Redemption Alewerks

Very laid back atmosphere, with couches and awesome high tops for lounging. They have a huge assortment of classic/​new board games: checkers, Jenga, Mad Gab, Monopoly, several card games, Super Nintendo, and morrre! Seriously, I can’t say enough great things about the set-​up and mood of this place. They also have live music on weekends, and Geek Trivia on Tuesdays! I will definitely be attending trivia sometime soon, and already have plans to take some friends here this Friday night for live music and tasty brews.
Speaking of… The brews. They offer a lot of local beer (Taxman, anyone?) and also brew their own! Nice weekday specials on food AND drinks. I tried the Caprese salad, my friend had wings. Both were really great. Our server’s name was Lex, ask for him! He was very cool and just attentive enough.
This is probably my new favorite bar in Indy. Not too loud and doesn’t seem like it’d get too rowdy. But I’ll keep you updated on those details when I visit again.
Redemption Alewerks give you great food/​drinks and bar games. Seriously what the heck more do you need? I think everyone should go. So get to it, & maybe I’ll see you there! :))

Redemption is an interesting mix of sports bar meets coffeehouse. It’s a microbrewery with a full bar! I love that fact because my girlfriend doesn’t drink beer and it’s nice that she can get a mixed drink here; unlike every other microbrewery we’ve been to.
I love the décor — they have some couches and lounge chairs, as well as regular dining tables and bar tops. I love the horseshoe bar area as well. They have a couple tvs, but they have music playing so I like that.
The service is pretty good, however it has been a little slow at times.
The food is better than most bar food. I like going on Tuesday for $ 2 tacos! You can’t beat that. They also do trivia on Tuesdays. I like that they have different activities on different days.
The beer selection is nice. The first time I went I got a flight and enjoyed all of their in house beers. Last night I got Deliverance which is an IPA and I really enjoyed it.
Overall a nice microbrewery.

Great beer! Try the big shrimpin’ BLT, you won’t regret it. Also Tuesday is $ 2 off Indiana beer night.

Their beer selection is not bad and their house brews are pretty tasty. The California street tacos were excellent. Service was decent. They never seem that busy, so never a wait. If you like local breweries give this place a shot

Stopped in because we knew someone that used to bartend here. What a great space: the beers were great and an awesome menu too — especially for a Pesca-​tarian. Very impressed with the bbq-​pesto shrimp wrap and my hubby had a simple burger. We loved everything and the vibe here is so chill and hip. Most definitely will return:) Thanks for a great experience.

This was my 3^rd time here. First time, the service was horrible. Took forever for a server to take our drink order and took even longer to get said drinks. Gave it a 2^nd chance and it was much better. Went a 3^rd time last night and the server was horrible. She brought the wrong order to the table and when we said something, she took it back and I’m pretty sure I saw her put it on someone else’s table. Any time we asked for something, she would have to come back to double check that’s what we ordered. It got really annoying.
The grade school burger I got last night was gross. The tots were salty. The queso hardens after a few mins.
The atmosphere is nice. Sometimes they have live music entertainment but I would recommend eating somewhere else then stopping here for a drink.

Finally tried Redemption Aleworks. Wanted to like it but left disappointed with an overall feeling of «meh». The atmosphere is pretty cool, although it seems to be experiencing a bit of an identity crisis — half cozy coffee shop, half cold industrial vibe going on. Odd, but fine.
The beer was good. Better than I anticipated, but nothing phenomenal. My husband liked the IPA. The beer I had was not very memorable.
The food was just… Very very not good. The menu has a Tex-​mex theme going on but isnt executed well and leaves something to be desired in both taste and variety. The appetizer and 2 entrees we ordered were lackluster if not plain bad. From oddly paired dipping sauces and watery salad dressing to burger buns reminiscent of the grocery store’s value brand, the meal was not enjoyable.
There are many similar small breweries in Indy (though not necessarily in this area). The ones I frequent have either a) kickass beer, b) delicious pub food, or c) some compromise of a + b. I won’t be returning here, unfortunately, since none of the above criteria were met.

Good live music, decent atmosphere. The appetizer duo was decent, servers were nice, nona’s caprese had fresh mozzarella and great chicken! Hubby has poutine burger. Gravy tasted like it was from a Box, so I’d skip the poutine.
Beer selections were good. The redemption smoke oil was great. They had 2 stout options which was nice.

Great Schwarzbier. The Lochness Monster Sandwich ia something I will come back for. Surprise… the Bloody Mary is as good as they get, sorry Angie Carter. They are as good as yours!

We have been here before, service is great and the beer is excellent. Food is creative and good. Definitely on our list if favorite stops.

