Devilicious Donuts

I was hoping for true gourmet doughnuts when I came here due to its proximity from home but unfortunately, the entire box we bought was really dismal. I’m not sure how long the doughnuts we bought had been sitting there but the doughnut part itself was all dry and very dense.
The strawberry filling in some tasted like commercial jam from a jar and the peanut butter tasted like Skippy’s. We took a bite each of every one we bought (we got 6 doughnuts) and then couldn’t eat the rest. We were surprised because were were there not late in the day, around mid-​morning.
I was really disappointed because I had expected gourmet doughnuts, but these were just regular doughnuts dressed up to look like gourmet doughnuts… nothing about the taste deemed them gourmet.
The only redeeming quality is that the staff smiles and are friendly.

I purchased a Groupon to Devilicious Donuts. Following the fine print, I called 18hrs in advance to reserve my donuts for the next day in the afternoon. The girl took my Groupon voucher info and cheerily said she’d see me tomorrow. I was quite excited.
Come the next day, I drive ½hr to the donut shop to find it CLOSED in the middle afternoon. Hoping maybe they were on break (though the store was dark and there was no sign the store had recently be inhabited by humans) I waited around calling the number I had used to make my reservations… Only to have it ring on endlessly.
To add insult to injury, I see that they had already marked my voucher as redeemed! I couldn’t come back to get donuts even if I wanted to!!! Jerks!
Luckily Groupon refunded my money, but alas there was no donuts consumed. Don’t waste your time with this store.

A good way to go out of business (even if you sell a good product) is to treat your customers like crap, which is the case with Devilicious Donuts.
My boss decided, based on my recommendation, to get a big bunch of donuts for a «staff appreciation day». The boss bought a groupon which specified that orders needed to be placed in advance. I was put in charge of the ordering and pickup since I live close to the shop. I called multiple times the day before we wanted them but each time I called, after many rings, only got a recording. The boss told me just to go in the next morning and try my luck.
The next morning I called a few times and got the recording again. I drove to the shop and entered to find the worker on her cell phone. Ah — more important to be talking to friends than answering the customer calls — that mystery is now explained. I attempted to order but was told (as we knew) that groupon orders had to be placed in advance. So I placed the order to be picked up the following morning at 7:30am. She took my name, cell phone number, pick-​up time, etc. and I was on my way.
The following morning I arrived at 7:20am to find the store closed despite the posted opening time to be 6:30am. I waited until 8am but they never opened (to the disappointment of numerous other customers, I might add). I went to work empty handed to a pissed-​off boss and upset co-​workers. The boss is in the process of getting a refund from groupon now.
Honestly, you can’t treat your customers with such blatant disregard. It’s shameful. Devilicious Donuts deserves to go out of business and, when they do, I’ll be dancing with glee in the parking lot in front of their empty storefront.

We came to try the donuts 2 times. Once the second week it was open and the second time about a month later to give another chance. Both times we came around 9:00am on a Sat morning.
It’s a very cute store, service was good, and there was a variety – I’m sure the popular ones were gone. Only a few are on display compared to a regular donut shop and they sit out in the open behind the glass. We’ve tried their regular donut, chocolate coverd donut, one covered with cereal, and one covered in sprinkles. End result, they didn’t taste fresh nor did feel special and they are fairly expensive. We figured they did not bake them there and probably shipped them from their other store. But thought they would at least taste fresh.

Very overpriced donuts, the quality and size does not make up for it. I see this donut shop every I come to Paradise to study and I’m very curious.
Blueberry: They really put on the cream cheese frosting on this. There was just too much. There was a a taste of blueberry to it. I’m used to blueberry donuts packing a punch of flavor so this was a little disappointing.
Nutella: I totally got robbed on this donut. Just a regular glazed donut with nutella frosting on top. For $ 2?! Really?!
Maple bar with bacon: This was actually good. I’m a sucker for bacon and maple bars. The donut itself was very small for a bar so that sucked. Bacon looked very charred and burnt but it wasn’t; super crispy bacon which I liked.
The girl who helped me was nice and helpful but I really think this place is super overpriced. $ 2 for a donut? It still baffles me. They have no business charging that kind of price. There wasn’t that many options for me to pick from unlike all the other reviews so I’m pretty bummed. At least they take cards.

Donuts are baked at the mission viejo location early each morning and transported to Irvine.
We got our nutella donut around 3 – 4 PM in the afternoon and didn’t eat it until 5:30 PM. The donuts aren’t placed in side a case like normal donut shops. Instead, they sit out in the open air. It’s possible that the donuts might have tasted better first thing in the morning, but the by the time we ate it, it tasted like an old donut.
The donuts also look like they’re hand made because they look a little uglier and non-uniform.which is totally fine!!! I love hand made food!

