Sophia’s Bridal Tux & Prom

I went to Sophia’s for a bridal fitting two weekends ago, and I was very pleased. Everything good you’ve read about their service is true. I think there were 4 – 5 women in the store when I visited, and they all seemed to genuinely like their work. My original consultant (can’t recall her name) was very accommodating and took her time talking to me about what I’m looking for in a wedding dress. I really didn’t know what I wanted, but just from talking with me, I felt like she understood and knew what to look for. As that consultant was pulled aside to help an earlier customer, I worked with Stasia, who was positive and fun, while also being helpful. I felt like I got the true bridal shopping experience at Sophia’s. They let me pick through each rack in the store and pull the dresses I wanted to try, and the appointments are 2 hours long I believe, so I had plenty of time.
I’d also like to highlight the fact that this salon has the best selection of wedding dresses I’ve seen (I’ve been to 3 other stores). While it’s not a large place, they had so many beautiful, original designs. I feel like the other salons I visited have similar designers, but only their «safest» designs. Sophia’s buyers are not afraid to branch out and I was so happy to see that. I am making a purchase in the next month or so and I think it will likely be at Sophia’s.

I am not a bride who considers dress shopping to be a «special experience.» It is important, because you’re spending a lot of money, but I do not consider it an event. So, I get nervous about bridal appointments, because bridal shops have to cater to brides looking for the Say Yes to The Dress package. That being said, I had a great experience at Sophia’s. I shopped for my wedding dress alone. Andrea was a great consultant, very mindful of my budget and taste, and I didn’t feel pressured in the slightest. I do not like trying on clothes, wedding dresses were no exception, so she was very cool with pulling a few things, showing them to me, and having me narrow it down to a total of less than five. She did not make me feel like I had to make a big, emotional deal about it, and I found and ordered my dress in under an hour. The selection and price range was fantastic, as well.
If you’re a bride like me who wants a low key shopping experience, without the entourage and the pageantry, Sophia’s can definitely help you. Of course, I saw other groups there and their consultants were enthusiastic and excited to provide the «experience» but I know there are plenty of brides out there that don’t enjoy that level of attention, and this place works for both kinds of brides.

What a great experience! I have been to other shops and this by far the easiest and I really appreciate that. I called the day before and got an apt booked, when I arrived the next day Stasha had already pulled the 3 dresses I mentioned on the phone alone with another that fit my vision. I ended up trying on all the gowns one after another I liked them all, finally I tried on a gown on sale. Stasha just kept saying how beautiful I was and jacked me up I said yes and walked out with the gown that day, she even carrier it to the car for me. How crazy such a friendly and helpful staff :) !

I had a wonderful experience at this boutique. The ladies were extremely helpful in giving me endless options of dresses that were in my budget. I never felt rushed or pressured to get something I didn’t want. I was also unlimited in the number of dresses i could try on. It was everything I would’ve expected out of a dress fitting. The staff was knowledgeable and accomodating. I was able to get a gorgeous dress that day! My fiancé was, also able to get his tux rental there as well. I would recommend to anybody wanting a beautiful and unique gown to please stop here!

I had a wonderful experience at Sophia’s! I actually came in right before Christmas (yes, my review is long overdue) looking for a wedding dress. I made appointments at three places in Indy, and this was my first stop. I didn’t need the rest of my appointments because I said «yes» to my dress at Sophia’s!
Stasia was my helper for the day and she was so great. We started out walking around the store and I described what I thought I wanted, and what I thought I didn’t want. Stasia was super helpful and pulled some dresses I didn’t think I would like (including the one I bought) and cautioned me not to rule anything out until I tried it on. She helped me in and out, clipped the dresses for me, and was so patient as I modeled each dress for my friends & family.
At the end of the day, I fell in love with an Essence of Australia dress I tried on and didn’t think I would even like! It was actually on sale AND a sample so I walked out of the store with it that day.
A couple things to note about Sophia’s:
— No photography inside the store until you say «yes» to your dress.
— The check-​in offer is only valid on full priced items.
— I’d recommend making an appointment, especially if you’ve got a gaggle of people coming along with you. I brought five ladies along, which was pushing it for their space, but they were very accommodating and made room for everyone.
Overall I would highly recommend any bride-​to-​be come to Sophia’s first!