Brewery and gastropub. The bear selection is great and their in house brews are top notch. The atonement was the highlight. The street tacos were extremely good and fresh and the chips, hand made. Great spot and worth the trip. If you’re a beer guy, make the trip.

A Groupon brought me in. A nearly-​expiring Groupon brought me in alone w/​my toddler on a Saturday afternoon.
I’d love to return child-​free w/​friends to occupy one of their big tables with friends and enjoy their extensive beer selection!
I found the prices to be a bit high for the quality of the food. I ordered a beer, 3 tacos and a side of green beans and my bill was still $ 16 after my $ 12 Groupon had been applied. Not a huge deal if the food would have been phenomenal. I found the tacos to be greasy and almost tasted as though the meat in them would have been better suited on a Philly Cheese Steak.
The furniture was lovely and interesting, and I loved their selection of board games! Every bar should have board games!

This place is fantastic! The food, beer and service is exceptional. I’ve eaten here a few times and each time the food was excellent. They offer a great brunch as well.
We had an association event there with about 60 people in attendance. They closed for a few hours so we could have the entire venue and allowed us to move the tables around so guest could easily see and hear our panel presentation. They had mics and a speaker for us to use. We were able to use the TV for a slide presentation.
Everyone loved the appetizers. The spread included veggies, pita, two types of hummus, hush puppies, calamari, mozzarella sticks, wings, pretzel bites and several different sauces.
Throughout the week, I noticed they have different activities going on from live music to game night. This is definitely a fun place to go and not the typical sports bar.

Stopped in here for lunch and was happy to see wings were on the menu for only 60 cents each. Not your normal wings though these were pretty good sized ones. I tried different sauces and liked the house sauce best. My wife and I split the nachos and they looked so good, I snapped a photo. The brewery appeared to be expanding as we saw shiny new tanks still unwrapped completely. Beer selection was pretty extensive with several guest taps. My wife really enjoyed her Bloody Mary and they offered different craft cocktails as well. I suggest stopping by and trying out this place for lunch and don’t discount it because of its location in a strip plaza.

Beers ranged from fair to good, as did the food. The manager did a nice job checking in with our table and making us feel welcome. Overall it felt a bit like it was trying to be all things to all people (sports bar, brewery, lounge) which is a tough balancing act. A good stop if you’re in the area but probably not worth driving too far out of your way to visit.

What a difference from the mediocre sports bar this used to be. Now it’s a very nice gastropub/​nanobrewery.
They had 4 of their own beers available along with 9 other local brews the time I was there. There were also 2 ciders and 1 mead tap.
Their beers are quite nice. Nothing too outrageous and very drinkable. They will do growler fills, but not on Sundays… yet. The license is in the works and should be available in a few weeks.
The whole operation is very high-​tech. There were no cash registers that I could see. All the staff (waitstaff and bartenders) carried tablets to take your food and drink orders.
An added bonus is the dining area is kid, friendly and the outdoor patio is dog-​friendly. If you want to really get comfortable there are a couple couches and wingback chairs. This place really has a coffeehouse feel to it, which is a nice change.
There are a few HD TVs for the sports crowd, but don’t expect to get sound. Mellow tunes dominate the airwaves here.
If you’re not into beer, there is also a full bar available and a decent craft cocktail menu.
As for the food, is pretty decent. I ordered two of the street tacos and Mexican corn. By no stretch of the imagination do I consider the tacos authentic (they came overstuffed with lettuce, tomato and corn) but they were very tasty. One thing I would change is I would double up on the corn tortillas because they fell apart from the sheer mass of food they were attempting to contain.
The Mexican street corn (elotes) was very good. It’s served off-​the-​cob which I consider an improvement on the authentic experience.
Several reviews have mentioned the high prices here. My experience was quite different. My 2 huge tacos and street corn were only $ 8.
This place has been open less than 2 years and I think business hasn’t been the greatest (the location actually isn’t the best even though it is on 96^th street). They advertise on the radio to drum up some business. However, you would be remiss to dismiss Redemption Aleworks. Good food, good beer, mellow atmosphere make for a nice experience.

This was my second time dining here. We sat at a round high top table. It was fine until all the kids started coming in and being so loud playing the games. I understand that you offer games for people to hang out and play, but I was unaware that a chill brewery hangout place would turn into a bunch of kids playing the loudest games and being annoying. Maybe it’s the parents fault, however maybe a manager can say something next time kids are screaming.
The food was very disappointing. The menu had changed since the last time I had been here. My shrimp BLT was pretty basic and not really anything special at all. I asked for the chicken chili as my side. Huge mistake. I was able to eat it with a FORK. Soup or chili should be consumed with a spoon. Whoever is your chef, should really check all the food coming out to make sure it is up to a standard.