Pretty good!
Walked in on Saturday at about 10:30am, decent amount of donuts to choose from. At least 10 different flavors, from an old-​fashioned donut, all the way to coconut cream.
I had a s’mores donut, and the man had a pumpkin donut. S’Mores was really good, loved the chocolate icing, and the dusting of graham cracker crumbs. A few marshmallows in the middle was a great addition. The donut was light and fluffy.
The pumpkin donut smelled fantastic, and the man really enjoyed it! Said it had a great pumpkin/​spice taste.
Yeah, kinda expensive for a donut, but it’s cool to try a new donut once in awhile.

My cousin and I have had our eyes on this place for the longest time! I was so excited when it finally opened! I knew I had to pick some up for us! :D

This was so tasty! My cousin and I were so excited. We just wish that there was more bacon!

One of the other customers recommended that I tried this one! Good call Bro! My cousin, his girlfriend and I all agree that this oreo donut was really good!

I’m not usually a fan of blueberry, but this one is really working for me!
— 1 APPLE FRITTER ($ 2.75)
This apple fritter is probably one of the best one I’ve tried! My cousin’s girlfriend said she doesn’t even like apple fritters, but she totally wanted more! We were definitely impressed!
The donuts are all really pretty! I would recommend getting them for office meetings or a high end client!
I would really like to defend the comment people are making that this is overpriced. I really don’t think so! I completely agree that these are gourmet donuts and you basically get what you’re paying for! They’re delicious! You guys knew you pay way more for a stupid cupcake and never complain about it! Same concept!
The owner seems like a really nice guy: D I came after work and he said I shouldn’t have to pay full price for non-​fresh donuts! I feel like that is very good business ethics! He asked me to try them in the morning one day when it is tastier. Unfortunately, they don’t open early enough for me to swing by before work… But if I’m ever in Irvine on a weekend, I will definitely try to swing by!

TIP: it’s only $ 20 for a bakers dozen… and you get a free large coffee w the purchase of a bakers dozen… what a good deal!

My half dozen: Raspberry Pistachio, Mud Pie, Red Velvet, Butterfinger, Blue Berry, and Apple Caramel.
My first attempt to locate this place failed miserably because it was at night and we couldn’t find it, so I ended up driving around the strip mall and no trace. I was like WTF?! I see the dude at the corner of the Jeffrey and Irvine Center Dr. with a shaker board everyday to work. Anyways, thanks to our friend Tata C. she said it is next to a tea place. Second attempt it was found.
Keep note: the shop store sign is NOT ON during the waning evening.
As I looked inside from the front entrance, by the looks of it, I thought they had 10 donuts on sale?! but there were more at the back wall. The cashier was generous to give us a discount due to not having much variety to offer. Well, that’s cool of her to do that after being blind looking for this place and having to only take each flavor of donuts they had available before they were closing.
My favorites:
Mud Pie: cookie crumbs and chocolate stripes on top as well as the chocolate fillings inside made it a good combination and my teeth sinking to the core of mud.
Butterfinger: chocolate and butterfinger pieces on top? I can dig this donut bar!
The Odd ones:
Raspberry Pistachio: it didn’t taste like it sound at all. The Raspberry frosted had no flavor and the pistachio nuts wasn’t sprinkled much.
Apple Caramel: was generic! a small amount of apple topping and a small touch of caramel wasn’t enough.
The Okays:
Blue Berry donut with the whip in the middle wasn’t necessary and the Red Velvet had the cream cheese frosting on top was good but both donuts were dry.
Despite this place having a mediocre start from lower Unilocal ratings. I find some of their donuts not too bad, it has some gourmet that’s a plus and a few favorites here and there. If they can improve on there shortcomings like turning on their street lights and if they can go the extra mile turning average quality donuts to go a notch up, the price of admission would be worth it, but hey to me its still a good alternative than an average Joe Donuts.

