If your vacationing with toddlers, consider other options. Unlike some adults toddlers are utterly unforgiving when a plain cheese burger showes up without cheese. Imagine this happening after your youngest pokes her straw through her cheap foam cup, in-turn spilling her milk all over herself and your wife; all of this of course following your wifes wrong order arriving at the table moments before… While the service was friendly, it was like being in one of those twilight zone movies… especially when everyone walking by on the sidewalk outside looked in on us. #homewreckers

Ok for fast food if you have the time to wait. Took ten minutes for my waitress to take my order which was only fries and a Coke. Fries were good though, and it’s nice you can order three different sizes — small, medium, or large. Served shoestring style.

Wasn’t too impressed with this place, burger(5.69) wasn’t what I thought it would be. Paper thin pattys and bun way too big. Fries were shoestring style and over cooked, very crunchy. The only saving grace is the jalapeño steak burger did taste good. Not somewhere I would recommend to others.

It’s one place downtown open 24 hours. Our server was great! Some of the staff was more interested in their shift change duties than seating the line that had accumulated at the door. The food was on par with any other Steak ‘n Shake I’ve been to. The word for the clientele is diverse. You may see people from all walks of life here on any given night.

This place wasn’t horrible, but we ordered take out when the restaurant was only half-full and it took about 30 minutes. We didn’t order anything crazy either, just a couple burgers and a couple shakes. I expected a little more out of this place.

While stopping in after an event at lucas oil stadium the line was massive but to be expected. What wasnt expected was the over 45 minute wait for a shake!!! if the cashier had said it was going to be that long we would have just cancelled the shakes and just ordered the food. Instead we ordered our food and after a 25 mintue wait for the food we were still waiting for our shakes. Meanwhile the food got cold and we gave up and just left. It was poor management that the cashier didnt tell us about the overly extended wait for the shakes. Will not be returning to this location when it is THAT full again.

Half price shakes 2−5p on weekdays! And that’s pretty much the higlight of the place. There are a lot of different kinds of shakes to try, and all for $ 2 during 2−5p. Other than that, there are a lot if meals for $ 4, but don’t expect too much. I mean, you get what you pay for, right? Also, I don’t know if we hit a bad time, or if it’s regularly this slow, but we waited over 30min for our food, even though this place is supposed to be ‘fast’.

This is the best fast food ever!!! The food was so good I could not take a picture because I was enjoying the eating. I also had a chocolate milk shake — awesome. This place has salads as wells a burgers and many choices of shakes. Can’t wait to go back!

Okay I think visiting ANY Steak ‘n Shake is a must whenever I have the opportunity. It is by far one of my absolute favourite milkshake and burger locations to visit in the entire United States. This particular location can be a mighty busy one — partially because of the proximity to the Convention center and all the conventions that are held here but also because it is downtown and there is simply a good population density in this area as a result. This particular location is clean and efficiently run. I loved the nutella milkshake on my most recent visit and enjoyed a burger that had egg on it with my fries. I’m not terribly fond of Steak ‘n Shake fries in general so I got these ones seasoned and they were a bit salty as a result. Still all was delicious and well worth eating. Additionally Steak ‘n Shake is extremely affordable meaning that it is the right combination of delicious and price for a fast food joint. This location has become much safer-feeling over the past decade or so and is really worth a visit.

Steak ‘n Shake: An Californian’s perspective. I tried this place when I was at a convention in Indianapolis. I had heard good things about this place from my mom, who grew up in Illinois, so I decided that I had to taste it for myself. Overall, I was impressed. The prices were good for what you get. I had the original double steak burger, a chocolate shake, and fries. The burger was good, a couple of steps up from McDonald’s, but it was a couple of steps down from a burger chain in California called In N Out. The shakes here were amazing, better than any I have tasted back in California, but the fries were average though. At this particular store, the service was pretty slow the second time I came in. My friends and I waited half an hour to get our shakes after we had gotten our burgers and fries, we ordered to go.

Always mediocre service here. Been here several times, all hours of the day. Try to hit happy hour to get half price shakes.

Walked into the Steak N Shake and got harassed by the police officer at the front door. Told my friend I was not looking forward to the wait and the cop told me «good, you should leave then.» I will never be back at this location because of the rude greeting standing at the door. Thanks sir! protect and serve! This is on top of my food being colder than Alaska. Never again needless to say.