Absolutely the best bridal shop experience! Sophia’s was the first stop of my day and Katie was the best consultant of my day! She was knowledgeable, attentive (only one bride per consultant unlike other stores) and she made the entire experience so fun. I was clueless and she helped guide me to figure out what didn’t even know that I wanted. She spelled out everything so i learned the correct terminology to use too. Katie was so great I joked with my mom about inviting her to the wedding :) I highly recommend this small shop for their personality and personalization of the bridal dress shopping experience.

I am editing my previous review. I feel like I was tricked by this store and the sales person now :(I was told the dress I purchased as a sample size would be so simple to alter to fit me, and would be super inexpensive. I was reassured this twice… when I first tried the dress on and when I picked it up. I was quoted no more than 200 for alterations. When I went to the recommended tailor and another I was quoted over 400 dollars to fix the dress and that was just a base estimate for the first round of alterations. I am SUPER disappointed as if I needed to spend that much on alterations I could have just put the money towards a dress of the higher price that actually fit. Very unhappy customer. And, they neglected to tell me everything was final sale until after I was charged. It would be nice if management or the sales staff would have been honest or worked with me on this huge discrepancy in alteration cost.

I would not shop at Sophia’s again. We purchased a gown for my daughter in January, for $ 1,500, newly in and just readied for the «trunk showing.» Service was great that night, but when the gown arrived and we went to pick it up in August (Bride lives in Idaho), it was MUCH too long and not properly fitted in the bodice and waist. We were informed that the girl who assisted us in January was no longer w/​the store, and was new to Sophia’s at that time. She forgot to tell us about the option of being measured, when purchasing and ordering, from the waist to the floor. The staff who helped us in August just kept reassuring us that «you’ll be fine» and seemed to want to quickly underplay this ill fitting dress and hurry us along. The poor fitting in January cost my daughter more in alterations that took two and a half weeks at a specialty sewing shop in our home town. The seamstress stressed that it was «a lot of work» to make up for much of what could have been avoided by proper measuring in January. I spoke to the store mgr and then the owner about some compensation for the extra cost in alterations; no customer service perspective at all — no help, «nothing they could do.» I have two other daughters and none of us will shop at Sophia’s again.

My experience at Sophia’s was everything I wanted and needed it to be. Based on our wedding location and my fiancé’s family, I decided to look for my gown in Indianapolis and so I based my research from there. I looked at a bunch of dresses on the Knot and realized I was really liking Stella York, Essence of Australia, and Maggie Sottero gowns, and it looked like Sophia’s was the only store around Indy that carried all three brands. Plus, their dresses don’t go over $ 2,000 (the top of my budget), so I liked the idea that I could go there without worrying that I would like a dress outside of my budget.
Scheduling an appointment was easy; I did it about a month in advance for a Saturday appointment. They give you 90 minutes and your own fitting room and stand/​mirror area. I brought 4 people and I can see how it would get tight back there if each bride brings that many people. There are 3 fitting areas and some of them share bench seating.
I called in advance to make sure they would have a Stella dress that I loved from pictures, but they didn’t. Turns out they participate in a program where you can get a loaner sample from the designer for a fee ($ 60). Not all dresses are in this program, but the one I liked was.
Anyway, when we got there, Sara Mae introduced herself and made sure she knew what I was looking for. I have to say that she did an excellent job considering that my tastes ranged from organza to lace and strapless to sleeved. Ladies, be warned: your 90 minutes will fly by. I looked at my watch twice during the appointment — once an hour in, and then the next time we were already a half hour past our appointment. I never felt like Sara was rushing us at all. She and the manager did a great job of handling those of us who were in the store considering that they were down a consultant. Sara also had a great eye for picking out accessories to enhance each dress I tried on. I never considered adding a belt to my gown but she threw one on and I immediately knew I wanted it.
A couple of things that could have added even more to the experience would have been some bottles of water for the guests and making sure the samples were in good repair. A couple things I tried on were broken or ripped.
If you’re considering Sophia’s for your gown shopping, that’s perfect — I would just make sure you do your research to make sure that they carry gowns that you like in general, and make sure they carry «the one» if you have a specific sample in mind. Their selection isn’t huge but it’s thoughtfully chosen. I would come back to try dresses on again and again! ;)