Good donuts! I am not a huge donut fan, but I do like these neat gourmet ones that mix interesting flavors. I love voodoo and sidecar donuts, so I have been eagerly waiting for these guys to open (plus a few additional weeks so they can work out the kinks).
I rolled in around 8:30 and they had the full selection on display. They had raspberry filled, plain, apple pie, apple fritter, maple bacon, smores, pb&j, Nutella, cinnamon toast, and custard filled.
Out of these I grabbed a maple bacon and custard filled. Quite good, actually! I wasn’t sure what to expect after reading other reviews, but I was pleasantly surprised. Both donuts were light and there was no greasy aftertaste. Here’s the breakdown:
Maple Bacon– big donut bar with a nice, not-​too-​sweet maple glaze on top. The bacon was a thick slice that was cooked to a perfect crispiness. I thought this was a perfect amount of bacon, because I don’t want the donut flavor to be covered by too much piginess. The end of the bacon was fat, but the way it had been prepared made it more like crackling, which made it melt in your mouth with the maple glaze. Lush.
Custard filled — I love custard, so I was looking forward to this. And… it’s okay. It is a bar filled with a light custard, covered with a milk chocolate glaze and sugar crystals. The donut itself is good and the chocolate was nice… not too much or too sweet. But the custard was bland. It had a hint of custardy, vanilla goodness, but it was more pudding than custard. Custard should be a rich, luscious, eggy vanilla symphony in your mouth not a vanilla pudding cup. Ah well.
The décor of the place is like people have said, not complete feeling. It almost feels like they are just here temporarily. They don’t have a register yet, rather you pay on a pad with the card swipe attachment.
The people are friendly and helpful.
I don’t think I’ll be back again soon, but if you need a quick gourmet donut fix, then this place is worth the stop.

Solid place for donuts. I like the gourmet twist to the donuts. Not only are they pretty but they are great tasting and not too oily. The outside of the donut has a hide little crisp to it and the inside is perfectly soft.
The service is pretty solid here too. They are quick to help the costumers. I will be back soon to try out some other flavors.

Scam. Wanted to try them with a groupon. First they wanted a reservation. Seriously? Are they a spa? Maybe they have a box ready for you? No you still pick. Do I need a reservation to come any time?
They also first had me drive to mission Viejo 25 miles! And I wasn’t on the list lol. Then had to drive to Irvine. Disgusting behavior. You think I’ll come back again? Nope, the only extra effort I’m making is calling the bank and charging back the groupon. They literally meant devil. They ruined my Sunday family time morning and exasperated my post Halloween hangover.

What do you call weak-​flavored and over-​priced donuts with gimmicky toppings as the one attempt to convince you to buy?
Devilicious Donuts.
I’m a huge fan of a classic donut, but also places like Sidecar, voodoo, or psycho Donut where they push the boundaries of unique twists and flavors. So naturally I had a hope that we had landed our own special place like that in Irvine… but sadly, I was very wrong.
All I was left with was the impression that whoever owns this place saw a trend and is trying to make a quick buck off of it without caring about the quality of their product.
Here’s our first and what will definitely be our only experience:
Smores Donut ($ 3.00) — dry dry dry. All you really get is graham cracker crumbs on dough. Oh and a guess they put 4 mini marshmallows on top (which stuck to the top of our box when we opened it)
M&M Donut ($ 2.00) — suckered our daughter in instantly w/​the M&Ms. Think of this as a sprinkled donut but with M&Ms and a lot less frosting. Our 4 year old didn’t finish it, cause it once she passed the M&Ms there was really no point. To top it off, this is double the price of the half sprinkled donut which was bigger and had more frosting.
Pumpkin Pie Donut ($ 3.00) — the worst donut we’ve ever had (my wife and I both tries a bite of this). Whatever very very light pumpkin was on it seemed unsweetened and bitter. Threw this away immediately.
Basic half glaze/​half sprinkles ($ 1.00) — the only edible donut of the bunch. Simple and common. We all ended up splitting this one which was intended for our 2 year old (poor kid haha).

Story:
I’ve been waiting for this place to open. A quite of a delay but at last it’s here!
Ambiance:
Came here on a Friday evening and two weeks into opening and it’s currently under renovation in terms of design and identity. It’s a small grab and go place and a bench on outside. Music was a bit too loud.
Food:
Blueberry Donut– It was quite decorative and devilisciously delicious. From the sweet dough, mildly crisp icing, flavorful blueberries, and topped topped off with whipped cream in the middle.
Customer Service:
My order was quick and the waitress seemed like she knew what she was talking about.
Overall:
I give this place a promising 3 stars. I’ll be sure to come back to see how it develops. The price was a bit too high for me so I’ll stick to my usual donut places. It is good to know a creative donut shop closer to the Irvine area, if I’m ever craving a food adventure then I know where to swing by.
Advice:
–If you’re in the Irvine area and you’re looking for donuts with a creative twist, then I recommend this place. It’s no Voodoo/​Psycho Donuts, but it gets the job done.
–Beware of the price and be sure to buy in bulk.

The selection, when I came was pretty good! They had more than a dozen different creations that were very tasty looking.
Having used to live in Portland and been to Voodoo donuts every time someone came to visit, I can tell you this, Voodoo had way more selection but the donuts and experience here was better. I suppose if you enjoy the element of dirty hobos hitting you up for money while you wait in a long line at Voodoo is enticing to you, then this place won’t cut it for you.
We got the Maple bacon, the Chocolate bacon, the apple pie, the Nutella spread, and the devil one. My favourite was the chocolate bacon and my husband’s was the apple pie. Even two days after purchase thw donuts were not super stale. This may be due to the fact that the glazed ones were encased is sooo much sugar… a little too sweet for me. The dough itself could have been lighter, if you ask my.
I would come back, but not too often, in fear of becoming a giant diabetic monster!