Good food, great beer, and live music! Hard to beat that.
Two reasons it wasn’t 5 stars.
Sat down a waited a good 15 minutes to get a beer, not that busy.
Ordered a redemption burger. Sounded great but was definitely over cooked. Still had good flavor though. Saturday night watched the Colts play and had a great Stout. Great Live music as well!
Would definitely come back!

I’ve been here over a dozen times and I wish I could leave a positive review, but I cannot. Redemption Alewerks has made a lot of changes since they opened; some for the better and others for the worse.
The beer selection is great. They have some of the most interesting beers on draft and in bottles and cans. Their daily half-​off cans and wine bottle specials are also a great way to please the regulars and bring in new people. Most of the Redemption brews they create are decent and what you would expect from novice brewers.
Unfortunately the worst part of my experience has been what I often go to Redemption Alewerks in hopes that it has approved: the food. In the beginning there were specials and excellent staples like the traditional Cuban sandwich and espresso rubbed ribeye. They have since removed each of these items (presumably because of patrons criticizing the prices) and replaced their old menu with a strange pub-​like menu.
Half-​priced appetizers and canned beer brought me back tonight and at least the $ 2 Dale’s Pale Ale was worth the drive. The calamari fish sticks have a good flavor, but are obviously not high quality and make you constantly wonder if it might be rubber or tofu or who knows what else. The nachos are so completely drenched in unnecessary sauces and toppings that after a few overly salty and confusingly flavored chips it is thoroughly soggy and nearly inedible. The fried portobello caps are thinly sliced mushrooms which are then over battered in an extremely salty «beer mixture» which left my stomach turning after just a few bites.
I couldn’t bring myself to stay for an entrée tonight partly because of the nausea-​inducing mushrooms and partly because of the over-​editorialized menu descriptions. The Caesar salad was at the top of my list because I don’t think I could survive anything fried or greasy, but the description was «our spin on» a traditional Caesar salad, but there was no spin aside from using shredded chicken and adding tomatoes. If Redemption Alewerks claims to have something unique or signature they should sell what makes it unique. The Caesar dressing is bought in bulk and the Redemption BBQ tastes no different than a mass produced BBQ sauce.
I really hate to leave such a negative review, but without some major changes to the menu and kitchen I fear they won’t be around much longer. I would strongly encourage the management to approach guests that order items that are being reviewed poorly or go to tables who only finish half of their food and get firsthand feedback about their restaurant. Maybe even go as far as to offer coupons or freebies to people who fill out a survey or leave feedback.

We decided to kick off my birthday week celebration with a Friday night visit to Redemption Alewerks. Man, am I glad we did!
We were promptly greeted at the door by a friendly gal named Paige (who later became one of our servers) and led toward a high table in the bar. We could have also opted to sit «Community Table Style» with some other folks at a bigger low table, but chose a high boy alone instead.
I could go on and on, but here are the cool points:
– the FOOD!
We LOVED the Hush Puppies (get the spicy maple dipping sauce), Chicken & Waffles, Salmon Tacos, and the Brussels sprouts! My Anti-​Brussels sprouts Club President husband even ate *2* of them and liked them! I told him I wouldn’t mention it so he can keep his street cred… but what happens on Unilocal STAYS on Unilocal,right? :)
– the BEER!
Flights here are generous at six nice sized pours per flight and are very well priced. All options are posted digitally on the TV above/​beside the bar. Stand outs for us: the Dragon Milk, Oat Stout, Old Chub, New Belgian Salted Chocolate — but the others were really good too. Want something unique? Try the Zombie Killer Cider … we saved it’s cherry tinged goodness for dessert!
– the SERVICE!
Samantha (one of our servers) told us from jump that it was her first night on the floor. If she had not mentioned it, we never would have known. She was so on it… from beer suggestions to fill our flights to dinner recommendations to discussions about groovy local businesses we need to check out. SO cool. We never felt rushed or like they needed to turn over our table quickly. Random servers were happy to stop by and chat, clear a plate, or check to make sure things were ok. Sweet.
– the CROWD and ATMOSPHERE!
Albeit loud, people here appeared to REALLY be enjoying themselves. Redemption offers board games to play and there was a large table near us playing Cards Against Humanity and having a ball. Pretty chill, laid-​back atmosphere overall. Not so hipster or trendy that I felt out of place.
Down side:
– It is SO loud in here. Like LOUD LOUD. Maybe because it is so open with super tall ceilings and lots of metal to bounce sound off of… But dang.
– Food is a bit pricey (they have a $ 16 Cuban Sandie), but is tasty.
– They haven’t set up their own brewing equipment area yet… will be cool to see how this shapes up.
I am glad that Redemption appears to have worked out some of the bumps since opening (from previous reviews) and I cannot wait to go back to watch them grow. I think we have found a new go-​to spot close to home. Hooooray!
