Came from out of town, and I need to get some stuff to cook some Asian food on 03/11/2014. The business has been closed down.

The owner is starting to feel the pinch from the competition down on Lafayette Road. He still keeps up an inventory of fresh stuff, but his dry packaged/canned products have gathered a lot of dust on the shelves. Right now he’s got big bags of fresh whole Idaho onions(yellow or white, I didn’t check) that looked like a deal. Based on the lack of turnover of his inventory, I’d say he’s not going to be in business another year. This guy, Thanh Hong, is an institution on the West side, and a real character. Stop in when you can, buy some snack, or Asian tea mix, and chat with him a while. God bless him.

This is a very small market, don’t get it confused with the larger one around the corner by almost the same name. It doesn’t have the wow factor and don’t expect freshness in anything there. The prices are good for rice paper and the basics though. I probably wouldn’t get anything that is suppose to be fresh here and always check the expiration date if there is one. This place has been open way before any of the more trendy megamarts around the corner though so I try to support them when I can. The owner is a gentleman with a very loud squealy voice and is usually always there at the store. He must be doing something right to still be in business with all the new competition popping up all around him.

The owner has been in business for 20 years, cool lovely dude, willing to help as much as he can, don’t ever hesitate to ask him about merchandise. Me and my wife liked the place and will surely visit it again, we bought stuff for sushi. Nice prices. FYI: cash or checks only.
