with one amazing haircut after another. Sandra is a fantastic manicurist (Manicures are not just for women!) who I would recommend over anyone in the city.

Love this place! Cary knows how to cut curly hair for my husband and create new styles when I need a change! Love the atmosphere too. The staff is welcoming, AND THEY LISTEN TO YOU!

Roy Jones at Mary and Friends has been doing a great job of styling and coloring my hair for several years. I think so highly of him that I followed him from a salon in Carmel to his current downtown location. He is professional, caring, and most of all, willing and able to listen to me. Who hasn’t got horror stories about stylists? There is no drama here and no diva. Let me repeat that– No Diva. He takes the time to listen and work with me. He follows up to see how I’m doing if we have made a change. I have referred friends to him many times. He has treated them just as well.