Locally owned and it shows. This place is simply the best. Yes, it’s a bit small, but trust me, it works to your benefit. They have the newest dresses and their styles are current and trendy. Other places are just aisles full of old styles and old fabric. All the girls that work here are enthusiastic, kind, friendly, and genuinely excited about helping you find the right dress. I had zero knowledge about wedding dresses before I came here, but they asked me a couple questions and I ended up buying one of the first three I tried on. It was actually really fun and forgive me for squealing like a total girl but my dress is OMG THE BEST EVER!!! My experience was perfect. Thanks Sophia’s. (Edit– they recommend a dress alterations store, Carmel Tailoring, which I emphatically advise against using. Can’t stress this enough!)

This was the first place I went to try on dresses, so it set the tone for the whole ordeal. I was initially a little turned off by how small it was, but it turned out to be OK. The person we worked with never introduced herself, so I have no idea what her name was.
I had scoured their website and found a few dresses that I liked, but they weren’t in the store, so that was a bummer. However, the girl I worked with help find some dresses that I liked, and of all the dresses I tried on across multiple shops, Sophia’s had my favorite (though it was not «the one»). I changed privately, which I appreciated, and then once I stepped out our helper was happy to hook me up with sashes, veils, etc. to complete the look. They do have a no picture taking policy, though you wouldn’t have to be too creative to get around that.
It wasn’t a pushy environment at all, which I liked. They were very patient through lots of questions. Ultimately I won’t be getting my dress there, but it was a good first experience and I would recommend it to others.

When I first saw Sophia’s in a little strip mall on the south side, I have to admit that I had my doubts. It was the second store that I visited (the first was a chain store in Castleton where I had been uninspired by the process) and I wasn’t expecting to buy anything on my exploratory mission.
We were a little early, but our salesperson let us poke around in the racks anyway. This is a great thing about Sophia’s — unlike some stores, they display their merchandise where you can walk through and look at it. It’s actually a lot of fun to look through the racks — it feels like you’re hunting for treasure.
They were in the middle of their sample sale, so quite a few of the dresses were way marked down. There was one in particular that was being displayed in the window, which we snatched off the display and took back to try on. It was instant tears and love at first look. Other dresses that I had tried on felt like they were wearing me, but this was the perfect one.
My MOH and future MIL pried me out of dress #1 to try on a few others, and we did find even more that I could definitely have seen myself wearing for the wedding. One in particular, a gorgeous confection with intricate flower designs on the skirt, was beautiful and marked down to $ 400.00.
Through this whole process our salesperson was friendly and helpful, cinching up ties and picking out veils to match the ones I really loved. When I got dress #1 back on the waterworks really started and I knew I couldn’t leave this dress behind. With the sample sale it was marked down to $ 700.00 off the original price.
If you’re interested in getting a truly unique and high quality dress (no scratchy tulle or prom dress design here, although they do also sell prom dresses) go to Sophia’s Bridal. Some gowns may be a little expensive, but look for the sample sale for some really amazing deals!

I live in San Francisco but wanted to shop for my dress with my mom so on a recent trip I made an appointment at Sophia’s. I found them while i was searching for shops that carry Fancy New York wedding dresses. They were excellent! Jenna (sorry if I spelled that wrong), was very helpful when I said I wanted tea length and the wedding is May 19^th. She cautioned me that it was tough because ordering the dress would be tight but said lets try them on and see. We went through a bunch of dresses and she was very attentive and helpful. The dress I liked was going to be tight to order and the sample size wasn’t in my size. So we decided to go check out the big box store down the street. While they were nice enough it wasn’t anything close to the service I got at Sophia’s. After talking about it there was a second dress at Sophia’s I liked and it was a size up from what i wear so i could take it home and tailor it and no panic about it showing up on time. So we headed back to the store and they were so helpful. The first dress had a bow belt and the second had a regular belt and they were so sweet to switch them out for me. I got exactly the style of dress I want and was lucky enough to get it off the rack so it fit my timeline and budget. I would recommend Sophia’s to any bride or bridesmaid. Thank you so much for making dress shopping so easy we had a great time.

