Segway of Indianapolis Tours

Definitely worth the cost! We had never been on a Segway and we quickly discovered it was a lot of fun! The tour was just long enough without getting too tired and the route was enjoyable. I’d definitely recommend this, especially if it is your first time.

If you’re on the fence about doing this because of the cost, or because you’re nervous to ride a Segway, just do it! It’s totally worth the price (about $ 50 per person, plus everyone in our group tipped the guide at the end), and the Segway is a breeze once you get the hang of it. I’m sort of a naturally clumsy person, but even I had no trouble navigating around the skinny sidewalks and twists and turns near the canal.
I’ve lived in Indianapolis for a long time, but I haven’t spent much time in the canal area. I didn’t know there was a ⁹⁄₁₁ monument there, nor one for the USS Indianapolis — so even locals might be able to pick up a new bit of Indy trivia on the tour.
Even if you know all there is to know about our fair city, you need to try riding the Segway. It was so much fun that I’m obsessed and adding owning one to my «when I win the lottery» list. ;) They’re limited to about 10 mph, so you don’t have to worry about losing control of it. And they’re self balancing and easy to steer, so it’s pretty much impossible to fall off.
Tips:
–For the safety conscious: you’ll get a helmet and about 5 minutes of practice driving before you head off on the tour.
–Most of the Segways had a small bag on the console, so bring along bottle of water if you think you might get thirsty. There’s also a kayak rental shop near the ⁹⁄₁₁ memorial that sells bottles of water and soda for about $ 2 if you forget to bring your own.
–Wear comfortable shoes! You’ll be standing for the entire time (about 1.5 hours), and you’ll feel it.

This was so so so much fun. Our guide was very knowledgeable about the city and knew many bits of trivia. He also pointed out many other attractions to see and visit. The Segway is fun to ride and I want one now. I plan to bring many others to experience it also. 5 stars

We recently did the White River segway tour as a team building activity at work. I had a great time. You really get to know your finance co-​workers when you see how they react to operating heavy machinery. Oh hai, awkward brigade.
It was great, though. I feel like our tour guide did a great job keeping us together and there was definitely some bonding over everyone’s constant fear that our high school co-​op was going to drive into the canal at the death defying speed of 10MPH. I would definitely recommend it for groups looking for a good outing for all ages.

I took the tour with my wife this past weekend. Our tour group was relatively small with only 4 other folks. The tour guide was very friendly and was helpful in explaining how to use the segway and how the segway system works. When we stopped for location and explanation visits, the guide was very knowledgeable and ready to help take pictures and explain about the area.
The one con was that there were several long durations where you just rode the segway from tourist point to tourist point. It would have been nice if the guide had an ear piece or a megaphone to explain or educate more about the city or the area we were in while in transit.
outside of that, it was a cool way to see Indianapolis, especially if you have never used a segway!

On a slightly rainy and cool Sunday morning, my wife and I did this tour. My wife, age 57 and a self-​admitted klutz, was apprehensive about it but gained confidence during the training and warm-​up ride near the kiosk. I caught on fairly quickly for a 58-​year-​old and was ready for some fun seeing the sights in a way that we never would be able to thoroughly walk. The stops at the various memorials were very nice but it is obvious the IUPUI students guiding us were not history majors. They were very nice about taking some pictures of us with downtown Indy and the White River in the background.
My wife did manage a small accident near the museum as we were wrapping up the tour, ending up with a bloody nose. The tour guides were solicitous and prepared with a first aid kit. Even with that happening, she says she’d go again and recommends it, even for klutzes!!!

Most fun you can have on two wheels in Indianapolis! Is this thing ever easy to operate!
Searching for something different to do on a Sunday afternoon and not wanting to be cooped up inside, we finally came up with a Segway tour. We had seen these offered in Chicago and never had the chance to take one, so we thought «why not?»
Our tour lasted over 90 minutes — after a brief orientation and training session with our guide — and we had a blast! The guides will take groups of up to six people, but lucky for us, the three other people who had reserved ended up canceling and we found ourselves getting what amounted to a private tour.
Kyle, our 20-​something guide, led us through the park, around various monuments and other points of interest, across a couple of bridges, along the canal and even through a small grassy area — didn’t know these things would run over grass. We stopped several times along the way while Kyle gave us the details of the sights — we even learned a few things from him that we did not know, which is always a good thing :-)
In the end, our only disappointment was that the tour didn’t last longer — though I’m sure Kyle was ready to call an end to his day. We hear that the biz may offer a three-​hour tour (do you hear the Gilligan’s Island theme??) by next year… we can only hope!
