About to return our rental car near LAX, I used the Waze app to tell me the gas stations with the cheapest gas in the vicinity. The app led me to here, A & Z Fuel, at 1244 S Inglewood Ave in Inglewood. It’s located less than a mile from all the car rental places near the airport, but on the other side of the 405. Waze showed this gas station as a Valero gas station. However, when I pulled onto the lot, instead of seeing Valero’s teal-and-yellow color scheme, I saw Hulk Hogan red and yellow and all the pumps said«A & Z Fuel» on them. Google Street View photos taken in April 2015 show the station with Valero’s colors, but Valero’s name blacked out, so this station hasn’t been a Valero since at least that time. To make things a little more interesting and confusing, the business name that printed on the receipt from the pump said«M & M.» A Google search of this address shows«M & M Oil Inc» as the business. There’s also an independent mechanic’s garage here. Google shows both«J & D Automotive» and«G & J Automotive Repair.» A & Z, M & M, J & D, G & J. What’s up with all the initials? G & J Auto Repair is what’s located at this station at the time of writing this review. They have a three-bay garage. Here’s their Facebook page: This review isn’t for the repair shop, but the gas station. There are 10 pumps. I used pump #7 and it had all sorts of graffiti on it. Some of the buttons and stickers were covered with graffiti so you couldn’t read them. I was barely able to read the prices on the pump — not because of the graffiti, but because of the quality of the displays. They’ve about completely worn out. Photo: Despite the abused pump, I filled up for a good price. Last month(December 2015), here were the posted per gallon prices: –Regular Unleaded: $ 2.639 cash, $ 2.719 card –Plus Unleaded: $ 2.859 cash, $ 2.959 card –Super Unleaded: $ 2.959 cash, $ 3.059 card –Diesel #2: $ 2.559 cash, $ 2.659 card This is definitely a low-budget gas station in not the nicest neighborhood in town, but if all you need is a quick, cheap fill-up before dropping your rental off, it will suffice. We visited mid-morning on a weekday and felt safe enough. I can see tourists and out-of-town travelers being turned off by the surroundings though. It’s not as pretty as the more expensive Chevron and ARCO(with ampm attached) stations nearby. If you need to use the restroom and buy stuff at the convenience store, you should go to one of those places instead. Unilocal’s 1-star«Eek! Methinks not.» might be what many folks think when driving by this gas station, but it’s more of a Unilocal 2-star«Meh. I’ve experienced better.» for me. Or more like, «Meh. I’ve experienced worse.»