Just found «the one» at Sophia’s and it was such an enjoyable experience! I made about an hour trip to Sophia’s because I had read some great reviews about the boutique. I had been to a superstore already, and while I liked some of the dresses, it was so crowded and I didn’t feel like I got the personal attention that I would have at a smaller place. Sophia’s totally confirmed this!
The store was super tidy and the selection was amazing! Katie was fabulous and really listened to what I wanted. She picked out some amazing dresses and everything I tried on was absolutely gorgeous. I felt that the quality was so much better than at some of the superstores, and the personal attention was invaluable. I never felt rushed, and Katie was really patient as I decided on jewlery and headpieces. All of the dresses were very affordable, and such a unique selection.
So glad I went to Sophia’s! I’d recommend it to anyone!

After searching and searching for the dress that didn’t make me look like an angry snow beast, I found the dress at Sophia’s. The owner helped me and was very sweet and patient, especially when i had an issue with my dress. It’s all going to be much better looking than the generic stuff you find everywhere else and better quality. Worth a trip. I took my sister to Sophia’s first when she got engaged. She found many thing she liked as well.

After trying on dresses in Atlanta with my sister, I decided to see what Indy had to offer. My hairdresser mentioned she purchased her dress at Sophias, but I planned to go to the larger stores for a bigger selection. I was at the mega bridal store in Greenwood (you all know which one I’m talking about) and although I found some dresses with pretty silhouettes, the fabric on most of the dresses was cheap and there was nothing that made me feel like a bride. In addition, we had to wait for ~45 mins while my bridal consultant scarfed down her lunch and cigarette before we were helped (the appointment only lasted 20 mins). After no luck, my mom got up the nerve to call nearby salons and the girls at Sophia told us we could come straight in. When we got there, she asked me what I was looking for and then let me pick out a few so that she could get an idea of my style. I tried on about 5 dresses, all of which met my criteria, and then narrowed it down to 2. They were patient while I was deciding, and even pulled out the mannequin in a tan tux so that I could see how it might match up with my fiancé’s attire. They have a smaller store, but all of the dresses are beautiful and affordable. The girls were super helpful and encouraging without being overbearing like consultants in some of the other salons I visited. I will recommend this place to everyone!

I purchased my dress from Sophia’s Bridal & even though they didn’t have a huge selection, the dresses they did have were beautiful & well made. The prices were great, the sales associates are friendly, helpful & they remember you!

I will have to update my review once we receive our bridesmaid dresses, but my sister and I went to Sophia’s in mid-​November (by appt.) and had a wonderful experience. I am blanking on the girl’s name who helped us, but she was incredibly sweet, assisting my sister try on several wedding dresses in the style she requested, asking pointed, specific questions to figure out what my sister liked.
They didn’t have a LOT of choices, but everything they did have was clearly hand picked and many of the gowns were beautiful. The store is locally owned, and the owner named it after her pup, which I can TOTALLY support. :) Who doesn’t love their dog?
It’s a quaint little boutique right off of 31 in an easy to find strip mall area. When we walked in, we were warmly greeted (Joni! That’s her name — just came to me!) by the sales staff. We had an appt. and she immediately started discussing dress options with my sister. The store itself was nicely decorated, predictable except for one thing — she has pictures of girls in the dresses they bought all over the shop from their wedding day… in the changing area, on the walls, etc. I thought this an interesting, fun touch! And, I know if I bought THE gown from Sophia’s, I would want to be a lucky girl to have my wedding photo displayed.
Their bridesmaid dress options were limited. And, while I’m on that note, I do NOT understand the BM dress selection out there as a whole. Why are they made of the stuffiest fabrics and ugliest colors on the planet!!!
We managed to find EXACTLY what we were looking for; however, and my sister chose a deep, gorgeous navy. She assisted us with possibilities of one of the BMs who may be pregnant and assured us they can order with a maternity panel. She also helped us figure out the last possible date to order the dresses.
My sister decided on another store and another dress for herself, but we will definitely be ordering our BM dresses and the boys’ tuxes from Sophia’s. So far, our experience has been top notch. Sophia, the pup, is a very lucky dog!