I was super excited to try this place as I love donuts (well I love all sweets, but thats beside the point). I read about it online and realized they opened this past weekend so I knew I had to try it. Came in and was a bit disappointed with the selection. They probably had 8 different donuts only and I ordered four different kinds
1. Nutella with sprinkles: A bit disappointing. The donut itself was mediocre, but the main gripe I have is that there was just TOO MANY sprinkles on it. Please do not cover up the deliciousness that is nutella with all them spinkles (or use more nutella).
2. Cinnamon Toast: Tasted like a regular cinnamon sugar donut.
3. Maple Bacon: Probably the best as the dough was light and fluffy.
4. Oreo: tasted pretty good, like an oreo.
The HUGE problems the store had which left me not really wanting to go back…
1. Please provide better training for your staff! I know it was the girl’s first day (I heard her say that) but your staff needs to know the menu. When I asked «what jelly is inside the jelly filled one?» the response cannot be «Im not sure». If that is the response, then the employee should find out by cutting one open! When asked «What makes this donut cinnamon toast» the response cannot be «umm i think theres a glaze and then a lot of cinnamon on it»…I mean damn, I found out more information about the donuts when I got back to my office and looked on your website!
2. If you are a new establishment, wouldn’t you want to offer a majority of the donuts that were on the menu of your website? This would entice customers to try more donuts, and hopefully make us want to go back. Offering only about 8 different donuts (and I basically tried half) is really not enough options for a donut shop. I went at around 130pm. I understand that you may be sold out of stuff after the morning rush, but fresh ones should have been made by the afternoon.
4 donuts for $ 10 is okay if they were AMAZING, which these werent. With the lack of options coupled with the staff’s lack of knowledge, I cant see myself going back.

I’ve tried them and frankly just regular donuts that I found to be overly sweet and way more expensive at 2.50 each and up.
I do not mind paying for higher quality but to me the donuts here are just average quality in a somewhat different presentation

Went to try the donuts yesterday — who doesn’t want a delicious donut and hot coffee in a sunny Sunday morning?! Got there at 10:45 a.m. expecting to try their ‘famous’ maple bacon donut. Nothing. Nada. Zilch. Gal said it wouldn’t be ready till noon. Say wha? Settled for the blueberry, apple pie, jelly filled heart and kids wanted to try the ‘hello kitty’ ones. All were overly sweet with way too much frosting! Couldn’t get past the surgery decorations and glaze on the blueberry one. Kids didn’t eat their donut after one bite — way too much decorative frosting and couldn’t taste the actual donut.
Donuts were meehhh. Frosting/​decorations cute. Not worth the price! Probably won’t be back :(

Went at 6:00 PM tonight (Sunday). Got 4 donuts, all were surprisingly fresh!
Mocha Chocolate: OUTSTANDING
Cinnamon Toast: Excellent, topping tasted like a churro
M&M Overload: good but a little sweet with frosting as well
S’mores: Not bad, my least favorite if the bunch.
They were sold out of a lot of flavors so will have to return much earlier next time.

Enough with the multiple delays, wishy-​washy opening dates, and frustrated 1-​star reviews — they’re actually open now. Located next to Koko’s Café, it is a tiny spot — you’ll have to shimmy your way back and forth through the elbow counter just to see the other donuts and to pay at the iPad register. You might butt rub (or crotch rub) other patrons in the process, but hey, all in the name of gourmet donuts, right?
I had the maple bacon bar ($ 2.95), and I thought it was fine. It’s pretty much just a regular maple bar with bacon on top — so not terribly original (how about some bacon drizzle on the top, or some bacon cream injected inside the donut, etc). Since it was early in the morning and presumedly baked fresh, the maple bar was nice and airy inside. Big pieces of bacon adorned the top of the bar, and they were crispy — not the diced up, rubbery bacon bits that you see on most other bacon donuts.

For a gourmet donut place that just opened up, I thought it was a rather odd and somber atmosphere inside. You would think they would smile and greet customers, but all of the workers seemed deadly (devilicious?) serious. But hey I get it, they just opened and there’s lots to do. But never underestimate the power of good, friendly customer service.

The donuts go fast in the morning, so that’s a good thing. It means the donuts are fresh and not sitting around getting stale. There’s a coupon for $ 3 off a dozen donuts in the local mailer that was sent about a month or two ago.
