Tedford’s is my alternative to BC Lumber in Essex and Gloucester. I have now used Tedford’s for the past 3 years. It is an old-​fashioned lumber and hardware store with a massive supply of lumber. The service guys know what they are doing and while the desk service can be somewhat «grumpy» I am more than pleased with the fact that they efficient and know lumber and hardware. They also give back to the community and aren’t penny-​ante like BC Lumber.

Old school hardware store.
These guys have the hard to find items as well as the everyday fixer up stuff. I find the yard workers extremely helpful (also patience).
They carry the higher grade items you don’t find at HD and Lowes, even their trash cans are a higher grade you need to look close but you can see the difference.
The lumber counter personnel are a bit cranky, but just feels like the New England abrasiveness that I know and love.

I have been going to Tedford’s for years. The people there are knowledgeable, helpful and friendly. They know their stock and they know how to recommend the best tool or solution for the job at hand. I have rarely been disappointed with their suggestions or products.
