If I was basing this review off the people that work there(the owners), this would be a five-star review. Unfortunately, the review is based on the food and the restaurant which I found to be somewhat lacking. The food was just average and the restaurant had an ant problem and was cluttered with music equipment, a lawnmower, etc. I really wanted to like this place but came away disappointed. :(

Located in a very small strip center between a tattoo studio and a gun shop and only open Thursday-Saturday, I didn’t expect much… but was pleasantly surprised. The tiny dining room was full when I arrived, but I was getting my order to go anyhoo. I ordered a catfish dinner with cole slaw and french fries for mom and a perch dinner with potato salad and mac & cheese for myself. My order was prepared and packaged promptly… within 10 minutes I paid and was on my way home with dinner. Mom liked her catfish, which I found to be slightly greasy. My perch was cooked perfectly crispy. Our sides were good, tho, unfortunately, mom’s fries were of the steak fry variety, which she doesn’t like. Also, our dinners included 2 slices of stale white bread that was handled at least 3 times with ungloved hands in the visible kitchen. yum! And now. the big reveal. their fish dinner is about the same price as Wheatley’s but somewhat better, mostly due to the choice of sides. At Wheatley’s, one gets more fish, but their sides are awful. Hey… try them both and then judge for yourself!

I pity the fool that doesn’t love barbecue and family style sides! Mr. T’s is off the beaten path located near fields and the gun shop next door but it serves up authentic barbecue. You’ll know it when you see it because there is a big trailer smoker out front. Everybody gets to pick their choice of pulled pork, chicken, brisket, ribs or just about any kind of meat. Sides, though priced low, come out in enormous portions. I had to plan a special trip over there because they aren’t open on Sundays and they aren’t on the way to or from anything but I love it when a plan comes together.

We always look for off the beaten path, local joints when we travel. In the mood for some good bbq we found this little gem on Unilocal.Little hole in the wall place with an order counter and a handful of tables in the small dining room. We visited around 8:15 on a Thursday night. We were the only patrons. Walking in there was no rich, mouth watering bbq scent. It actually smelled… Odd. Not really sure how else to describe it. But it definitely didn’t inspire a mouth to water. I was, admittedly, disappointed and almost left. However, we were already there and we like to get the full experience. So we stayed. We both ordered the rib tip dinner. When dinner arrived at our table and we opened the box, we were hit with the delicious bbq aroma that we had expected /hoped the whole place would smell like. We dug in. It was really really delicious. Pros: Excellent food. Very friendly and fast service. Cons: it doesn’t smell good when you walk in and the bathroom door doesn’t close all the way or lock. Overall, if we find ourselves in Indianapolis again… we’ll definitely stop in for a bite.

Got a text from them, B1G1 meal sale, so we drove all the way out there. But they were closed, at 2pm in the afternoon, even though their open sign was on! Highly disappointed! There wasn’t a note on the door, nothing. Really don’t think I’ll go back.

Love the selection of southern BBQ. Tried numerous places around our new home. This is a top contender for a place to visit over and over. Service is amazing.

Great food! My husband and I had the rib dinner and rib tips with fried okra and corn nuggets and it was delicious! I love the mom and pop places they usually have the best food… It would have been nice to have some sweet tea and then it would have gotten 5 stars but I just love that there is a BBQ place right in our neighborhood! We will definitely go back there again :)

Good neighborhood BBQ and very friendly owners who were a delight to talk to. But since this genre varies greatly in style and service, I judge a BBQ restaurant solely on the food. Went with a friend for lunch at 1pm on a Saturday after driving by in the morning, smelling the smoker. They were out of chicken, ribs and brisket so we ordered tips, a pulled pork sandwich, corn nuggets, beans and mac & cheese. We were disappointed that our favorites were not available. The pulled pork was so-so and didn’t have much sauce or flavor. The corn nuggets were very good. The rib tips were excellent, great smoked flavor, good rub, and a strong tangy sauce which we loved. The beans and mac & cheese were very plain and seemed right out of a can or box. Maybe I’m jaded having lived in Texas and sought out barbecue in the Midwest, south and plains states. I have experienced some fantastic BBQ in my lifetime. I will be back to try the brisket, chicken and ribs, largely because the owners were so friendly. And I would like to encourage the owners to take those side dishes and make them their own. What makes barbecue great is that the same dishes are unique in different regions — ranch beans in Texas with apples and ham, smoky sweet red beans in Kansas. Baked mac & cheese one place, chili pepper mac in another place. Every dish is an opportunity! Looking forward to stopping in again the next time I’m on the southeast side of Indy.

Great people, fantastic BBQ and the best collards in town. Oh and don’t forget the sweet potato pie. Its tiny but the staff makes you feel at home when you eat there. I could eat the ribs and collards everyday.

Tried this spot based on the reviews and how close it is to home. After eating here I would easily drive from the other side of town for this food. We had ribs, ½ a chicken, pulled pork, mac & cheese, corn nuggets, hush puppies, greens, and green beans. Maybe the best I’ve had in the city. I would order any of it again and would encourage everyone to give this place a try!!! The hush puppies were perrrrfect!!!

Best BBQ in Indianapolis. I’ve enjoyed every visit there, whether I’m taking it home or dining in. Last time I dined in, the owner sat next to us and chatted with us the entire visit. The guy treats you like family and I’ve never been disappointed. Only time I’ve been remotely disappointed was on the days that he wasn’t open for me to get my fix.

I’ve dined here a few times and was impressed each time. I normally get a pretty good sampling of the menu. The leg quarters are always moist. They have great pulled pork, I enjoy the sauce. Well seasoned fries accompany the always perfect catfish sandwich. Their sweet potato pie is good, the only slice I have had was pretty spicy. I would highly recommend them to anyone looking for some good bbq on the south side.