Went here on our lunch break at the Convention center. The food was good. What was cool that I noticed– someone was paying for a homeless person’s lunch. That brought tears to my eyes! Indianapolis people rock! We were in and out fairly quickly– so if you are looking for a semi quick bite to eat, go here.

If your out downtown having a late night out, this is the place to go! Can’t really go wrong with a burger and fries.

At first I was so put off by the manager sitting and eating at the counter and lack of acknowledging my group. Then his dry and not funny sense of humor trying to win us over. Had it not been for our recommendation to eat here combined with our amazing service from Courtney. I would have walked out. With or without my friends. She was charming and knowledgeable and friendly. Everything service should be. She is the reason I enjoyed my experience. The manager miraculously had a personality when business men arrived. His overall attitude was mediocre. He’s lucky he has staff that love their job. If you go in. Sit in Courtney’s section and for gods sake Tip her above average. I wish she was a server in California. Id come back if this was local for me.

Went for breakfast. Great service with the kids, good food. Went back for lunch. Same thing. Can’t recommend this place enough for a quick and tasty meal. Try the chili, BTW, and get some chili cheese fries with your burger.

Know anyone allergic to certain ingredients? What about someone with Galactosemia? Steak and Shake is not the place to go if you have an allergy or metabolic disorder. I went to this restaurant for lunch. All I could eat was a piece of grilled chicken without the bun or french fries. Their drinks, however, are amazing. I have never had a Diet Vanilla Coke that tasted so good. The service at this particular Steak ‘n Shake was wonderful. I arrived at a peak time for lunch as was seated right away. The employee even asked me what section of the restaurant I would like to sit at. Our waitress was quick and efficient. I guess the reason why I gave this restaurant 2⁄5 stars is because of their lack of menu options for someone with a limited diet. I wish this restaurant accommodated more allergies. Also, my friend ordered a cheeseburger, which was covered in disgusting butter and grease. If you care about your health, do not eat here.

If you happen to be looking for a place to sober up after a late night/early morning downtown, grab a late night milk shake, or just sit back and enjoy a cheap meal with ever evolving free entertainment, then this Steak ‘n Shake is for you. It’s location and hours make it an attractive option to continue the night. Depending on the night and time that you go, you could either just walk right in and get a seat or you might have to wait. There are usually two of the cities finest offices stationed there to keep everything inline. The service is generally good and pretty quick considering how crowded and how staffed they are. I have to give everyone who works the late shift props because working with the after bar crowd can be annoying and challenging as I can attest to past experience. This is a typical Steak ‘n Shake and serves the standard fare. It is not gluten free by any means, including the milk shake as it is a share machine and is a cross contamination nightmare.

If I ever wanted my picture on the wall of a restaurant, Steak and Shake on Maryland would have 50 signed selfies of me eating one of everything multiplied by at least two! Seriously. I can’t get enough of this place! In fact, they restored my faith in steak n’ shake after staying away for years. I used to work at one in college, and that was hardly as good as this location. Go late night, or early morning… The late night menu is for those out here with true grit. It reminds me of something you stumble on at a local place at 3am. A seven layered burger, breakfast skillets loaded with chili, or mini sliders to stack and smash. The everyday $ 4 menu is also a win. In fact, you can’t go wrong with the options available for either menu. Now and then, I have some mess ups with my order. Dorothy, Scott, Amber, and Kayla go above and beyond to make things right. That says volumes about the service they are giving. Gone are the days of crabby coffee pouring wait staff that came with all day diners. Steak n Shake is modern, clean, fun(upbeat music and energetic atmosphere), has excellent food, and wonderful service! They are open 24 marvelous hours, so do not be late! For the price and value, this place has got it going on downtown!

In a moment of weakness at 2 am while studying for exams, I decided to send my boyfriend out to fetch some shakes and burgers. The food was actually really good. The milkshake was a little sloppy but its a milkshake so I am not going to complain. I got a few garlic shooters and some chicken fingers to share with my boyfriend. So I guess in my experience, this place is a good late night place but the lunchtime crew just does not care at all.
